Rookie Impression

21 posts in this topic

With the first day of Rookie Minicamp in the books, let's start discussing what impression our rookies have given off.

- Courtney Upshaw is already being used in multiple position. I have a good feeling that we found our next Adalius Thomas.

- Kelechi Osemele is physically gifted and I think he might make sure forget about Ben Grubbs sooner than later.

- Asa Jackson is playing with swag and confident that he can cover any player on the field. I think that type of attitude will add some heat to our CB incumbents that they better play with mental toughness and some swag.

- Tommy Streeter looks like a beast out there with his size. I think he has improved his hands. That 6th round investment is looking better than expected.

- Justin Tucker maybe could push Cundiff to the limit by taking the nothing to lose attitude. Kicking 55 yarders is a good way to impress since Cundiff was atrocious from long range.

[/quote]Streeter size was never in question in college, route running can be improved on with coaching, but the hands thing scares me because thats has always been a either you have it or you dont type of skill set... It all boils down too would you feel comfortable going to him on that key third down, or when the game is on the line?

Upshaw is swinging some branch limbs from his shoulders.

More like tree stumps.

I didn't pay attention to his arms until he mentioned about it; they are big and long. It's just amazing, and it looks like he can slap Brady's ball from 2 feet away..lol..

UPSHAW IS HUGE.

Literally every single time I saw him, I was trying to think of the name of that defensive tackle we picked up in the seventh, because I was POSITIVE that guy had to be in the trenches somehow. Wow. I am totally blown away.

Honestly such problems can be said about the veteran wideout Jacoby Jones that was recently signed by the ravens and he's a five year vet. I think Streeter could turn out to be a surprise and He's hands can get better with coaching as well.

Once again I think we did an excellent job in the draft. Getting Upshaw in the second was clutch. He's going to be a monster. I love the fact that Tucker made that long FG because it does put the pressure on Cundiff to get his act together. I'm excited to see how all of these rookies develop through camp to the pre season.

Upshaw did look like a monster. Boys got some Joey Porter muscles lol. He's not exactly a pretty guy either. He and Sizzle together will be Ugly Inc.

Sounds like we could have a good amount of rookies contributing this year if they keep it up and do this in training camp.

HaHa! Yea he caught a few of the branches I missed falling out of that ugly tree. And lets not forget Cody. King Ugly is going to be a tough competition at camp this year.

I feel good about our rookies this year. I feel Upshaw will be a major player in the DROY race, I feel Streeter can be a huge red zone target for Joe and if Tucker continues Kicking well, he may just be the guy we have been looking for, long term wise to replace Stover. KO will fit in great at LG and can start right away, Asa looks like he could contribute on defense and on special teams.

Pierce will win that second spot as back up RB, the guy has power to convert those 3rd downs with short yardage just like Ricky Williams.

I also like Streeter a lot, the man is quick but needs to work on his hands just a little more but we did well in this years draft

Hell yeah Ozzie Newsome!

- I like Upshaw a lot. He has a very similar build to Lamarr Woodley in the fact that they both are thicker OLBs but Upshaw seems much more toned at this point than Woodley was. He needs to lose about 10-12 pounds though.
- Osemele could be great! He looks like a typical Raven's offensive lineman in there. Between the long term contract of Yanda and the drafting of Gino and Osemele our interior offensive line looks filthy. Hopefully Oher can make strides this year and all we will need is a franchise left tacke (possibly Reid).
- I like the build of a lot of the undrafted free agents. Eltoro Freeman looks jacked but is only 6-1 228. If he can get to about 240 or so he could very well be this year's Josh Bynes. I am biased of course, but Alfred McCullough looks great physique wise and while it is a long shot, he has a chance to be a practice squad player.
