Lol. They won though. Hey. Winning isn't always pretty. okay. It's almost never pretty.

I do worry about our competitiveness when we lose Buffon. He's excellent.

It's not pretty doing it the italian way lol

I actually thought about that during the game. Do you have a good young goalie prospect? Noone came to my mind

Marchetti is my guess since he's done it they most for the Azzurri. He's the incumbent backup. I'm not sure about our youth. It's really untested. I'm very concerned in that regard. There are a few names but it's like replacing Ray Lewis in his prime or Ed Reed with Jameel McClain or Bernard Pollard. You know: solid but not spectacular.

ohh yeah Marchetti would be next in line, but this young one is going to open some more eyes soon - Mattia Perin

ps: Buffon seems to me very slow lately; don't get me wrong, he's still got it, but as you say he's a Ray Lewis at this moment in time - his knowledge of the game is what makes him so good still...

I should know a little bit about this thing, was a goalie in my youth days lol - the guy who was the main goalie at my age group at the club, back in those times, grew up to be goalie for Romania - Bogdan Lobont, his name is

That's pretty cool. I like Mattia. I just am not sure if he can replace Buffon but I feel better about him. He's got youth.

It just sucks we'll be losing Buffon soon. I'm sure the next world cup is his last.

I'm guessing at least 6-0, with Mata bagging one.

Nigeria/Uruguay could be very interesting.

Ugly...

Tahiti wouldn't have stood a chance against Spain's U-21 squad.

Allright.

Whast the differences in penalty kicks.  Sometimes you get the one on one kick in the box and sometimes it set up at the spot of the foul?  Im sure it has something to do with the yellow card.  Also, dont get the offsides much, i never watched hockey and i hear its the same in a sense

If a player is fouled in the box it's a penalty shot if he is fouled outside the box it is a free kick

Offside is when the player to whom the ball would eventually go is closer to the opposing goal than the second last player of the opposing team, at the moment when the ball is leaving the passers foot. Got that? (It's kind of hard to explain as English is not my mother tongue)

At the time I pass the ball to my teammate (you)

  • There has to be someone from the other team BETWEEN you and the goalkeeper
  • In other words, when the ball leaves your teammates foot, the CLOSEST person to the goalkeeper (north/south wise) should be his own teammate
  • This is based on where you are ONLY ONLY ONLY when the ball leaves my foot
  • Should you be closer to the goalkeeper than the defender/his own teammate when the ball leaves my foot, you are offsides

It is difficult to explain in any language despite of mother tongue!

Think almost opposite of American football. If a WR gets behind a safety BEFORE the QB throws the ball, that's perfectly fine. In soccer, that would be offsides.

Now think back to the Denver game, I think Joe Flacco threw the ball before Torrey was open on Champ Bailey and that would be the perfect pass in soccer. All about timing and speed

There has to be a defender between u and the goal when the person passing the ball touches the ball with his foot. It can only be one leg of a defender. Most of the tricky ones are like millimetres in it.

A penalty and a free kick are the same in the sense a player has broke a rule ie committed a foul or handball normally. A free kick happens outside the two boxes at each goal. A penalty is the same except ot happens inside the boxes.

A yellow card is given for a bad tackle normally or a cynical one like some faster player is running past u and u pull his shirt. A red card will happen for dangerous tackles potential leg breakers. Normally sliding in on the ball carrier with two feet and studs up. Or jumping lunging tackles and not sliding along the grass. The other way a red card would hapoen is committing a foul in a clear goal scoring opportunity like the player being through on goal and the last defender clips his heels and he falls. Thats a foul and goal scoring chance so it will be a red card and a free kick if outside the box on that spot or a penalty if inside the box from the penalty spot down the middle of the goal.

Free kicks are spot fouls like defensive pass interference. A red card is an ejection from the game. Two yellow cards equal one red and an ejection

You can also get carded for diving to the ground in an attempt to deceive the referee into thinking the opposing player committed a foul.

It's like how NBA players flop except in soccer, it is a punishable offense

lol. I remember watching the Azzurri flop around all day. Even I hated that. I felt like they should be on Broadway with some of their acting.
