Ten Most Important Players In 2012 (Espn Insider)

11 posts in this topic

I know we're not allowed to post full insider articles (or request anyone to do so), so can anyone with Insider give a synopsis of what they say about Torrey Smith in this article:

http://insider.espn....layers-nfl-2012

This is the image that greeted me when I loaded the ESPN homepage, so I can only assume that Torrey is mentioned in the article.

You can make an argument that the Ravens will need a big contribution from whoever replaces Terrell Suggs, but the defense in Baltimore is not the problem. Between Sergio Kindle, Courtney Upshaw and Paul Kruger, the Ravens will find an answer on that side of the ball. The offense, however, needs a deep threat in the passing game, and Smith is the guy best suited to fill that role.[/background]

[background=transparent]
For years the air attack has not been as reliable as the other facets of the team, and if Smith can be consistent catching the ball and making plays downfield, it will be the last piece in an otherwise well-rounded contender. The Ravens seem to believe in him since they didn't address their receiving corps in draft. They did sign Jacoby Jones in free agency, however, and he could add another speed element.[/background]
[background=transparent]
--- Also, there is a poll on sportsnation that asks who is the better QB. Flacco or Romo? Joe is currently winning 51% to 49% .....Go show Joe some love lol[/background]
Thanks for the pieces of the article. Glad Torrey's potential is being recognized.

And NFL.com is running the same pool. Flacco is winning there too 56/44.

Glad to hear Smith is getting some credit. I think he is our future #1. I think he has all the tools in the world. He is a hard worker with great speed who needs to work on his routes and catching. With his drive, I don't see those two issues being issues for long.

Here is the list, I hope I didn't break any rules by posting it, so discuised it a bit...

1. Someone named Sanchez from New York
2. A RB very new and young RB from the Bucs named Doug
3. The other DT for the Lions, he came from Auburn last year and had fallen down a lot of boards in the draft.
4. The first QB for the Texans to get injured last year.
5. The WR on our team with long dreads and good speed.
6. The OT from the Bills named Chris.
7. A young WR from Alabama that a team traded up to get in the draft last year.
8. A RB that ran for 2 TD's against us last year, I think he is from SD
9. Two young DL's from the Squeelers named Zig Zag and Cam
10. The entire squad of tall fast people that can catch a football. (But also a group that includes a guy that had an unlucky game in the NFC Conference game last year, so they might be from the bay area.)

You can paraphrase it or edit it with a lot of grammatical errors so no one knows.

Here's my interpretation simple and straight to the point.

1. Mark Sanchez
2. Doug Martin
3. Nick Fairley
4. Matt Schaub
5. Torrey Smith
6. Chris Hairston
7. Julio Jones
8. Darren Sproles
9. Ziggy Hood & Cameron Heyward
10. Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, Vernon Davis, A.J. Jenkins, Tedd Ginn Jr. and the scapegoat is Kyle Williams for dropping the ball twice.

Well Bill Polian wrote the article so there could be some confusion on number 5, but since Torrey Smith is on the front page, we assume he's #5, since that best fit the description.

Sounds like a good article and right on the spot with us.. If Torrey steps it up this year and "breaks out", we will be unstoppable on offense

Torrey Smith was my dark horse player last year and it panned out okay. This year it is Courtney Upshaw! We'll see how that pans out. My guess is double digit sacks and DROY!
