Thoughts On Wr3

So it appears the competitions will be between Tandon Doss, David Reed, Laquan Williams and Tommy Streeter.

Your thoughts and projections on these players and who you think will win the job!

Personally I think Doss has the inside track based on Eric Decosta's comments yesterday about the competitions being between Reed and Doss. I guess the ravens plan to use Laquan more as a special teams player and a 4th WR and with Reed coming off a torn ACL I think Doss will win the job for week 1.

Doss will prolly get the job, but i dont see why not give streeter the edge. Put boldin in the slot, obviously torrey on the outsdie and streeter on the outside. Torrey can run pretty good routes and has speed, give him the difficult patterns, we know what boldin can do. Have streeter just do a go route and some slants. Even if the defense knows thats gonna happen they are gonna have to account for him, i think he could have an impact right away. You cant defend 4.4 speed with 6'5 height, and if you do...torrey or boldin will murder the secondary. i just think good things would happen

I think Doss will be able to put together a really nice season this year. He had a year to sit behind Boldin and learn the offense. The guy has nice size (6'2") and ran a 4.5 flat. I think when this kid is given the chance, this guy is gonna shine!

I think it will be a fluid position. Doss has a leg up right now as he is healthy and has had a year to learn the playbook and what his role in the offense will be. He has good size and great hands, but last year he lacked the strength to really battle with NFL DBs. I have to hope an offseason training regimen will help him a lot.

I think Streeter will probably be given some looks in the red zone and a pure deep threat.

Reed is coming off a serious injury and he has yet to prove himself in 2 years in the offense. Granted, he hasnt been given many chances but he has an uphill battle. He might get some looks as a slot receiver if he is healthy enough and comes out strong in the preseason.

Laquan is a very good ST player so he will most likely have a roster spot. He definitely has some speed and decent hands, so he might see some snaps on offense but I dont think he has as much experience as a WR as some of the others on our roster.

The WR depth chart should end up being Q<-Torrey<-Doss<-Laquan<-Reed<-Streeter

Laquan actually made catches last year, athletic catches. And He showed up in crunch time when we needed him last year. I don tthink Reed even has a catch yet, i'm sorry but he's just not going to be a receiving threat here in my eyes.

All signs seem to be pointing toward Doss. Of the guys battling for that spot, Doss probably needs the experience most. Doss is projected by many, including myself, to be Boldin's eventual successor, so I think he should get it. I think he will get it because of how he did last year during training camp. He possibly has the best hands out of the bunch, and he just seems the most ready out of them, as well. Plus, Joe picked him so the chemistry should be there.

LaQuan is still developing (that's how it seems, anyway) and will most likely see a lot of time on special teams. Streeter is also a bit of a project, as we all now, and I think he'll see the field but on a limited basis. Then there's Reed. He still has a lot of potential and even though though he's apparently, based on DeCosta's statements, the co-front runner for the spot, he still has an uphill battle, in my opinion. Especially, coming off that injury. He has competition for his special teams spot as well, and if he's outplayed there than I think that devalues him a bit. It's not like he has overwhelming support from fans either.

This is why I'm really looking forward to this competition because despite what I said, it's anyone's game. Let's not forget the undrafted players, you just never know who the next "diamond in the rough" will be.

I think this will be a revolving door. I see Doss getting the majority of the snaps, but I believe Streeter will see snaps going deep and in the red zone. I see LaQuan getting some snaps similar to Streeter and on special teams. I think Reed may get some snaps or be cut if the KR job has been passed to someone else and if he doesn't impress. I think all four of them will see snaps in the season.

I'm personally pulling for Streeter to win #3 just because of the potential of two outside threats with him and Torrey on the field. However, realistically I think Doss will have the #3 spot week one but like most people are saying Streeter will get some playing time in RZ situations and maybe some 3rd and longs.

I think Streeter will make the roster because we don't have a lot of depth in the WR. However, he is a project so he's probably going to be inactive all season long unless injuries occur.

I say this is a project year for him to improve on everything and hope he breaks out next year.

However, knowing Cam, his big target body might speed up the process and we might see him on the field earlier than expected.

Streeter got now till preseason to see if he is even worth a roster spot.

David Reed shouldn't even be collecting a paycheck from the Ravens at this point.

Anyone else is fine with me.

IF Streeter makes the 53 (and that's a big IF) he probably wont make the active 45 on game days. He doesn't contribute on STs and is VERY raw. I def don't see him as the number 3 and taking a roster spot. Doss was much more polished and saw very little last year.

I agree with everyone saying that this will be a fluid position. I can see a lot of possibilities, based on whatever the situation is, for who will be out there and where they'll line up. I'm hoping Cam will open up the playbook further because at the end of the day it's up to him.

Doss probably has the best ability but I see Williams getting it simply because Flacco likes him. The passes to Doss seemed pretty forced while his passes to Laquan seemed more natural. None of them are gamebreakers so it comes down to chemistry.

If we don't focus on Streeter much than we may be pleasently surprised in a year or two. If he gets down route running and improves his hands, Streeter will become a monster threat but we can't get too hyped so early.

first off i dont see us running too many 3 receiver sets. dickson and pitta will most likely split out wide

on talent alone, i think the position should go to doss with laquan a close second. however doss is a bit handicapped because hes more of an inside guy and i cant see us taking boldin, dickson, or pitta out of the slot in favor of him too often. laquan seemed to do pretty well on the outside in limited action so this should earn him some good playing time. so i think that they will be splitting snaps based on matchups

It's a very real possibility that we will go with a lot of 2 TE sets and the 3rd WR once again goes by the way-side. Lots of variables involved including preseason/TC/practice performance, match-ups, etc.
You make a good point I think Doss was simply just not ready last year. He looked like a NFL ready receiver to me based on what I heard about him, but we also don't know how he does in practices and so on. I think with a full off season and OTA's he will get that 3rd spot. He will get good competition from Laquan Williams and maybe even David Reed.
A good coordinator would know how to get production from 2 pretty good TE's and also be able to use more than 2 receivers.

Cam's philosophy is put the best 11 guys on the field. Last season it was pretty clear that our rookie WRs were not up for it. I hope they get better and actually get involved in the offense, but it is up to them to make the requisite improvements.

I think we'll see a combo of Doss and LaQuan. Different situations call for different players. Streeter may get an opportunity to later in the year as well. I'm not even sure if Reed makes the team, yet alone takes the #3 WR.

I honestly think the ravens shouldnt have a primary number three wideout but instead rotate Doss, Laquan, Reed , and Streeter in for different situation. It will mix things up and since Torrey Smith will always be on he field the opposing defenses will have to still respect his speed which will give the other guys more room to do what they do best.

If Williams improves on his catching and route running I would love to see him be our #3.
