I'm not completely sold on Jones right now but...I just don't see a downside here. He'll have to earn that $7 mil, very little of it is guaranteed money, so if he doesn't perform we're not out that money. As we saw with Pollard, it could be just a bad fit for him in Houston. Perhaps this change, our system, our coaching, our team mates, is what he needs to break out. We're not bringing him in to replace Boldin or Smith, so even if he repeats last seasons' numbers, that's not bad for a #3 receiver IMO.

I'd keep my eyes on the Buccaneers (Preston Parker), Redskins (Anthony Armstrong), and Patriots (Anthony Gonzalez, Jabar Gaffney, Julian Edelman, Jeremy Ebert) for potential #3's to get cut.

This is what Boldin said on Jones: "I'm happy to have him. I think he's a good receiver as well as a good returner. I've been on teams that have been burnt by him. I remember in Arizona he took a punt back against us that made the game real close. I think just adding a threat like that on the outside is big for us."

And what Harbaugh said: "He's done really well. Great attitude, really, really hard worker, very fast, big, physical guy. He's done a really good job."

Really, the bottom line is that Flacco was most effective last season when he was airing it out in deep and intermediate-deep throws. Dudes like Jacoby Jones and Tommy Streeter need to USE THE SIDELINE and just hold on. Oh, and Cam Cameron needs to be thinking this way. What's so wrong with taking 6-8 deep shots with only one TE or none, single-back on the field? Cam can still have the 2TE flexibility most of the game, but START CALLING THE GAME TO FLACCO'S STRENGTHS.

Do I need to explain..........

Needed some stick-um on his facemask to make that catch.

Don't get your hopes up. The guy is absolutely nothing can't run routes cant catch in traffic. Scratch that can't catch at all and just makes bad decisions.

According to Nfl.com http://www.nfl.com/n..._headline_stack

Texans are looking to deal him since they drafted Posey. Think there's any potential there? Never had more than 500 yards receiving in a season, but that's better production than we've got from any number 3 receiver last year. Would be someone to at least provide veteran depth and competition to our young receivers for that spot (just for the love of god do not let him field any punts or kickoffs lol)

Not for or against this, just proposing the possible scenario.
the texans (particularly their fans) wanted him the hell out of houston, he was practically run out of town. with a bit of luck he fits better into this offense and can contribute.hopefully having a veteran out there should help the younger guys/prospects that don't really have a place yet (tandon doss, laquan williams, tommy streeter) develop. a big play option to compliment boldin and smith wouldn't hurt either. that was the idea they had in mind for lee evans, which almost worked.time will tell =]

You just described 97% of the receivers the Ravens have ever had.

He just has to be good enough to bust down the opposing team's #3 corner back. I'm sure he can get er' done

the season hasn't even started yet and some of you cats in here are sooooo negative! you say...Jones can't do this! He can't do that! interestingly enough, you negative cats are sitting at home (like me) on the couch watching him play. lol! EVERYONE can improve their game! Ozzie and the FO saw something in Jones that they really like and so they brought him in. now, we have OTA's and training camps taking place. i believe that all he needed was a change of scenery and an opportunity to shine. i watched his interview on Raven's Nest the other night and i like his attitude. this cat is already talking like and thinking like a Raven! i'm sure he'll play like one!

Well, remember last year the thought was Evans would be two, and Some even thought Doss over Smith for WR3. Jones is a contender for 3rd, not a sure thing since his contract isn't guaranteed money. So, it's not the same deal as before. it'll be more like 2010 when Housh was brought in to be number 3, but Jones is younger and faster...and remember 2010 was Joe's best year Statistically.

Reports said Jones was very inconsistent in OTA's catching the ball .

Bottom line is if you can't catch the ball, the speed don't matter !

From the LFW today:
Among his five lessons learned from the Ravens organized team activities (OTAs), Jason Butts writes that receiver LaQuan Williams made the biggest strides compared to other teammates who are also fighting for a roster spot. His route-running was “precise” and his timing with Flacco was “on-point.” Meanwhile, Butts believes receivers Jacoby Jones and Tommy Streeter need some work, but you may want to chalk that up to learning a new system. Good to know Jones is about at the same level as Streeter, who is a project rookie. Why are we kidding ourselves with this guy? I know it's early, but come on. If you're a vet who can't get it going in non-contact drills, why are you making $7 million on our roster? Worse than the Lee Evans and Stallworth signings!

Jones primary role was to be our returner, where he has shined. If he can be our 3rd WR as well that is an added bonus but he is going to have to prove he is better than the other guys on the roster.

Also his contract is heavily weighted towards the 2nd year of the deal. He can be cut after this season if he doesnt produce and we only end up paying him about 2.5M total including his signing bonus.

Right where it says they are struggling. Yes, he's in a new system. In this one you actually have to catch the ball. He struggled in his old system with the Texans too which is why he was cut.

Struggling does not mean they are on the same level... at all... How you can interpret that just shows how desperate you are for something negative to say about Jacoby Jones.

Idk about you guys but I'm super pumped about having him being our number 3. Out of all the veteran WRs we've brought in the past, none have been this fast, and this young. Be real now, when we got Evans he wasn't a true deep threat. I'm pretty sure Jones is faster then Torrey. That brings a whole new dimension to our offense that we havent seen yet.

The only thing that worries me heading into the season is our offensive line, and kicker.

Great, good, decent, struggling. Those sound like levels to me. Regardless, I'm quoting what insiders have said about Jones. Saying he's going to be a great 3rd receiver, or a true deep threat is what's desperate. Not taking the information we've been given. People with high hopes for this guy need to come back to Earth. And true, sliceanddic3, butts is a funny name.

Jones vs Torrey. A race I would love to see. Torrey could be faster but I would think only by a hair.
& Arnie, Mike Wallace, DeSean Jackson, Chris Johnson??/

Cary, I think, is the fastest corner we have. The way he ran down Larry Fitzgerald and caught Wallace from behind really stood out to me.
