Can't have a topic on Mase without linking video of his performance against the Cowboys. Warrior.

One of the most impressive single game performances in the history of the NFL, all things considered!

King of the comeback route. Honestly he was tough as nails. Even playing hurt with one arm in the playoffs and still getting a TD. My most memorable moment is when he got hit sticked against Detroit into another player, stayed on his feet and took one home for the score. He's the epitome of a Baltimore Raven
Love that TD!

Absolute hero the dude is. He's the anti-bounty player - it doesn't matter how hurt or how hard you hit him; HE WILL PLAY!

Why is this even an issue that needs to be talked about though honestly?

Is there any reason why Mason should not be allowed to retire a Raven?
This.

Should happen A-S-A-P!

Harbs said to him after the Texans regular season game that he'll always be a Raven. I don't think there's any chance that they wouldn't let him honorary re-join the Ravens just to retire.

Favorite play has to be his TD against the Cowboys in the final game at the old Cowboys stadium. He just smashed his shoulder that game and only ran with one arm, just amazing

Always loved Mason. He was Flacco's go to guy, his first 3 years would not have been pretty without him. Plus, Mase was great before that. One of those truly underrated players who was willing to do whatever it took.

I agree with all the comments here about Mason getting a one-day retirement deal. I want to see Mason coach up Streeter as well. I remember him helping out Torrey last year during the player OTAs and I think that was a big reason for Torrey's production this year. I think he could really help Streeter, and I think he is an upgrade on our current WR coach (Hortiz or something?).
As much as I would love that, I think he has his heart set on broadcasting.

Which is good as I enjoyed his radio show (having to download it as I'm not stateside) - it was always entertaining despite me always getting it late.

It would have been better if we would have kept Mason to work with the young receivers, then let him retire a Raven at the end of the season. That way, we never would have suffered through the Evans' drop and would have had another draft pick in the 4th round.

Oh, I agree. I think he goes into broadcasting. It will be nice to have him there, maybe we will finally get someone on our side haha. I would be happy if he just gave our WRs some pointers, even for a day. Maybe Streeter can go to Fitz's WR camp with Floyd or something. I think he should take every chance he can get to improve his game.

The Derrick Mason moment that sticks out most in my mind is the 2008 game in Dallas. When he recovered the leron mclain fumble that was somehow tossed in the air by ken hamlin. It seemed like he was down on the field in pain every time he got hit, but he kept getting back up, and making plays. Mason carried the offense until 09 when Flacco/Rice came into their own. Sometimes we didn't agree with some things he said, but his motivation was pure. He wasnt out for big numbers to get an even bigger contract. He wanted to win, plain and simple.

Most of us here as true Ravens fans definitely wants Mason to retire as a Raven for sure.

I hope Bisciotti, Ozzie, and FO can find someway that can maneuver Mason on the 53 man roster for a day, so we can tribute him on the opening game and retire him as a raven. That would be awesome......

Mase was the man, easily one of the, if not THE, most under rated WR in his era. If it wasnt for him our offense would have been the worst in the league. Hes the ray lewis of offense in my opinion

Yes Mason should be allowed to reitire as A Raven. He did the Raven's and Baltimore proud. I was sad to see him go.

I think Mason is a wideout that most of the ravens wideout should be inspired to atleast be like on the field. Mason bought leadership, he worked hard on the field, he showed passion, he was classy, and work harder to get open which something we didnt see offer from our wideouts today

U think he will make it on the Ring of Honor?
He does hold a lot of Ravens records. I would accept that at the bank, he deserves it.

I was thinking the same thing. Get him that one day contract at the right time....bring him into The Bank and let the fans give him a proper good-bye.

While I understood letting Mason go, I hated it to the core. It felt wrong after everything he'd done during the lock-out for this team. I get the business side of it....but sometimes, things are just wrong and letting Mason go was one of those things. And yes, we SHOULD have swallowed our pride and asked the man back for our playoff run. We'll never know for sure....but Mason was one of Joe's favorite targets and I guarantee you he would have held onto that ball.

While he seems to have his heart set on broadcasting there is no harm in putting a bug in the man's ear about a WR Coaching job. The man was the king of smart route running. He could teach our youngsters a lot.

Mason has had his own share of drops
And it was evans injury that opened up the starter position for torrey so mason playing doesn't mean torrey plays and that we have the same season

he had his own share of drops but not the type of drops where if he held on to the ball the ravens would had been in the super bowl or atleast won another playoff game. You probably right about the fact if Mason was still on the team last year Torrey Smith probably never would had got his chance to start but its probably still a chance he would had still started while Mason just making key catches as the number three wideout.

he's had game winning drops that's the bottom line.
he's also had drops against N.E..
Simply put let's stop acting like Mason wouldn't have dropped a key pass himself.

I still think he's drop is alot different from a t.j houshmanzadeh drop in the playoffs. Im not sayng Mason wouldnt have dropped a key pass himself because that can happen with any wideout but it still remains that Mason was the only one that was reliable out of all the veteran wideouts(not including boldin).

I dont remember Mason ever dropping a pass against New England but i thought for sure that was Mark Clayton .

Bring him in as a coach, he can just do the off-season if he wants

Some tutoring and some 'ol vet moves from Mason would help Streeter and others immensely

U know its May when mason is gettin called out for drops.. Smh
If he was able to stick on a roster last yr I'd say the same
His last yr in baltimore it was his temper, tantruns that annoyed.
Saying ”it's may” is a bs way of saying you don't know, anyone enough to know their grips during each game. But its,ok next yr I'll pm all my in game thoughts to you...
