Solid interview. Ed got a little fired up there towards the end, I love it. 20 is a true football man in and out, he lives it he breathes it more than almost anyone. All he cares about is Respect and his Legacy, he knows that Baltimore and its fans truly understand how fortunate we have been to see this kid come in as a late 1st round pick and turn in a Hall of Fame career.

He knows he can play a few more years ( and with the way he has adjusted this game I know he can), but he knows that is going to take a toll on his body in his later years. He wants to make that sacrifice, but wants to be compensated for it so he and his family is taken care of for life. 20 deserves every dollar he makes and nobody can argue otherwise.

In reference to the Manning cut, he also mentioned Montana being cut. He saying every player in the NFL (Not For Long) has a shelf life, and when it comes down to money anyone is expendable. Hes simply making the point that when the time comes you have to move on. Ed will retire a Raven.

He's right. Was a very good interview and you can tell Ed speaks from the heart, no bs. There were many plays I saw receivers open, but cause Ed was in the area qbs were hesitant. I say if possible, try and work something out with him, a 2-3 year deal now to lock him up and most importantly save cap space.

I think Ed is upset that he's long been the best safety but other guys have been getting paid more than him...I think the Ravens should extend his deal if he wants to play, and that way we can free up cap room

I think Ed is being a little unrealistic from a bussiness side of it. Does he deserve to be paid well? hellz yeah, but he's no longer the best Free Saefty in the League. Earl Thomas or Eric Weddle are, and he was kind of a ghost last season as was Polumalu. However I do feel we should pay him, as long as he doesnt ask for something completely out of reach.

I agree entirely that he's being unrealistic.

And I think you're on the right path when you say he's no longer the best FS. He still does a lot for our defense as a ball hawk and cover guy, but he's not a reliable tackler, and he's not always getting picks. The flip side of that is that its because teams throw away from him. When you have a DB that causes QBs to throw away from him you can take away half the field. You could cripple an opponent's passing game when you pair a guy like him with a guy like Webb.

He's declining a lot, but he still offers a lot to our defense. Although I'm starting to question if he's worth the 9 million he's getting paid.

part of that is because teams just dont throw towards him, he's right in that regard

he would get top money at this point in his career and he even admitted that, saying he's not asking to break the bank

I think that we all respect #20. He has been a fixture on our team for many years. I compare him to a previous #21 who quickly faded from glory and fell from favor with the coaches. It all began with a nasty contract negotiation several years ago.

If Ed Reed wants a extended contract. Ravens will find a way to give it to him. As long as he can play. That goes w/o saying imo.

Not really. Reed always complains about not getting enough money and respect about this time in the offseason. This is a regular part of the offseason lol

i completely see where Ed is comming from and understand his frustration, But one important thing that teams cant do is pay a player for what he did in the past. I love ed and his high risk mentality, but he has health issues that cant be ignored, when is the last time he finished a full season? The great thing about having him out there though even if he is injured is the offense still has to account for him and most of the time wont throw near him, so his stats dont really tell the truth...like most defensive players.

One thing he said in his interview, i dont remember the exact quote but he said something about his missed tackle against the bengals and something about how linebackers miss tackles alot but have players behind them safties do not. I think he hurt himself there,,,,in his case he made the point that safties cant afford to miss tackles....if that makes any sense.

Since this is a contract year for Reed, I wouldn't be surprised to see Reed be more vocal about getting a new contract. If we can get Rice, and Joe taken care of that would leave us free to Franchise Reed next year if we have to in order to give us time to work out a new contract for Reed. Considering his age, I would say a 4 year $25-$32 Million deal with $12 Million guaranteed wouldn't be a bad final contract for Reed and that ensures he retires as a Raven. Then again we could win the Super Bowl and since he is in a contract year, and the fact he would have a ring, he could just up and retire after this year if we win it all as well, so if I'm Ozzie I wouldn't worry about Ed's contract until next off-season.

