Think it was a little overboard. Gregg Williams should be removed for ever, Payton should of gotten 4 games, the fine is fair, but draft picks? I dunno about all of that.

"And you will know my name is the lord when I lay thy vengeance upon thee"- Pulp Fiction lol.

I'll say one thing, Goodell is absolutely ruthless in his pursuit of player safety.

Warren Sapps tweet is also good for a laugh:
NFL Dropped a Nuke On New Orleans! #ThirdWorldCountry Duck Vilma!!

Yeah my jaw dropped when I saw it on NFLN. I mean that's a lot.

Sean Payton will more than likely get fired from his position.

Meh, seems fair enough to me. I really doubt Payton and the other Head Coaches of Williams' former teams had no idea about his bounty system.

I don't see the point in suspending a GM for 8 games though...

I mean, is spags gonna be the Interim head coach?!

They suspended the assistant head coach as well for 6 games.

Throw money at Brees baby!

Well, Mickey Loomis said he wanted to pay Drew Brees like a "very good" Quarterback, not an "elite" one. Now he has been tagged while Payton has to sit out the season. Uh oh, N'awlins, say buh-bye to relevance.

My thing is this, Pats got fined more and and a first taken. I want to know what was on those damn tapes. That's pretty bad though, now Breeze has to be resigned or else its back to brown paper bag helmets for the fans. As long as he's there and happy I still see em winning the division. I wonder what Williams will get. That Spags pickup is looking a lot smarter now.

U had to see this coming.. I'm not surprised

Not of this magnitude.

Goodell just made Hurricane Katrina look like a gust of wind.

What do the picks have to do with the bounty? You fined the team a half a million dollars, took out their head coach, took our the assistant head coach and took out the GM.

It was too much. It affects the fans the most when you take away the picks and make them a crap team because their front office and coaching staff is gone.

Harder fines and less suspensions.

They will be relevant. If I'm Mickey Loomis, I am giving Brees a contract right now, and seeing where they need to be to have that offense in place without payton.

WOW! Goodell certainly did droppeth the hammer. League-wide message delivered!!!!

Payton gone for the entire season...wow. Williams gone at least an entire season....

Why suspend GM for eight games? Because Loomis knew about the bounty system...was asked by Mr. Benson to put a stop to it and he didn't. Can we say example made? At least the commish is letting Loomis be there for the draft.

And as for the draft picks, didn't the Pats have to forfeit one or two after Spygate? Bountygate is a much more serious thing.

Many people will see this as silly, overboard, etc. Come on. Who didn't see this coming? This is Goodell we are talking about here. Do you have any idea what the players would do (NFLPA) if the NFL didn't do something like this?

The NFL fines millionare players all the time for dirty play. They had to fine the coaches & team in this situation. Players like Harrison would have been very angry & rightfully so. You can't suspend a man & fine him for his hits & then not do something to a team of players who did dirty play.

I think the NFL has become soft, personally. With that said, looking at this from the perspective of people like Harrison this is just. I think it's an extreme punishment but I could have seen it be even worse.

First Katrina, then the Spill, now this?

This really is gonna hurt their economy if they do become irrelevant if not their drive.

A full year for Payton seems a bit extreme, but this all happened under him and he took responsibility for it.

Goodell has been very hard on players concerning player safety, and this goes above and beyond anything that has happened prior.

I pretty much agree with this punishment. Player fines/suspensions are still looming.

Agreed. How many penalties were issued to them for unsportsmanlike conduct? How many dirty hits were there really?

Baseball pitchers throw the ball at batters head to tick them off, so trying to injure a player by hitting them as hard as you can is a bad thing in football?

If they were twisting limbs, and aiming for the head or leading with a helmet, I would be mad. But from the footage I watched on ESPN, they were mostly clean hits INCLUDING the one on Kurt.

This game has gone soft but at the same time, the freaking locker room should of shown some discretion.

Tough punishment, but I don't think anyone is really shocked by it. Goodell has a history of coming down hard when people step out of line, and this isn't a minor infraction - it's basically a system that encourages players to deliberately hurt other players and in some cases possibly hamper or even end their careers. Hopefully this kind of punishment prevents future transgressions - if there's one thing I'm taking from this (and things like the Mitchell report), it's that sports leagues (MLB, NFL, etc.) have the money, the power, AND the courage to investigate these kinds of happenings and are finally doing something about it.

How does the fine hurt New Orleans when they don't have to pay Sean Payton, the assistant coach, and the GM? Seems like they're saving a lot of money in all of this...
