MERGED: Joe Flacco Contract

101 posts in this topic

Now before i start, i dont want this to turn into a flacco debate on his salary (that thread has been locked for a reason) or is he elite, or average.

It is merely an update on the contract negoitiations as off today.

Joe Linta, said contract talks about the qb are "moving in the right direction."

He also said "It was a good meeting.Pat Moriarty is a pro. We're going to plow through this process and hopefully come to a good conclusion."

I sure as hell dont want to have to franchise him next year, because the way things are going with CB salaries, we will have to franchise webb next year because we may not be able to afford him to a LT deal, especially if Reed and Ray are back.

So get flacco sortid now, and hopefully at least one fo RR and Webb, so the other can be tagged next year.

At least won't slam us like Brees is doing to the Saints about getting franchised. I admire Flacco and have much respect for his parents for raising him right!

Yea Flacco is the last thing I'm worried about.. I kno he will get his money, but we need to focus on ray rice.. that's the more important issue right now.

Only thing slower than these contract talks is his release! Am I right?!

.... Jk, no news is good news we could have a disgruntled qb situation like Saints or the drama of Manning watch. Now that birk is done Linta can go full force on Joe. The status of rays contract is my grievance , all that money tied up with the tag preventing us from extending webby

It would be nice to extend Webb, but I dont think that is a priority right now. Getting the O-line sorted out seems to be most important.

Mathis and Winston are guys we are looking at but I rather get Webb locked up now before we have to give him big money like cortland, however Ozzie is probably waiting for teams offers for Webb to build his contract around that

Flacco must be really worried about the line right now. Grubbs is gone. There is a good chance that a rookie guard may be starting next to side McKinnie, who is not very quick. On any given play, Birk may be letting the rush up the middle. Also, Joe knows how Oher has trouble stopping the outside rush and frequently false starts to cost us 5 yards. He not only wants a new contract, but a kevlar vest to go along with it. Do you really blame him for asking for $15 million a year?

Sorry if this has already been talked about I didn't see it though.

With the 3/26M deal for Flynn and the rumored 3/24M deal for Alex Smith that helps set the QB market and should help with the Flacco negotiations. FA QBs besides Manning didn't get paid and he's a 4 time MVP.

Keep Flacco in the 8-10M range ideally. Max maybe 6/65M. Back end some bonus money

Flacco will probably get around 19.3 mil a year because he has put this team on his back and won us all those games the last 4 years and he consumes the steelers with fireballs from his eyes and lightning bolts from his arse....

On a more serious note, he will probably average 12 mil a year.

This. The interesting thing with Flacco is that he obviously deserves more money then Smith/Kolb/Flynn, but not as much as Peyton/Brady/etc. 12-13 is probably the deal were looking at.

That damn Rex tried to run up the price of qbs by resigning Sanchez. I'm not thinking under 13 unless he takes a very reasonable contract to help out the team. These next 2 drafts to me are very crucial due to our cap restrictions.

Not a chance we sign him for less than 13M a year, if Ozzie gets it done for under 13M a year Flacco's agent is a moron!

I think he'll end up in the 10 mil a year range.
You have to figure he will be getting a 6yr deal, with something close to $40M+ guaranteed, it will cost us at least $13M a yr. and total deal will prob be in the $90 - 100M total.

If you look at all other contracts out there, this is a fair deal for both parties, if they get away with anything less I will be amazed!

That looks like a fair deal. I'm guessing Flacco and his agent will want more though. I hear the talk about wins , evidently they don't have the Jacksonville game DVR'd where a scared rookie QB who played like garbage played better than the franchise quarterback.

Gabbert played atrociously. He definitely didn't outplay Joe, not that Flacco had a good game either. At least he led us to a TD near the end, but his bad INT sealed the loss.

Touchdowns win games and turnovers lose them, Gabbert had zero turnovers to my recollection. True franchise QBs don't have games like that especially against a team that has lost 5 straight. It was a pathetic performance and the point is any good that Flacco has done in Baltimore should be weighed against his numerous lackluster performances in which the stellar defense bailed him out.

I'm not a believer that he has the capacity to win big games or the talent to put a team on his back until he does so I'll hope the Ravens don't pay an average NFL QB franchise money.

I'm just going to set you up for this...
He's going to get paid a lot more than what you seem to think he's worth.

Let me reiterate the part I am most concerned with: "True franchise QBs don't have games like that especially against a team that has lost 5 straight" ...

Oh really?

What about Tom Brady, who threw 4 interceptions in a loss against the Bills, who had the 26th ranked defense in 2011 and only won 6 games, including at one part of the season a 7 game losing streak.

Or how about Drew Brees, who had a 1TD, 3 INT performance in a loss against the Bucs, who were the 30th ranked defense in 2011 and wound up 4-12 and didn't win another game for the rest of the season after they beat the Saints (they finished on a 10 game losing streak!).

He also had a 1 TD, 2 INT performance in a loss against the Rams' 22nd ranked defense who were coming off of a 6-game losing streak, and who wound up 2-14 and the only other team they beat was the abysmal Browns.

And let's not forget Aaron Rodgers throwing for less than 50% completion percentage in a loss against the Chiefs who were 5-8 at the time and had recently ended a 4-game losing streak, which could have easily been a 6-game losing streak by the time they hit the Packers, if not for the Chiefs catching the Bears in the middle of their own 5-game losing streak and still only beating them out just barely.

So don't give us this absolutely BS argument that franchise QBs don't have bad games against bad teams.

He's won the big games and put the team on his back, multiple times in the "down year" he just had.

He's going to get way more then you seem to think he's worth, so you may want to prepare yourself for that.
