MERGED: "Feelings" on How Free Agency is Going So Far

277 posts in this topic

Not sure why my topic was merged with this one. It has little to do with Free Agency, but was mostly about the youth on the roster stepping up and how excited I am about their playing time this coming season. Anyways, good stuff getting buried in fluff

Edit:..and there is another topic now that is just like the one I started except it is more about what we are not doing in free agency and less about the players we have signed. Hmmm...thanks mods! ;)

Little off topic, but he is technically a free agent.

For some reason Quinn Sypniewski popped in my head today. The I googled him to see where he was, and it looks like he never got over that ACL tear.

Its easy to sit here and say "relax......relax", but the fact of the matter is, teams who would be categorized as being behind us last year, talent-wise, have and continue to make strides to close that gap, and in some cases, surpass us.

i am not saying "sign everyone!!!", but hell, when we can't even bring in an Evan Mathis or pry a Marc Johnson from the Bills, that says something to me. Something that these free agents (and their agents) see, that we as the average fans do not.
yeah, it's called money. Something we don't have. You're over complicating this. This isn't baseball, we don't have unlimited cap to dispose of in getting players. Just means we have to draft well and our coaches need to get the young'ins ready to play. Next man up. I prefer that over dumping money in FA.

Once again, I can't stress this enough to everyone....WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY! If we did than we would have probably snagged a couple of guys. It's more a testament to how players are more motivated by money than anything

Alright, the picture is becoming much more clear now. We're beefing up special teams and adding some depth on defense, and I like what we're seeing.

I believe in what they're doing in terms of defense and special teams. Now I'm just curious and have no clue about what they're going to do to beef up the O line. I am not happy with where the O line is with this current roster, signings (be it free agency, trade, or draft) are essential, and I can't wait to see what happens. I think the receiving corps needs to be addressed as well, because obviously we can't go into the season with just 2 receivers named. I don't think we need to necessarily bring anyone in, though. I like Williams and Doss. There is no reason why after a full off-season and training camps this year they can't be used effectively as third and fourth receivers in our mix.

Edit: Oh, and kicking. What do we do about kicking? I personally don't feel comfortable going into the season with just Cundiff. I'm not prepared to bring the axe down on him, but somebody needs to give him some competition at least.

Can someone explain to me why we didn't give Brandon Lloyd a shot? He signed for cheap with New England and he could easily compete for the number 1 job here. Where does all of our cap money go if we keep losing players and signing no-names?

I think it was pretty much set in stone that Lloyd wanted to go to the Patriots and the feeling was most likely mutual.

I wonder why. Maybe because the Patriots make the moves to be perennial Super Bowl contenders

Chill out, man. We don't ever sign huge names in free agency and we're the NFL team with the most consecutive years in the playoffs at this point. We'll be fine.

I was wondering how the Pats were any more consistently a contender than the only team to make the playoffs the last 4 consecutive seasons.

I am happy to see us bring back McClain. I'm excited about some ST help and glad to see some depth at Safety. Still concerned about G though. Really wish the draft would get here.

The point is that even though we operate differently than New England they are head and shoulders above us as a franchise right now. If not for Lee Evans or Billy Cundiff, we'd have beaten them this past year and gone to the Super Bowl. Our FO operates differently and both lead to success. Yes, they are a bigger market and thus may draw more interest from players and the media as a result, there's nothing we can do about that.
