Records Don't Lie! (Ravens' Drafted All-Pros Last Ten Years)

16 posts in this topic

As the draft gets near once again, all these draft experts try to reason themselves by grading every team's draft in picking up solid contribution for every pick. Well everyone should know that the Ravens are one of the best drafted teams and these draft histories and records should no doubt uphold that reputation. Also, All-Pros are more prestigious than the pro-bowls since popularity isn't a huge factor.

Last Ten Years: 2002-2011
Ravens Record: 94 Wins - 66 Losses
Winning Percentage: 58.8% (7th in the NFL)
Drafted All-Pros from Ravens: 13 (Not Including ST or Undrafted Players) (2nd in the NFL)

All-Pros from Last Ten Years who were drafted by the Ravens (Doesn't Include Special Teams)
Ray Lewis: 2003-2004, 2008-2010
Jonathan Ogden: 2002-2004, 2006
Chris McAlister: 2003-2004
Jamal Lewis: 2003
Adalius Thomas: 2003 (ST), 2006
Todd Heap: 2002-2003
Ed Reed: 2002-2003, 2006-2011
Terrell Suggs: 2008, 2011
Ovie Mughelli: 2006 (as a Raven)
Haloti Ngata: 2008-2011
Marshal Yanda: 2011
Le'Ron McClain: 2008-2009
Ray Rice: 2009, 2011

Ravens' All-Pros Draft Year (Doesn't Include Special Teams)
Ray Lewis - 1996 - 26th
Jonathan Ogden - 1996 - 4th
Chris McAlister - 1999- 10th
Jamal Lewis - 2000 - 5th
Adalius Thomas - 2000 - 186th
Todd Heap - 2001 - 31st
Ed Reed - 2002 - 24th
Terrell Suggs - 2003 - 10th
Ovie Mughelli - 2003 - 134th
Haloti Ngata - 2006 - 12th
Marshal Yanda - 2007 - 86th
Le'Ron McClain - 2007- 137th
Ray Rice - 2008 - 55th

Other Notable All-Pro Players (Special Teams & Undrafted Players)
Name - Draft Year - Draft Pick - All-Pro Year
Bart Scott - 2002 - Undrafted - 2006 All Pro
Billy Cundiff - 2002 - Undrafted - 2010 All Pro
B.J. Sams - 2004 - Undrafted (All-Pro KR/ST) - 2004-2005 All Pro
Brendon Ayanbadejo - 1999 - Undrafted (Chicago Bears) - 2008 All-Pro ST as a Raven -
Vonta Leach - 2004 - Undrafted - 2011 All-Pro FB as a Raven

(Now with these information, there seems to be a correlation between the number of drafted All-Pro players on a team and the team's win-loss record.)

Top Five Teams with the Most All-Pros in Last Ten Years:
New England - 15 All-Pros - 76.9% Win Percentage (Best in the League)
Baltimore - 13 All Pros - 58.8% Win Percentage (7th in the League)
Philadelphia - 11 All-Pros - 62.2% Win Percentage (4th in the League)
Indianapolis Colts - 10 All-Pros - 69.4% Win Percentage (2nd in the League)
San Francisco 49ers - 10 All-Pros - 43.1 Win Percentage (24th in the League [Outlier])

(Well Drafting as many All-Pro players does not guarantee a championship, but it certainly does help because the New England had the most Super Bowl Appearance in the last decade and their draft records of finding All-Pro players solidify their dominance in the league. Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Indianapolis were all powerhouses in the last decade due to their strong drafting performance.)

Bottom Two Teams with the Least All-Pros in the Last Ten Years:
Cleveland Browns - 2 All-Pros - 35.0% Win Percentage (Tied 2nd Worst in the League)
Detroit Lions - 4 All-Pros - 29.4% Win Percentage (Worst in the League)

(Now this shows what happens to teams, when they don't find success in the draft. It should be no surprise that the two of the worst teams in the decade struggle to find stong talents to add to their teams to compete in the league)

Now after looking into these statistics and records, I can tell that the teams that build their teams with quality drafts will have a great chance to compete for the Lombardi year in and year out and why some teams haven't found success for the past decade.

the bolded dont count, they were all drafted prior to 2002, the article says we have drafted 13 people since 2002 that have made a pro bowl.

Its not 13 people we have drafted that have made a prob bowl since 2002.

I read the article this morning, you have mis understood it

My bad...

There's some confusion.

What I meant was the players who made it as an All-Pro in the last ten years.
but thats not what the article says, it says 13 players DRAFTED SINCE 2002. So who is the other 6 we have drafted? or else they have it all wrong, which is a stupid mistake for a journalist

Wow, that's quite an impressive list. I wonder if we would have been so good if we stayed in Cleveland?

Hmm... I understood the article as players who made the All-Pros list in the last ten years who were drafted by their team. Therefore, the ten year list is made of All-Pros, not the drafted years of the players. Well I try to simplify the wording as players who made it as All-Pros in the last ten years.

I double checked the 13 players that the source gave as drafted All-Pros, which does not include pro bowlers before year 2002, players who didn't go undrafted, and other players who made as Pro Bowls with the Ravens, but not drafted by the Ravens.

"Fifteen AP All-Pros from 2002-11, excluding special-teams players, were drafted "

To me that means drafted since... maybe im wrong

yes im quoting from the paragraph, they are talking about players drafted since 2002 according to the paragraph, so in the table, when it says 13 ravens, it means thirteen ravens drafted since 2002. As explained by the paragraphs prior

They dont call Ozzie, The Wizard of Oz for no reason lol. Although we struggle picking offense more than defense, he has succeeded in inputing critical parts into place where need be.
