Free Agent Frenzy Ota/camp Edition

4 posts in this topic

Free agency seemed to leave faster than it arrived, however there are still a few decent veteran options out there that Ozzie just might give a look-see to add depth or veteran leadership.Ozze is known to throw in a couple veterans in with the rookies and UDFAs that are starting to be stockpiled. So here are a few pretty, and cheap veteran free agent options and there upsides.

Stephen Cooper LB 32yrs. Solid Tackler, veteran leadership, solid depth.

Joey Porter OLB 35yrs- 2011 stats- 6 games 16 tackles, 1 sack.

Andre Carter DE 33yrs- 2011 stats- 14 games 52 tackles 10 sacks.

Jim Leonhard S (our old buddy) 29yrs- 2011 stats-13 games, 48 tackles, 1 fumble, INT.

Bob Sanders S 31yrs-Once one of the top safeties, his only flaw is serious injury proneness.

Braylon Edwards WR 29yrs- Tall, fast, hands, physicality. Another who could be great if healthy.

Mike Sims-Walker WR 27yrs-If you look at the stats there decent, look at the tape its good, hes a cheap option and if healthy could help us out.

Dallas Clark TE 32yrs- An aging talented receiver, and in a league where you can never have too many receivers or too many tightends Clark could be one of Flaccos favorite targets in a furious TE tandem Pitta-Clark. And at vet minimum you cant go wrong.

SO there you have it some free agents who still have a little left in the tank, or who could prove the nay-sayers wrong in training camp, and at veterans minimum you cant go wrong its worth the shot. Im not saying we would get all of these guys but Ozzie is an unpredictable guy, I feel like he may add a guy to the d-line or secondary, or even a receiver. Feel free to list any intruiging free agents you would like to see the Ravens sign or think they might sign in the final part of 2012 free agency.

Regarding Stephen Cooper the LB, I just don't see it happening. We have a lot of linebackers, and I don't see the team seeking an older LB when we have Ray. I see us keeping the LBs we have.

As for Carter and Porter, I will discuss them here because I see them both playing the same position. Carter played in a 4-3 defense, so he's a DE/OLB not a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DT. Suggs has the ROLB spot locked down. It's the LOLB spot that is open, which I believe Upshaw takes from Kruger. Regardless, we will need to give Suggs and the other guy (Upshaw or Kruger) some relief, so having two OLBs as back-ups is a good idea. I can see us get one of these guys if McAdoo or KIndle don't impress. I also see more cuts coming, so we may have better options later.

Now let's talk about Leonard and Sanders. Leonard has started to have a lot of injuries, and Sanders has always been injured it seems. As a result, I see little reason to give them a roster spot when they will be precious. I will say no to them.

Braylon Edwards or Mike Sims-Walker...eh. Edwards has pretty bad hands. Also, he played for his brother in San Francisco. I have a feeling that Jim would have told him some things that may turn us away from Braylon. As for Mike, the Rams had him there last year and he didn't even make it far in the season and returned to JAX. If the Jaguars and Rams (teams who needed help at WR) didn't want him, I don't. I'll wait for a guy to get cut after camps and stuff.

I wouldnt mind Jimmy being back in our secondary to back up reed/pollard. However, hes been injury prone lately. Id still love to have him back. Have him return punts, and webb come in like Reed does at times (when we need a big return)
