So I assume we freed up about $3.5 Million to $4 Million in cap to sign up our rookies and eat Jacoby's deal.

I've always felt that restructuring contracts is something to avoid if you can. Once you start adding years on to a deal, you run the risk of ending up with a player who gets cut or is just not productive and you're still stuck taking the cap hit on him. Besides, if I remember correctly the FO tried it in 2001 after we won the Superbowl in the hopes of retaining the team and making another run or two, and it ended up hurting us in the long run.

we saved two point something millions I believe. only top 51 paid players count towards the cap until season start, so rookies and udfa won't be calculated anywhere until the final roster is submitted to the league.

Because it is bad business. We dont want to end up like we were after our SB run. Steelers will not be a factor in 2-3 years. Book it.

Remember, this is The Ozzie Newsome. He knows what he is doing, and the contracts he gives to the players are probably the best to offer.

If we had the money to sign Rice and Flacco right now, then the deals would be done. I don't think restructuring is the end all and be all answer to our problems. I'm sure that the Ravens staff is more focused on evaluating the new talent. I'm sure they will determine what needs to be done to sign Rice and Flacco before the end of the season.
