Lee Evans - Signed With Jags

Today's LFW addresses the possibility of bringing Lee Evans back should he not find anywhere to go during free agency for a cheaper price, which I've also considered as a possibility. I actually wasn't against keeping him in the first place. Yes, he had an injury which killed his productivity last year. Yes, he dropped a pass that would have had us in the Superbowl. But, there's talent there and if Cam utilizes him correctly and he remains healthy, he stretches the field which is what we want to see with a third receiver. He'll be our cheapest FA option for a receiver, and many think Ginn would be just as or less productive, and definitely more expensive.

Thoughts?

I really doubt we bring him back. He'd be the odd man out in the locker room.

........Although the first game-winning catch he makes, all will be forgiven I'd imagine.

Pending a THOROUGH physical, I wouldn't have a problem with bringing Lee back as our number 3 if he is 100% healthy. He already knows the system and is there really another number 3 guy out there that we could land and expect results from.

He dropped a ball, get the hell over it, anquan has done it before, heap did in 2006 and Ray Rice led the team in drops. Who cares, it's over and we are moving forward. Let him have his redemption and we already burned a pick on him we might as well see if we can sign him for less.

Lee Evans > Ted Ginn Jr. at #3. Ginn would be great for KR though.

EDIT: Not directed to OP, just to ravens fans in general who still are crying about the end of the game.

I had just finished posting about Evans on the renegotiating salary topic. I'm not for resigning Evans right away. Let him sit in limbo for awhile and see if anyone else will pick him up. Bringing him back will create a log jam for Doss and Williams, too. It's too soon after the playoff loss and some of us haven't forgiven him.

This topic would have been better with a yes/no poll.

Right player right price. Same as always. If the market is really bad for him, bring him in on the cheap.

Is he worth it? Perhaps. As Alexir said, have to make sure that ankle is fine. I was a proponent in keeping him the first time around, because it's not like the Ravens to just throw a 4th-rounder in the trash. Maybe he comes back, but for less than the $3M he was going to make.

Yeah, I just don't know what other FA WR's are out there besides Lee, TJ and Ginn. Lee tops the other 2 guys, but the price has to be right.

Good, because I've been over it. I said only a week or two after we lost that I thought it might be premature to let him go.

Yeah, we lost that one as a team. The pick, the 1 sack we could muster, the kick and the strip/drop and of course Birk getting destroyed by Vince Wilfork.

Maybe for $1M, but no more... I don't see how we can really trust him at this point (health-wise or ability).

If he's willing to take the vet minimum then yes. If he stays healthy all year then he could contribute as much as anybody else left on the market. He and Flacco showed promising signs last preseason and hopefully they could restart from there.

I would not consider him until after the draft. We may have too many receivers by then.
You can never have too many receivers, ask the 49ers that (Randy Moss, Manningham, Crabtree).

I dont think many will like what i am about to say but i say let T.O come to camp that wont hurt nothing you may be surprised. and i did like evans i think it was a bad year for him. injury and the drop the team as a whole should be better this year with mini camps and OTA's

If we do end up taking him back, then we'd look dumb unless we got him really cheap. He was scheduled to make $3M so I'd be happy if we can get him for $1M.

I would say yes to this also. We are trying to fill holes and it seems everyone who walks in the castle is just baiting another team. If we bring Lee back it opens the draft up a little more to fill the holes we do have now without worrying about that 3rd reciever spot.

he was the scape goat for the Ravens end to the Superbowl run, but in all honesty, he could very well be the 1 player that makes the game changing, game winning play. You just never truly know. Since this is the NFL, the place where anything can and will happen. a player's abilities can often get overshadowed by a mishap or hiccup. and all the sudden he is a dud. All it takes is him being in the right place at the right time.

if we bring him back, he could be the difference maker when it counts. like i said before.....

Right Player. Right Time.

I think he's worth it just because there is only leftovers in the free agent pile. At least he's had a year to work with Flacco. I would also take a hard look at big headed Roy E. Williams too.

No one has given him interest so he can probably be had at vet minimum. He already worked with Flacco last year. Bring him back. I don't think he'll be letting the ball be swatted out anymore. And I did like his one-handed catch against Houston. Lee would be the best signing of any FA vet right now.

I agree with most of us here that veteran minimum is what he's getting if he wants to suit up Ravens Jersey. I think Ozzie is open to have Evans back with cheap price or Ozzie will fill in 3WR slot through FA and the draft.

We all know T. Doss will replace Boldin, and all we need is a solid route runner with speed for 3WR slot. When Torrey has some room, Joe will bomb to him......

I'd bring him back. I mean look what he did in that game alone when he was actually involved in the game plan. He screwed up, he knows it, he went straight to Ozzie distraught and upset knowing what he did, looking for consolation. We won't find a better receiver on the FA market right now and unless Floyd drops theres no point burning an early pick on a WR.

I'd absolutely bring him back.

He's actually healthy at this point, and we clearly saw he was still capable of playing at the end of the season.

I say yes... and use our picks on OL and pass rushers. We can still find good receivers late... and most wr end up playing special teams anyways so unless we can get a sure thing early I think he will do fine coming back. On another note I wouldn't mind trading up and getting Glenn. He is a need over a wr in the draft. Or Konz... but we cant overlook some of the linebackers... I hope we can resign McClain.

I'd rather not. I keep harping on this, but I really feel Lee doesn't fit what Cam wants to do. I don't see much of a point in bringing him back when he doesn't work as well as some other receivers could in this system. Torrey's success after such a shortened offseason leads me to believe that if we were to draft a young receiver, we'd be able to get him on the field and he could produce. And I really think this is the type of system that it's better to have a less talented receiver that fits the requirements than a talented receiver that doesn't i.e. I'd rather have a bigger receiver that could be a real deep threat and win one on one matchups and jump-balls with corners rather than a smaller guy who would get shut out by the Brandon Bowners of the world because he's running the same sideline route over and over and over again.

I would pick him now for the vet min to keep people keep people from thinking I might draft a wr early in case. Also, it couldn't hurt to have him, he knows the system just wasn't healthy. The only reason I don't think we kept him in the first place was cost.
