2013 Compensatory Picks

10 posts in this topic

Just wondering how many compensatory picks we are going to get in 2013 Draft.

So far here is the list of Players we have lost / signed so far.

LOST:

DE Cory Redding (Indianapolis);
DE/LB Jarrett Johnson (San Diego);
OG Ben Grubbs (New Orleans);
SS Haruki Nakamura (Carolina);
FS Tom Zbikowski (Indianapolis);
NT Brandon McKinley (Indianapolis)

SIGNED:

CB/ST Corey Graham (Chicago);
S Sean Considine (St. Louis)

I don't fully understand the logic/formula used in awarding comp picks.

But we should be getting 4 picks at least in 2013.

The maximum amount of Comp picks that they can get is 4, so they will definitely be getting that number, since it's pretty unlikely that they will be signing anyone of consequence from here on out.

Grubbs should net us a high one. Probably a 4 even though it should be a 3rd rounder. So I'll guess a 4 for Grubbs, a 5th for Johnson and a 6th for Redding.

Its basically the FAs you lose, minus the FAs you sign (6-2), os in this case 4. It then sort of goes by the contract to determine the round, in comparsion withh other FAs contracts. Grubbs contract was just below top tier this time around due to inflated deals, so expect a four, possibly a 3rd if were lucky. Then its subject to change based on Post season honours, such as Play offs, probowl, as well as general playing time during the year. I would expect all guys to be starting, Ben Grubbs is really the only one that may get to the post season however, so that could inflate his up to a 3rd. You may get a 4th from a guy like Redding who, if he continues his form from last year, could have a really good year. The rest would be 5/6/7 round picks probably.

But it wont be annouced for like 11 months, you a little early

FWIW, Considine signed a veteran minimum contract - to be a back-up - so assuming he doesn't get a lot of starts, it's likely that he won't even qualify for the Comp pick calculation.

As such, it's likely going to be 6 lost versus 1 signed. Not that there's anyone out there worth a damn, but it does give them the ability to sign another UFA and not start losing one of their 4 Comp picks.

Yeah I doubt Considine will count, but I also don't think McKinney will net anything. So it's back to 4

McKinney signed a 2-year deal that averaged over $1M a year, so he's likely going to qualify, at least initially. What he does as far as PT may move him out of that category, but these guys in the 7th round comp pick range are rarely starters anyway.

I predict we get a 6th round pick at the lowest and as high as a 3rd. Our best case scenario is a 3rd, and two 4th round picks and a 5th round pick. That's unlikely to happen unless JJ, Redding, and Grubbs really tear it up. Most likely I see us getting a 4th, 5th, 5th, and a 6th.
