The Playbook Has Been Opened

23 posts in this topic

I think we can make the playoffs but to become a dominant offense we need a big play wide receiver. Giving us that go to big play guy is lacking and Williams can't get off coverage. If we have that our offense can be as dynamic as our defense. I LOVE what we're doing today though, its like watching a college game. The Wild Bird might pay big dividends.

All I can say is WOW. The gloves are off. Who knew Flacco would be one our best recievers. LOL. He is faster than I thought.

It's the Raiders hold the phones, but a fun game to watch. That Flacco catch was shocking. My biggest concern is the O-Line.

Definitely the biggest concern for most of us... I think we can go 8-8 or maybe 9-7 but I doubt that will be good enough to get in the playoffs. Who knows, this is just speculation, if flacco keeps getting better, we could challenge for a playoff spot.

I think we need to definitely snag a wr in FA this year, or by trade, as much as I hate TJ Housh, he may be someone to target. We also need to draft a CB because rolle has major injury problems the past few years, and C-mac is getting old also. I think its more realistic to think of next year then this year for the playoffs, however, I would like to be proved wrong on that ;)

I'm not really concerned whether or not they make the playoffs this year, I'm just enjoying watching this team grow. When the offence fully absorbs Cam's versatile playbook and the backup youngun's on defence gain some experience, I think we're lookin' at some pretty serious SB talk in Baltimore.

I'm with you. After the first two games, everybody on here was talking about playoffs and a 10-6 record minimum. Then we lost three in a row, and it was doom and gloom (a lot of fights on here), then we win two in a row again.

We still have a tough schedule coming up. At least we are beating the teams that we are suppose to be beat and competing in the ones we aren't. With one setback against the Colts.

As far as the playbook opening up. We still for the most part stuck with the run. We changed personnel which took the Raiders off guard. And lined up with Troy Smith. This is yet to be seen as a consistent facet of our game. It worked against Oakland and helped us win. But will the Giants, Eagles, Redskins and Texans prepare for it now. Probably so. Will they be able to stop it? Who knows.

By the way, I LOVE seeing Ngata in on Goal-line packages... If we are within 3 yards and Ngata is listed as an eligible receiver/blocker, it's pretty much a guaranteed 6. He is a MONSTER... Pro Bowl bound for sure.

Kinda like Warren Sapp back in his day with Tampa Bay. Sapp even caught a few TD's. Maybe we'll see one from Ngata.

if i remember correctly, many players on the team had said that this was "just the tip of the ice burg as far as offense and schemes" or something liek that, what that means is that Cameron has alot of trickery and chaos instore for opponents in the near and far future, though this sunday and the previous weeks into the season gave us a thrilling glimpse that we could expect.... it is exactly that..... only a glimpse, its like what Troy and everyone was saying about this offense after the game " the possibilities are endless for this team's potential ".

One thin that this does spell out for our opponents for the rest of the season and in the future, is that NOW they have to Truly preare for both offense and defense, what was once a Defensive dominant team has now seen its potential as far as the offensive threat is concerned, but like we saw yesterday, the Raiders (im willing to bet) never made a game plan for what Cameron was throwing at them (the Troy-Flacco connection and also having Troy run the football).... there are some things that noone can teach or go over enough to get anyone ready, its all fine and dandy but lets be honest with ourselves here, You cannot, i repeat... you CANNOT prepare enough, its one thing to talk about in the film room and go at it with your teammates but when your faced with that opposition going at it in real-time, its a whole nother ball game and so some things just seem out of place at times.

Also, with Cameron's creativity and creative thinking along with player interaction, you can surely that some changes in the play calling will take place and that could also mean that Cameron and the offense will create new, diverse plays and trickery. you want an example??? how about when we lined up inside the redzone, inside the 5 yard line and who was in???? none other than Defensive Tackle Ngata!, using his size and power to plow his way through, making his way for the McGahee TD...... now tell me.....what can you expect from Cameron next week??????????? you cant and thats the beauty of it and Cameron's talented mind of thinking..... great job.

This may have been the plan all along once Flacco was announced starter but Cam had to wait until Smith got healthy enough to help run the Wild Bird. I too think we may see Ngata with a TD and EVEN line him up at running back, on an unbalanced line with Gaither and Anderson on the left side and Lorenzo Neal as the lead blocker. Thats borderline unstoppable on goal line situations; that would be ridiculous.

What ever the game plan is next week I just hope Cameron gets Ray Rice the ball more. When he picked up that 1st down on 3rd and 20....I nearly broke my jaw I was smiling so hard.

