Courtney Upshaw--Speak On Him

201 posts in this topic

Skip Bayless said this morning that he liked him actually better than Hightower. I like this pick...I was like YESSS when Stover announced him..

Love the pick. Traded back, picked up a 4th, and still got the guy that would have been more than justified at 29. Awesome.

Great power, plays with a high motor, and knows how to find his way to the ball in the backfield. I am interested in how we decide to use him, since his falling stock was mostly based on concerns about whether he would play DE or OLB in the NFL. But considering how we've successfully done a hybrid position with Suggs, it's something I'm not too worried about.

Outside of his pass rushing skills he actually plays the run better than some give him credit for and sets the edge as well as any player in this year's draft. The only concern is his coverage skills if we ask him to play OLB.

Now if only we could also bring in Cordy Glenn or Peter Konz.

I like the pick but he does look SLOW on tape . We shall see if he has enough
NFL speed to make an impact.

I agree, looks a little slow but not as slow as JJ... LOLZ

I'd agree with that . Certainly not Ray Lewis speed in his early years .

First round talent in the second round, plus a 4th rounder high enough to snag a falling 3rd rounder. I love the pick that keeps on giving.

I thought he was the best defensive player from Bama besides Barron. Love Bama and i love this kid. So disappointing when we didn't take him last night. The best thing about this pick is regardless of if he has his hand in the dirt or is the Sam or Rush backer, he's versatile and he fits our scheme perfectly Sizzle and Ray ray must be stoked!!

Hard work and determination will change that! Especially with the added motivation from falling to the second round!!!
Our defense will be so nice next year!
WHO will be able to run on us with all the run stuffers we have? WHO will be able to pass on us with our star CB's and ballhawk FS!?
WHO MAY I ASK? WHO. :D

Why can't I hold all these sacks? :D

Upshaw and Suggs are gonna cause a ruckus. Let's go and get Vontaze late!

I'm giggling like a school girl at the thought of Upshaw on one side, Suggs on the other lining up at OLBs with three other LBs lining up in the middle, with only Ngata and Cody as down linemen.

The Ravens love disguising blitzes and this is just one more way to do it.

Happy to have Courtney here....even though the Front Office with the pick basically said "we wasted last years first pick" which kinda sucks

Year before last, since I assume you're talking about Kindle. Part of being great at personnel is admitting when you were wrong rather than trying to make a player work and refuse to replace him. That was a problem I had with Billick in his later years, was that it seemed he went back to the same things that hadn't worked before.

Being a Razorback fan I know all to well how good this guy is. A good solid pick hardnosed guy.

Hes a Lamarr woodley type player. Big body, strong against the run probably more than JJ, and can get some sacks with his power and being relentless.

Well, Kruger will go back to being packaged in I guess but who knows, Kruger might can beat him out for the starting job. I know Kruger is probably not feeling that good right about now b/c it was almost as if the keys was passed to him for the position when JJ left but that's not the case now.

Suggs and Upshaw rushing in on 3rd down, Smith and Webb on press with Williams covering the slot, Reed roaming with Pollard skull bashing, oh yea did i mention Cody and Ngata, not to mention one of my fav's 51-yet another undrafted jem.....

My god Ozzie-the only problem i see here is we're going to have way to many probowlers on our D and they are going to say we're cheating.

2012 Ravens D vs 2000 Ravens D-bring it!

he did look slow. but, i believe that he'll make the adjustment to the faster pace NFL.

I really like the Upshaw pick, wish we would have traded up for Hill Konz or Adams earlier in the second.

I am THRILLED with landing Upshaw. He was one of two players I wanted us most to land. He provides the run stopping ability that JJ did, AND he can rush the passer. Phenomenal pick.
