Good Afternoon!
First I would like to thank Ravens <3 for this idea. This is a tournament for animals if they fought each other to DEATH. There will be 5 divisions: Large Land Animals (LLA), Medium Land Animals (MLA), Small Land Animals (SLA), Underwater Animals (UA), and Mystical Creature (MC).
The round of each tournament will be done for each division through the poll and you vote for your favorite. Voting stops at the end of the month (4/30/12).

Winner with most votes gets a bye week!

Animals:

Praying Mantis
Humming Bird

Garter Snake
Chipmunk

Blue Jay
Skink

Lol a Blue Jay would slaughter a skink. They are very size different.

Who chose garter snakes over chipmunks? I used to have a pet GS and I can tell you they are small and not very tough. Chipmunks are enourmous compared to them.

I didnt think this was about the nature of the animal. I thought it was based soley on physical capabilities.

It is, but you can see a bunch of videos on youtube of mantis preying on hummingbirds. They eat whatever they can get - big ones will even go after snakes, squirrels, whatever. If you want more proof, ask Ben Stiller's character from Tropic Thunder. If I could find a clip I'd post it.

Seems legit. But I've seen hummingbirds in my own backyard chase off some crazy crap, so im still pulling for it.

Gottcha. But here's my reasoning. If it was a bigger bird yeah no question it would win easily. But they are about the same size, and both have weapons. The hummingbird may beat its wings fast, but looking at it I would say the Mantis has far superior reflexes and a quicker strike - plus it's a hunter, and has the instinct and drive to kill its prey, whereas I think the hummingbird would most likely try to flee.. And mantises seem pretty smart, too. A lot of those videos on youtube have a mantis sitting real still on bird feeders and just waiting for something to come by, then grabbing it.

Fair enough. I just think about the hummingbird using its needle beak to pierce.