That game had everything. Williams had a deep Td from Flacco, Ray rice picking up huge 1st downs, Flacco catching passes, Troy Smith running the option and throwing the ball, McGahee TD, Heap caught the ball, Ngata Blocking on offense, Flacco rushing TD, Stover made both field goals, No interceptions, ate up the clock, Defense had a Safety, Suggs had a sack, Pryce had a sack, I think Nagata had a sack, Stovers kickoff when the guy ran out at the 2, Koch's punts inside the 10 yard line and 5 yard line, Leonhard breaking off huge punt returns, O-line didn't give up any sacs.

That was the funnest football game I've watched since last years superbowl. Thank God for the Raiders :D

The suggs package is pure genius. I hope we see it again next game this time let Flacco run a reverse and throw a pass to Smith.

If we make it to the playoffs this year with a rookie qb & headcoach that WILL be MY superbowl, Nothing else would make me happier. Our record is already better than honestly I thought it would be. These past 2 wins have showed us what we are capable of in baltimore and that we growing into a better team each week.

The playoffs can be a real possibility this year. You know once Ray Lewis and the Ravens defense take the field for the 1st playoff game it's gonna be nothing but lights out. Ravens wreak havoc in the playoffs I dont think any team wants to find themselves playing the Ravens come December. I like our chances once in the playoffs.

If we can win 4 of the next 6 (Browns, Texans, Cinci, Eagles, Giants, Skins) Ravens we'll be 8-5. If the Steelers lose just 3 of the next 6 (redskins, colts, chargers, cowboys, patriots, cinci) they will be 8-5. And guess who they play after that? The Ravens at HOME! Which could wind up being the game that decides the division. How many times has it come down to the last Pitrsburgh game of the year to decide the Ravens season. If we won that game we would be 9-5 steelers 8-6 and we would finish the last 2 games at home. The Steelers have to finish 1 of their last 2 games AT Tennessee. Even if they won their last 2 and the Ravens only won 1 of their last 2...both end the season 10-6 and it comes down to a divisional tie breaker.

I like our odds.

Here's my ''Wildbird'' play; SNAP- Smith tosses Flacco the outside sweep to the left, then Smith leaks into the backfield to the right. Once Flacco sells a run left he throws a bullet back to Smith (*). Then Smith has his option.-- Flacco($)[Clayton on a slant, Williams cuts over Mason going deep, Mason cuts on a dig route and Flacco tries to sneak out deep. Heap could leak out over the middle depending on protection.

Yes, it's the Raiders we beat up on, but its still an NFL team with NFL players. I am tempering my expectations this year too, but a win in the NFL is a win, period. So before you undermine this win against the Raiders because we were "expected" to beat them because they are a "bad" team, remember the NFL is VERY unpredictable.

If we've learned anything from this season so far it should be that. Early in the season everyone said the NFC East was the best division in the league and the lowly Rams humbled two of those teams. The previously 1-15 Dolphins beat up on the superbowl favorite Chargers without heavily utilizing their only ace wildcat formation and shut down one of the best offenses with their defense. The Colts were expected to blow up the Bears in their season opener, and low and behold the Bears pound them. The 1-5 Seahawks were expected by many to roll over and let the 49ers beat them this week, but they came out swing offensively AND defensively. I could go on and on with the unpredictable nature of the NFL every year, not just this year. So what's to stop us from racking up some "unexpected" wins? Every coach knows you have to approach every game as a potential win and that's what we will continue doing.

I think this team is on a great track to make a playoff run right now, if this offense continues to grow, if the defense continues to assert its dominance, and most importantly, if our team continues to stick to together as just that: a TEAM.

The two major recurring problems I have noticed that have not been worked on are:

1) Our RBs fumblitis. Ray lost a fumble week 1 that was taken back to the house, Le'Ron lost one against the Colts, Willis has lost one now in 2 straight games. I know fumbles do happen and it is not always entirely the player's fault, but these 3 need to work on ball security just as much as Joe has (who seems to be doing much better the past 2 games).

2) PENALTIES. You all may think our o-line needs to step up, but they have been pretty solid as far as run AND pass blocking (sans the Colts game). But what really killed us was the penalties they inflicted yesterday, holding happens essentially on every play, its just a matter of whether you get caught or not. But false starts are inexcusable.

I think the stars are aligning and the football gods are smiling down on the Ravens. I look forward to an exciting remaining season. Flacco will only get better, and we all know what our D can do.

Hopefully! Im sure Flacco will have one or 2 more bad games. But we ALL know what he's capable of. I agree that he will ONLY GET BETTER. If we still have Suggs,Scott,Lewis & all of our offesnive weapons next year theres no LIMIT to what our team can do after they are used to cam-cam & harbs!
