Very nice! I like this move a lot. I really like Pollard.

I hope I hear about a Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, and Ed Reed extension next. I hope this doesn't hurt our chances of getting Ed back next year if he wants to return.

Great news, Pollard is a leader on the defense and an extremely hard hitting safety who offers a lot of versatility for our defense. Reed, Webb, Jimmy, and Pollard are going to keep this secondary strong for a long time. This also might've cleared up some cap space for us, which might explain where the money comes from to sign Jones and McBean.

Excellent news. Pollard has always belonged on the Ravens. Perfect fit in our secondary as Ed can help compensate for Pollard's deficiencies in coverage.

I agree. I think Pollard did improve some in coverage as the season went on last year though. I'm sure Ed's mentoring had something to do with that and will continue.

Pollard fits very well as a roaming strong safety, who has a strong physical presence. Yeah, he's not a ballhawk, but he's a Bonecrusher that can force fumbles. He did have 13 PD last year, which means he can defend the pass. I believe the three year extension is probably going to save some cap space.

I feel the Texans miss Pollard because they were trying out a bunch of people at SS, but they were not giving out a physical presence like Pollard.

Along with the fact that our corner play has become a strength. Pollard can play to his strengths without having to worry about covering as much.

It's also good insurance for the future because we would have had only one safety on the roster that wouldn't be a free agent. Ed Reed, Pollard and Considine would have all been free agents after this season. Pollard gives us some insurance that we will have a starter still remaining.

Good stuff. I'm glad the revolving door at strong safety is jammed for at least a few years. This should help 2013 to be a cleaner offseason.

Everyone knows Troy Polamalu was a superior player when he was younger, but the stats show Pollard is a bargain with his last season's performance.

2011 Stats:

Troy Polamalu - 16 Games - 91 Tackles - 1 Sack - 2 Interceptions - 1 Defensive TD- 0 Forced Fumbles - 14 Pass Defended
Bernard Pollard - 16 Games - 75 Tackles - 2 Sacks - Interception - 0 Defensive TD - 3 Force Fumbles - 13 Pass Defended

2012 Cap Hit:
Troy Polamalu - $6.25 M
Bernard Pollard - $1.75 M

They had similar production, but we saved $5 Million dollars.

That's probably why we extended him. I know the Jets are probably upset right now.

Nice, Pollard brings the hammer over the middle like a true Raven. I liked Zibikowski but when he was making tackles he looked like he was being dragged behind a truck.

Yeah, It was a very good day for the Ravens. Sign a Return-man/WR depth, extend Pollard, and Sizzle's surgery went well.

Concerning Rice, I dont think he is going to get the deal he wants. I believe the Ravens offered him a fair deal but it probably isnt as much as he wants so unfortunately he might end up seeing the Tag again. As much as I love Rice, he isnt irreplacable.

[/quote]it says extension not restructure. To me that reads he is playing out the final year of the deal then another three years on top, so no cap saving. But then again I could be understanding it wrong. Extension to me means on top of the years he has left
