Derrick Mason said he wants to retire a raven, even though he played the majority of his career in Tennessee. Think Ray Ray has something to do with this?

I'd love Mase to retire a Raven. I thought for sure he'd want to retire a Titan but I always had my hopes.

Can't deny what he has done for our team since coming here. Glad to see he wants to retire a Raven.

King of the comeback route. Honestly he was tough as nails. Even playing hurt with one arm in the playoffs and still getting a TD. My most memorable moment is when he got hit sticked against Detroit into another player, stayed on his feet and took one home for the score. He's the epitome of a Baltimore Raven

I think we should honor his request. The problem is finding a way to get him on the roster, even if it's just for one game.

He just wants a day contract. He doesn't want to actually play in a game.

As rmw10 pointed out, players can sign ceremonial contracts to retire with a chosen team. For instance, Jerry Rice signed such a contract with the 49ers several years ago after he was cut by the Broncos in the preseason.

Yep, which kinda is interesting and even though it is great he wants to retire a Raven, I'm surprised it's not with the Titans.

I believe Mason said he felt more of a connection to the city of Baltimore, especially with the community service he did while he was on the team. Also, not to knock Titans fans, but I believe we've continued to show him more love in retirement than they have -- at least that's the indication I'm getting on his Twitter feed.

I didn't know of this. That's cool then.

This is great, Derrick Mason has always been one of my favorite players for reasons that go beyond the extraordinary things he did on the football field.

Won't he go into the HOF as a Titan since he played for them longer than he did us?

I believe the players can choose which team they wish to represent. However he has to be selected to be in the HOF first. No easy task.

It makes me glad he wants to retire a Raven despite having started his career and played more games with the Titans. This just shows how good our Ravens organization, fan base and our locker room is!

This also lets talented under achieving free agents such as Jacoby Jones and others want to come to Baltimore over other teams!

Derrick Mason is one of those players that are pure embodyment of what Ravens are. I love Mason more than just a fanboy for the Ravens.

Derrick Mason is a true warrior, who will sacrifice everything for the team.

It's unfortunate that we couldn't get him a ring, however I think he will never regret joining and playing for the Ravens.

This highlight shows everything about Mason.

Why is this even an issue that needs to be talked about though honestly?

Is there any reason why Mason should not be allowed to retire a Raven?

I hated on Mason a little after we let him go, but he was a warrior. Looking back, he personified what it meant to be a Raven. Toughness, high character, and maximum effort. You really don't find many players that can combine all three of those attributes, but he's one of them. He's a great role model for players and people. Great player, great person.

I'm not surprised at all. None of the coaching staff and most likely a majority of the players he knew are no longer there. I would also expect that a large portion of their younger fan base has no idea who he is other than a former Ravens WR. 7 years is a long time to be away from a franchise.

Can't have a topic on Mase without linking video of his performance against the Cowboys. Warrior.

You beat me to it. That game was the epitome of his toughness. The one play that's always stood out to me about Mason was the TD catch. You can clearly see how limited he was, and yet he still found a way to make it happen. I'm elated that he'll be retiring as a member of our family.