You're not alone. Kinda worried this might end disasterously, myself. Ed's coming out and saying this (although warrented); that, combined with the fact that Ozzie, I feel, is doling out "P.C." answers regarding anything Ed Reed. I dunno, I just feel like there's a disconnect there that'll only be resolved by giving him a 4-year/$60mil contract.

I really hope this won't be the case, but if Ozzie pulls the trigger on a Safety early in the draft then I'll probably start to lose my mind with worry.

I don't think there are any Free Safeties out there that warrant a first round pick. I mean all the good Safeties in this class are all Strong Safeties in which Pollard plays that position for us. Now again, like I said if we can get Rice and Joe taken care of and we Franchise Reed next year and then draft TJ McDonald in the first round, then I'll probably begin to worry.

Umm... Last year

I'm a little scared about what he's saying, after next year his contract is up and he wants paid and Ozzie has show he won't over pay or give long extentions to aging guys not named Ray Lewis.

I wouldn't know what to do if I saw Ed in another uniform, that would be the the saddest day.

I am very worried about Ed Reed and have been for the whole offseason. I haven't been worried he would be cut or retire, but rather that this would be his final year wearing our colors and I do not mean retirement. His comments in this interview did not settle my concerns at all. Granted, I haven't had the time to listen but only read the interview. Still, I am very concerned by his comments.

Getting a long-term deal with Rice & Flacco will be great because we can use the tag on Reed if necessary. I personally want to restructure his contract (which from my limited understanding he was willing to do) for three more years to lock him here until 2014. I really hope we get Reed done.

We can afford Webb, Reed, Flacco & even Rice. I really see us trying to make it happen. I will just have to have faith that it can be done. We already got Webb taken off the To-Do list. Now Flacco, Rice, & Reed. I expect Flacco's contract to come next.

I can almost guarantee that other uniform would be red, white, & blue in the AFC East playing the Bills, Dolphins, & Jets twice a year with a coach with an affinity for hoodies & Ed Reed.

Bad part is he is 34 and has some nagging injuries. I want him to retire a Raven as much as anyone, but he has to be realistic as well. A bad team will pay him a lot of money to come and roam the outfield for them, but they wont win him a ring. We may not either, but at least he has a chance every year with us. But, if it means hariming us in the future, I would not give him a huge contract with a bunch of up front money. I deal with clients with nerve impingements a lot in my practice. I can tell you , even with the MDs he has access to, one bad contact can be very disasterous. MDs can work miracles in an operating suite these days, but getting someone back to NFL play is quite different. Lets hope he is reasonable.

I can understand where he's coming from in a certain respect. He deserves to be given an extension so that he's guaranteed to retire as a Raven. Although following from Bisciotti's comments about paying "ascending" players then I can see a sticky situation coming up next year depending on how much money Reed is looking for.

Bear in mind this is Ed Reed we're talking about. The only other Raven that causes as much (probably more) fuss whenever he talks to the media is Flacco.

Call it blasphemy, but I see it as a possibility that this will be Reed's last season as a Raven. Not saying I want that, but from what he's saying, and looking at our our cap situation, I would not be surprised if he left for another team. Especially with Bisciotti's comments about aging players.

I wasn't saying that their are similarities, but in light of the recent signing of Webb and the pending signings of Rice and Flacco, there is a possibility that Ed might not be back after this year.

What the heck is hariming..lol?

I'm really sure that like Payton, he wants to play, but age or injury catches up to everyone in the NFL. Honestly, I think that despite his statement that he'll play 4 or 5 more years this year will be the last for Ed. He has been fighting the same shoulder and neck injuries for several seasons and it has affected his ability to engage a runner in the open field. I really wasn't sure that he would return this year after the Bengals game. He was the hero that ended the Texans final drive in the playoffs. If it wasn't for Ed, then we never would have gotten to suffer through the heartbreak of the Evans drop and Cundiff wiff.
