MERGED: Kelechi Osemele

101 posts in this topic

Osemele has great potential, but I seem to remember hearing he had a problem with false starts in college, and that's the last thing we need on a line that already has Michael Oher.

That said, he does bring incredible strength and hard nosed play to the team, which is exactly what you look for in a guard. Probably the best prospect available on the inside of the line at that point, and after a bit of a run on them in the second round he's a good value. He may start from day one depending on how well he absorbs the play book.

I really like this pick. Our Oline may be stronger this year than people think.I was hoping konz would fall to the Ravens but, this guy is a solid pick, Can play guard or tackle.

He'll compete in LG spot. I see him starting in LG spot immediately.

Oher/Mckinnie, Osmele,Birk,Yanda,Reid/Massie......if massie gets picked up.

Does anyone think with the selection of Osemele and Pierce that we could go back to the 2008 Formula of running the ball majority of the time and playing keep away while playing good solid defense. I honestly believe that we could very well be going back to that and the only reason we haven't took a receiver yet.

No way... and if that's what you're hoping for, you'll be ticked off.

Decent pick here, a guy with high potential and obviously a monster physically that will clearly need some coaching. Still like it better than having to overpay for a below average free agent whose price will be jacked up because there's so few OL available. If the Ravens think that they can coach him up, this could prove to be a very smart pick.

Can you imagine if he works out, and we get a mean replacement for Birk? Good Lord, that would be an angry, physical front.

Has there ever been a really good guard 6'7" and over?
Carl Nicks is about 6'5 and he's one of the better guards.

I hope he is at Guard, it seems we really screw up when we try to move players out of position. Not saying he would be a good Offensive Tackle but I think he is better fitted at Guard and would make a great replacement for Ben Grubbs.

Everyone seems to think he can't play LT. They claim he doesn't have the feet to play LT but honestly can his feet be any slower than McKinney's at this point?

I did hear an "expert" on 105.7 The Fan saying how he absolutely manhandled Aldon Smith while in college. He is just so big and has such long arms that I think he can get away playing LT.

I love the versatility of our O-line. Every player will have potential to move around. Oher/Osemele/Reid/Yanda/Gino all will learn multiple position this offseason.

You think they would try McKinney in at guard and put Osemele in at tackle?
I think there will be a 0.001% chance of seeing that. McKinnie is a LT. At 6'8' 360 lbs, its pretty much what he is designed to do. He spent nearly his whole career doing it. The footwork is different as well as some of the other aspects. There would be little desire to try and move him to guard.

Plus you really don't want a rookie coming from Iowa state to be protecting Joe's blindside from the likes of the Steelers, Jets, Bengals, etc.

If anything you'd see Oher move back to LT. McKinnie on the bench and one of the new boys taking over at RT (including Jah Reid). Next year you could very well see a line like this:

Oher-Osemele-Gradkowski-Yanda-Reid

Only thing that worries me are the false starts. In the comment section the author also said to be prepared for the occasional false start penalty in the redzone.

Hopefully Oher and Osemele don't become tweedle dee and tweedle dum in terms of costly false starts.

if reid shows quick improvement, you could even switch him with oher for LT next year. it wouldn't surprise me. reid is more of a fit for a LT anyway in terms of size. oher gave me little to no reason to make me confident of him at LT right now. i want oher to stay where he is. i was onboard the idea of putting him to LG but now with all this competition for that spot post-draft, just keep him at RT.

"Using Osemele with your offensive line will give your quarterback enough time to locate and throw to an open receiver, provided your quarterback is not Rex Grossman or comparable model."

I think that says it all

Osemele will most likely be our starting LG this season. Next season when McKinney's deal is over, he may be a legitimate option at LT.

I feel like he could be an option, but I don't trust his footwork yet. It could improve, but I feel like his skill set is best suited at guard, and that's where he should stay. If he becomes a franchise LT, well, yay!
