Yanda Restructures Contract

40 posts in this topic

Maybe this will be contagious and Ray Ray and Reed will do their part tweeking their contracts to try and bring in other veterans. I am thinking it would be great if some of our aging stars man-up and do their part since Yanda got the ball rolling with his restructuring effort.

If the Squeelers can do it (restructuring) we sure can.

I think the odds of RR being a Raven next season are 50 / 50, at best. And has nothing to do with a restructure.

A lot will depend on how good Bernard Pierce looks this year. I would like to have Rice here long-term, but not if he is going to cost 10M a year. I dont think any RB is really worth that.

No, that's a terrible idea. The Steelers are stuck with a whole bunch of old guys because they pushed their cap back. The Ravens don't need to do that. Ray and Ed's contracts will come off the books soon, allowing them to be able to restructure Yanda. Restructuring is a terrible idea if you don't need to.

I cant even tell you how happy I am we landed Pierce. He was my favorite RB after Richardson.

A lot of us miss the bruising ground game we had when Jamal was here ... Pierce can do that for us. I have no doubts that he'll show us exactly how replaceable Rice really is (and I agree, I'd love to have RR retire a Raven, but not if it means we're spending $10M+ to do so)

Agreed. The Steelers didn't restructure all of those contract because they wanted to, they did it because they HAD to. It was the only way that they were going to get below the Cap. The Ravens, OTOH, didn't need to restructure to get under the Cap, they only did this deal when they wanted to create a little room to get some signings done.

Restructuring is not a wise move as it creates present Cap space at the expense of future Cap space. The more you do that, as the Steelers have done over the last couple of years, the more you have to do it in the future (as, again, the Steelers have had to do).

Restructuring is useful at times, but is not a wise Salary Cap practice.

Players hold out All the time! It's business leverage, not a sign of animosity towards the organization. Revis, Chris Johnson, Desean Jackson, Frank Gore, are big names that have had hold outs in the last few years. How many of them eventually got a deal with their original team? ALL OF THEM. Ray is really tight with his teammates and coaches..and the organization loves Ray as a player/person. So I'm 99.9% sure this hold out will end the same way all of those did.

..And lol @ drafting Pierce being a reason to let ray walk. Also wouldn't restructuring contracts indicate we wanna clear cap room so we can give Rice/Flacco more money. Isn't that exactly what the Jets did to clear room to bump up revis' contract. just lol

You made it seem as though what I was saying was out of the realm of logic. Normally when teams draft guys esp at a position that they think a player might not resign at one can speculate that the ravens don't see how they can pay a running back and a qb top tier money that both are asking for. I can see them backing up the brinks truck for flacco and not keep rice. It happens all the time.

im talking about next year... i thought that was pretty clear

the way its playing out (not just this yanda deal) if the cap doesnt take a huge jump someone big will miss, and as i said, i think it will be RR and/or boldin, provided RR doesnt sign a deal we have reportedly offered him, and the rest of the WRs step up.

Dude we are both obviously talking about 2013 and beyond. Not this season. I wish ppl would actually read posts before replying

Chill out people. It's takes away about ~1.3 from us for the next 3 years. Not a big deal.

This isn't like the Steelers restructuring everybody and their momma.

or it could be "the beginning of a beautiful friendship"... with Ed (putting 2-3 more years on his contract and "re-structure" his cap for this year), maybe get Ray an extension of a year or two, ask Boldin if he wants to retire a Raven and make his cap more friendly to absorb... and signing Joe and Rice to long term deals will help greatly too
plenty of time 'till season starts (july for the francise tag), so we'll have to see what money moves where in the next months or so
I'm crossing my fingers. If all that went as you describe I'd label this offseason a success.
