s130 million over the next eight seasons, including $113.5 million over the final seven years of the deal, league sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.
The contract includes $4.5 million in an existing roster bonus that's due on the final year of his rookie deal.

The deal also includes $53 million in guaranteed money, with Johnson's $1.25 million base salary in 2012 guaranteed, and $36 million due in signing and option bonuses. According to La Canfora, $11.5 million in future salary is guaranteed for injury only.

The contract makes Johnson -- who scorched the NFL with 96 catches for 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2011 -- the highest-paid wide receiver in league history, surpassing the eight

thoughts on this, i thought thats a bit high for a wide out even if this is Calvin Johnson.

A lot of people say this is a lot for him. Many people will say a QB should only make this kind of money, and will use AP as an example. Let's talk about this for a second.

Adrian Peterson plays RB, Calvin Johnson WR. While WRs do get hurt just as much, RBs have a higher rate of injury due to constantly being tackled. Wide receivers aren't always tackled so much, because there are more of them to share the load. Thus, the rate of injury is lower. Neither AP nor CJ play special teams, where a lot of injuries occur. So that helps. That's the first comparison I wanted to address.

Now, let's look at Calvin Johnson himself. He has the biggest catching radius of any WR in the NFL, possibly ever. He plays fast & explosive. His hands are very soft with the ball. He can make very difficult catches, even when the QB is bad. He is a playmaker with the ball in his hands and is hard to bring down due to his size. I've seen him covered by as many as three corners and he just kept going. If you're being covered by three guys and you can still catch the ball & get YAC that's very impressive. This is the NFL not NCAA.

Calvin Johnson makes everyone else better around him. He is so good, that he commands double & triple coverage, which allows other WRs to get open because they HAVE to cover Johnson. Stafford looks better than he is, because I don't think he is that great. He is a red-zone target, can go over the middle & run the edges. Is effective in the short, intermediate, & deep game. He is a very good run blocker. This guy is the complete package of a WR.

He is the Bugatti of WRs. He has it all. I bet if you put Flacco with Megatron, you will hear people say Super Bowl very quickly. He just makes people around him better, he is that good. I'm not hating on Flacco because I really like Flacco, but Megatron & Flacco would be a crazy combo. If Megatron catches the ball from Stafford well (not a fan of Stafford), then he would blow it up with Flacco throwing to him.

It's an expensive contract for sure, but when you're talking about a potential future Hall of Fame WR who may end up being better than Jerry Rice, you're talking about a special player who is worth that kind of money.

Come On Man! He's not Human!

I was willing to give up two top ten picks for him and eat his massive contract, yet got vetoed.

He's worth the money, but then his contract does increase everything! He's now the Julius Peppers of the Offense.

Totally agree on the Stafford thing. After watching that playoff game vs. the Saints, I could not believe some of the catches Johnson was making. I don't really watch Lions games, so I unfortunately haven't seen Megatron play too much, but what I saw in that game was ridiculous - he was triple covered on most of the plays and still had over 200 yards receiving and 2 TDs. Maybe Randy Moss in his prime is the only guy I can remember who was triple covered for an entire game like that.
