Submarines Versus Airplanes Debate Thread

55 posts in this topic

The Debate thread is back and its weirder than ever. Sky verus Sea. Submarines versus Airplanes!
Who will win? We are talking about the best underwater vessels against the best Airplanes. It's an all out war.

Rules
Have a valid argument and evidence to support it. You cannot just say " Submarine because it is better".
Keep it clean
I might play devil's advocate and be neutral in the debate.

"In both world wars submarines were equipped with anti-aircraft weapons for defending themselves while surfaced, but they made the subs slower while submerged, and enemy aircraft usually stayed out of their range while calling in a destroyer by radio. After World War 2 submarines became streamlined to improve their speed"
We can improvise that we could put Anti aircraft guns on submarines.

Airplanes. They can destroy a submerged submarine. A submerged sub cannot shoot an airlplane. There's got to be a debate forum out there for you.

Well are we talking about art greyscale or the science gray scale. They are completly opposite from one another.

Subs without a doubt. They can surface and shoot the plane out of the sky then submerge deep enough to where a plane cannot hit them with anything

If that was the case WW2's Battle of the Atlantic would have played out far differently. From 1943-45 subs were considered easy targets.

Hahah, my bad dude. History minor and I read all kinds of books on WW2.

From 1939-1942 the wolfpacks of Germany were without a doubt ravaging the North Atlantic.

I think if we really cared we could put anti-aircraft guns on Subs. I like subs better, not as much for combat situations, but everything else. We've seen the sky, nothing new. The depths of the oceans have so much to share. We could find cures and alll kinds of things. On top of that, I want to explore the Mariana's Trench.

Fair enough lol. But Submarines and planes both aren't solely for combat use. Exploration is a drive in the very nature of humanity.

I disagree. I dont believe that combat is a part of human nature. I think it is added by nurture.

It doesnt have to be political. Its just about what things are inherently and universally human, and what is a social or natural construct.
