But sharks are cooler. Jaws killed a killer whale in Jaws the video game which is accurate. It would be a blood bath.

Don't know why you'd even consider the Pleisiosaur over the blue whale. The Blue whale is like two times the size and probably close to 10 times the weight (it's only a third bigger than a sperm whale and the sperm whale weighs 63 tons - the blue whale weighs about 200 tons or more). The whale would just crush the Pleisiosaur, or at least force it deep underwater, and IDK if it can handle the depths.

The Blue Whale is so large that maneuvering would be tough. On top of that, it has no combat potential. No teeth, no claws. Not even a violent nature. The Plesiosaur would just zip in and out biting until the BW was exhausted and bleeding.

Boy. You sure do know everything, don't you? Why even bother to participate, what with your omnipotence and all? Kinda takes the fun out of it.

Blue whale males have been observed and filmed fighting for mating. Doesn't need teeth to fight, it can build up to speed and ram the pleisosaur (which has been observed in mating fights) - a Plesiosaur was not designed for deep sea combat. The blue whale would force it underwater and drown it. And for a big animal, I'd say it maneuvers pretty well. Also of note, blue whales often get into fights with other animals, like pods of killer whales, and larger sharks, and most of the time they survive - so facing down one lone animal smaller than a killer whale and winning should be no issue.

[/quote]

The maximum size a pleisosaurus has ever been known to grow is about 20 meters - however more than half of that was it's vulnerable neck - imagine a giraffe in the water. So we're talking about at best it being 2/3 the length of the blue whale, easily less than half it's weight given most of the length comes from the neck, and we're talking about a creature that swam in comparatively very warm waters. If the blue whale has no natural predators now, I'd find it difficult to imagine they'd find the plesiosaur very threatening. Now if we're talking Megalodon or L. Melvillei, I'd agree - but I just don't see plesiosaurus being able to beat an animal so much bigger than it when it has almost no weapons - it's teeth look more like they were designed for catching fish i.e. long and pointed like mako or tiger sharks (sorry for the science spiel, but I was a biology major in college and vertebrate and evolutionary biology were my concentrations). I don't think it could inflict the kind of damage required to beat a blue whale when a lot of sharks today can't do the job.

I'm sure Freud would have something to say about that. On the other hand, it explains why they decided to go back into the water - could you imagine having to walk around on land and deal with gravity while having that thing weigh you down?
