I think he is talented as well. I can see him make the team, honestly. What if Anthony Allen gets 'injured' in camp? Lots of things can happen between now and the season. I can see him make this team, and even if he doesn't crazy things have happened in camp.

Quite true. Harbs always loves his STers, maybe we can snag him for STs.

I thought long term for a second, perhaps we can hide this guy on IR or the PS for two years, and make him our FB when Leach's contract expires? Just a thought, not too serious, but it's worth thinking about I guess.

It wouldn't surprise me. It seems to be the Ravens way. I think he offers a lot more on special teams than Anthony Allen, as much as I like him. I wouldn't be surprised if he made the team, as I said. The Ravens want to get better on special teams and he may really help.

I found this on bleacherreport.
It's highlights of FB Chad Diehl from Clemson. it's just good fullback tape
After watching the whole thing, this guy does a good job. He blows people up and knocks them down and hits hard. He needs some refinement, of course, but I like the way he plays. The one thing that stuck out at me is that the offensive line is not very good there. I think that had an impact on the way it may have been seen. If you look only at him blocking people, Diehl is one of the bright spots in that run game. The guards there are terrible from what I just saw and seem to take a lot of plays off.

You're kidding. Some good blocks? He blew them up. Pancakes and crackbacks all over the field.

Well no one knows if he'd do that to bigger and faster guys in the NFL yet. Did anyone know if Leach would? Come on now! That's just common sense.

Blocking the wrong guy? Idk, unless you have a copy of their playbook, and the playcall you can't make a silly assumption like that. It looks to me like he blocked the right guy...

What poor decisions?

I like this guy. He's physical, aggressive, and a hitter. I'd love to practice squad this guy.
Well this was a bit over the top for a response that was strictly opinion.

I like him as well. When I said good blocks, I was referring to the pancakes, etc.

If you watch the video again, you'll see him bypass some guys leading the runner into losing yards. Regardless of what they playbook says, you have to recognize the unblocked guy in the backfield rather than go for the guy in the secondary. Letting his runner lose yards while you make a block that has no effect on the play equals a poor decision.

I like him as well, and I'd love to have him on the practice squad. However, you can't let his hard hitting overshadow the mistakes he made.

He won't make the team unless he outplays Leach so there's no point in getting excited because it's not going to happen.

Sorry for being so negative but it's just the truth with this business unfortunately.
He could make the team as blocking tight end that catches the ball every now or then.

This isn't one of our UDFAs, but Nelson Rosario was cut by the Jaguars. We brought him in for a visit, so what are your thoughts of us bringing him here to Baltimore? I would really like it. I would love to stash him on the practice squad. He needs development but from what a few people have told me who know who he is he has upside but needs work.

Just recieve news that the Ravens are considering #13 Rashaad Carter WR Tusculum College as rookie tryout player?!
6'2 210 4.46-4.58 forty time. Long arms 33 and 10 1/2 inch hands, longshot considering D2 comp. But almost 3,000 recieving yards on 210 career receptions and 23tds this kid could earn a longer look as he has incredible hands and deceptive speed. Has great ball skills and attacks the football at its highest point.

Not too bad. Looks a little slow in his cuts. Could be a nice practice squad guy to see how he develops.
Definately not a finished product by any stretch, but if you are in need of a reciever who is sure handed and can make the tough grab in traffic this guy looks the part.

It's hard to say because a highlight video is exactly that - a showcase of his strengths. It's hard to tell his weaknesses when they're not explicitly pointed out. He does look to have some potential, but there's no way he makes the team if he's even signed.

Just pointing out that saying he has sure hands and makes catches in traffic may not necessarily be true. The video is showing his highlights - all of his positives. The video fails to show whatever negatives he has. If he was as sure handed as the video shows, he would have been picked up already and not getting around to tryouts. I know he went to a small school, but most teams won't miss out on a guy like that if he's that good.

There's potential, but a highlight video only shows so much.

I have to see more of him and will do more research on him. With that said, I liked what I saw from the highlight reel. I don't like the WRs we got as UDFAs, I'm sorry. I am unimpressed by them.
I'm a ucla fan so ive seen him a lot. He definitely has potential but he loses focus a lot he'll make a lot of crazy catches but then will come back and drop a easy one. He doesnt seperate well either but if the ball is in the air he goes up and gets it.

these are some of the crazy plays I was talkin about

Nice catch. I know it's only one, but I like his tangibles. He needs work for sure, but there's always some hope he becomes a Danny Gorrer or something. I would definitely put him on the practice squad or our developmental squad aka "Injured Reserve".

Any other tape on him, like some of the negatives and positives?

theres not much on him bcuz of ucla running so much and theyre poor qb play. I hope we can sign him tho, he definately has upside and I think his best football is ahead of him.
I think a lot of these unsung guys arent all that much less of a talent than the majority of these big school, big name, guys. The league has become more about what people do without the pads, as oppose to what they actually do with the pads on. And while i understand that these test and tools are used to filter the talent pool, productivity has to account for something, And while there have been success stories and just as many epic failures, ill take the proven football player over the workout warrior. just my opinion

Oh, neither do I. I like the small school prospects a lot. I just didn't like the WR UDFAs we brought here this year. I hope we get more, honestly. I love the competition. I really want us to bring in Rosario.

We will only carry one fullback on the roster, Diehl could wind up on the practice squad and be called up incase of injury to Leach. Teams don't lose fullbacks off their practice squads, a lot of teams never use a fullback. Fullbacks and #3 quarterbacks are the safest players on a practice squad by a long shot.

The Colts needed a fullback to field a power run game, he was on our roster until week 12. The odds of a team needing a fullback mid season are slim to none, and carrying a backup at the position doesn't happen.

The Falcons did carry Snelling and Mughelli in 2011. Snelling opened the season as the backup to Michael Turner, and was used at fullback following Mughelli's season ending knee injury in October.

I don't see Diehl as being able to play as a back up running back like a Snelling or LeRon McClain. There are too many other positions of greater value on the roster.

I like this Chad Diehl kid, also. I recently read that he was married, and has a baby on the way...so he definately has something to play for. I think it would be prudent to keep him on the team as a backup to Vonte Leach should something happen to him. I like the idea of some insurance to help the running game. Diehl also has experience at the TE position, so he provides some versatility as well.

I'll admit, I wasn't the biggest fan of his after watching a highlight video someone had posted where he made some poor decisions in my opinion. However, he has really grown on me after seeing a few more clips and reading a few more things. I think he has a legitimate shot at making the team. If they decide to go with 3 RBs, I could see them carrying 2 FBs. The 3rd TE spot is wide open as well and with his blocking, he could be a good fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if we tried him out as a H-back type guy, to play TE and FB. San Fran had some moderate success using Miller in that role, as did New England with Hernandez.

Very true. I could easily see Diehl make this team as an H-back player who provides depth to the TE and FB positions respectively. I expect big improvements from the two TEs this year, so I feel like we could take a player like Diehl as their back-up and be OK with it.
