Every few weeks, another round of rumors pertaining to the next PlayStation hits the streets. Either it's boring, and entirely plausible, or too fantastic to be within the realm of reality. But the most recent batch, uncovered by Kotaku, falls straight down the middle and offers the most fascinating morsels to chew on thus far.

According to their sources, the upcoming console is code-named "Orbis."

I don't buy all of the details, especially since these are merely rumors and there isn't much evidence to suggest they're 100% fact.

I really don't think Microsoft and Sony would be stupid enough to eliminate the used game market altogether -- but I wouldn't put it past them. It'd just be a bad business move because Gamestop and other retailers could refuse to carry the consoles, thereby putting both sides at an impasse. It would also have a direct effect on the model of Gamefly and other businesses that offer game rentals, which would generally tick too many people off with too much money on the line.

Not to mention how much Sony and Microsoft make off of selling DLC when someone gets a used game.

Agreed. They'd affect too many businesses and it's not like they can't make money off of used games by simply SUPPORTING their games with DLC. There are too many ways Sony and Microsoft can gain that money back in DLC and it's not like their games don't sell well despite the used game market anyway. Like you said, too many retailers and people would be affected by this move in a negative way and those retailers are more beneficial to Sony and Microsoft than they are destructive.

Assuming these rumors are true, I don't know if it would sit with me well that a game that I spent $60 would have little to no value after I use it the first time.

How about they focus on actually utilizing all of the Ps3 capabilities..... Because, we all know they don't really cater to the PS3 hardware while making games...

the ps3 has alot of DX9 paths thats why its nvidia based graphics chip coupled with a cell processor make it harder to design for thats why alot of companies are not even trying mainly porting . Keep in mind the graphics in it is the = of a Geforce 7900x2. however the 360 has a DX 10.1 in it and BOTH are under utilized
