Ravens Vs Steelers History

22 posts in this topic

I know the ravens hate the steelers, but can anyone give me a history of how exactly this started? I know we weren't always in their division, did we hate them before that? Hope someone can help.

It started in 2001 when the Ravens were defending superbowl champions. They started running their mouth when they won nothing at the time.

That's why I laugh every time the steelers always say the Ravens don't back it up. When this rivalry started because the Ravens did back it up.

Greatest current rivalry in the the NFL no question. Ill be at the November 18th game in the Burgh to see Baltimore live for the first time, stoked! Decked out in Ravens gear obviously.

It's the biggest rivalry in sports to me. But one thing, yes we have always been in the same division. When we came in to the league in 1996, we were in the AFC Central, which included the Steelers. In 2002, it became the AFC North that it is today.

I think it really started to pick up after realignment. Our biggest rivals in our early years were Tennessee and Jacksonville, who we had a ton of great matchups with. I believe a lot of people wanted to go to the AFC South, but the NFL decided we'd be a more natural fit in the AFC North and it's worked out pretty well that way.

I think it is all about the fact that we are both blue collar towns that love our smash mouth defenses. It is more that we both want to be the toughest teams. When we play each other, it is just a war!

Right?! When I read the line about the Browns' fans being 'jealous' of the Stooler fans because they were, 'more intelligent, well bred, etc.,' I laughed heartily. I'm surprised I kept on reading the article.

Losing to them 3 times in 08 still hurts....I was really hoping to return the favor last year

Especially because all three games were so close. the margins in yards in the reg season was something like a 2yard differential. Plus the terrible Holmes TD call, and that stupid stupid penalty by daren stone which is still fresh, but hey man the Tebow's took care of finishing em off which is awesome

At my old job where I use to work a co-worker told me that hands down the best rivalry is Broncos and Raiders seeing that these teams have been around for a very long time. It must be the oldest rivalry rather then being currently the greatest rivalry..

I'm still mad about the flop in the divisional game that cost us a td. We gave that game away though. I really did want to see them again but if we had lost to them the same way we lost to Pats Ravens fans might have been cutting their wrists or jumping off roof tops.

It was a bitter rivalrie going back to the "old Browns" days and it just intensified when the move was made to Baltimore and the Ravens improved through the years. IMO
