Don't tell me this guy can't play like an Aaron Rodgers, or a Big Ben...

Don't tell me he's average or mediocre or hit the ceiling either...I knew from that play forward we were in for a ride with this guy. He's not perfect, but man, just wait. I don't even just think he can win a Superbowl, I think he can win multiple ones. And I think the best way for him to excel despite his limited receiving core and offensive coordinator, is to just do what he did in that clip: run!

Thoughts on Flacco becoming more mobile?

He was a beast at running it. I dont think we want him to unless he has to because we dont want to risk a injury.

I prefer my Quarterback to throw, but I would like to see him move if he needs to move. Preferably when he's about to get sacked. It would be nice to see him escape the pocket to throw to Smith sort of like Big Ben.

If our OL doesn't improve he may have no choice but to start making plays with his feet. I blame our OC for not taking advantage of Flacco's athleticism.

I think hes at his best when he's taking whats right in front of him. He hasnt done much of it the past 2 seasons and it showed. IN the AFCC Game, he took off numerous of times to pick up 10 cheap yards. It moves the chains and improves our chances. Wish it would happen more.

I wonder if this is something Caldwell will work on with Flacco, knowing when to take off and when to just throw it away. I'm sure it will be. I'm excited to see the improvements Joe will make with Caldwell coaching him.

Flacco's definitely mobile. But the fact that he's so tall makes it look a little awkward when he runs and gives people the perception that he's not very athletic or he's not very mobile.

Exactly! This season, though, he was on the run a lot more and was a lot better at it when you compare to his rookie season

Good block by Clayton in the end there.

Yeah, I think Joe is a lot better when he's just thinking and playing what's in fron of him. I think a lot of athletes are generally like this.

Sometimes, you don't want to get Kyle Boller'd and get overloaded with info the way it did with Cavs, Billick etc.

LOL, I love how the commentators were making excuses for Matty Ice. Joe beat him by a full second and almost nailed the deep throw that Ryan missed by a good 5 yards.

Yeah well that's not uncommon. I won't even bother to post the arm strength one, we all know how that goes down.

His mobility was on full display his rookie season. He went into a bit of a shell after that...until the AFC title game from this past year, when he was running all over the place.

I prefer my QBs to throw, but he definitely has what it takes to move around when necessary. I hope his play is more loose this coming season.

You still mad bro?? Look, I would not worry bout O-Line this year, what people need to look forward to regarding Flacco is
Developing Doss, Q, and Streeter
Finally Unleashing our new JJ
Torrey Breaking 1000
Boldin killing in the slot

We don't need suggs, but damn with him we are golden.

i've been sayin' this for a while. he would run more if it weren't for cam drilling it in his head to stay in the pocket or follow the play design. i'm trying to find a clip from his rookie year against pittsburgh IN pittsburgh. he made them look like fools. when you're a rookie, you're RAW, you play more instinctively. they gotta just let him play his game.

ok, i wish i could get an isolated clip, but this will have to do, it's a little after 2 minutes in

I blame Cam for this one. Not enough plays that are designed roll outs and bootlegs. I guarantee Cam has told him many times NOT to run and to keep looking for someone to get open.
That's carried over to the NFL.

Matt Ryan gets his nuts royally serviced by the media - despite being similar/slightly worse than Joe.

Yet Joe is the guy that gets made fun of, gets no respect, and gets mocked by idiots like Dave freaking Dameshek.

I think if Flacco wants to have a great year.

Just play this set all game until the game is out of reach,

----Smith---Boldin---O-line--Pitta----Doss-
------------------------Flacco-------------------
-------------------------Rice----------------------

Smith to blow the top of the defense and stretch the field. If the Defense put a one on one, I hope Flacco slings it out
Boldin in the slot because he is likely save time by not being jammed and should work the middle of the field
Pitta is the American Express Card, you can't go on the field without him
Doss was a WR that Flacco wanted because he can catch and can run after contact. He's our Mohammad Sanu, who is physical reliable catcher.
Rice is the trusty checkdown that will gain yards and keep the defense on check

Flacco with this personnel in a shotgun spread offense should do wonders.

Now after Flacco and the offense put up some big numbers, we just finish off the game with ground and pound to keep everyone rested.

----Smith---Dickson-O-line-----------Boldin-----
-------------------------Flacco-----------------------
-------------------------Leach-----------------------
-------------------------Pierce-----------------------

Going heavy I-formation with Dickson and Smith should make the defense to think twice to stack the box
Smith should take advantage with less coverage.
Dickson can really be used here as he can stretch the seam in a play action fake.
Boldin is the best blocking receiver on the team, which helps for outside runs.
Leach gets paid to punish and punish hard.
Pierce should be used more for time killing options so we can preserve Rice for a long season.
Here a play action bootleg can be devastating since, Dickson and Smith can release and run downfield in a hurry.

knock on Joe has always been consistency. He runs against the Pats D in 3 quarters after standing in pocket and getting destroyed by wilfork twice. Every QB needs to be mobile to a degree or have a hell of a fast release. Flacco holds on to the ball for a long time while he decides who he wants so he definitely needs to keep plays alive with his feet.

mostly due to wr lack of seperation. However, wr's arent always going to get seperation and be open, you have to throw to them before they are open and let them go get it

The only issue when Joe likes to run is that he fumbles a lot. He needs to hold onto the dang ball! He has tremendous size 6'6" and 245. Big Ben is 6'5" 241 so hes bigger than him. If he holds onto the ball and makes sure he doesn't get nailed in the head I think he can make some plays with his feet.

This isn't a Cam Cameron thread so I won't make it into one, but I just have to ask: Is that an end-around play for Derrick Mason?

Exactly, he needs to do this more. The no throw to Leach also comes to mind during that game as far as not taking whats in front of you. That series where we only got a FG was very disappointing and often overlooked in the loss. During that series, Joe also scrambled for a big first down, I thought we were going to win after he did that.

I honestly have never seen him fumble when running, but only when he gets hit in the pocket with no warning.

Flacco can move around the pocket and occasionally run for a first down. It's best when the receivers are covered deep leaving him an open lane to rush into. I'd rather to have him dump the ball off to Rice then take a chance of a season ending injury. As for the O line, hopefully we can hold them off until he makes the play or throws the ball away.

Joe's athleticism is pretty underrated. It's good that keeps his eyes down-field, but I've seen him stand in the pocket and ignore wide open running lanes at times. I'm hoping he uses his legs more next season like he did against the Pats in the play-offs.

I've seen that as well. Pure speculation on my part, but I'm guessing that Cam has something to do with that, because Flacco really looks like he knows when and when not to make a run for it.
