It's Quiet... Maybe Too Quiet...

We came within a catch of the super bowl. We don't need to blow up the roster. We need to add a few fine tuned pieces to fix gaps that we had last year. We were a top notch team even with those gaps, what does that tell you?

This topic throws some light on the financial problems faced by the Ravens in FA. We will need a guard to replace Grubbs when he signs with N.O. for $40-45 million. Mathias would make sense and he would come at a good price. I have not come to terms with losing both Webb and Williams yet. This is possible and will totally change our draft plans. The Winston interest doesn't make too much sense unless we plan to trade Oher. Of course, no one is totally comfortable with Oher at LT. McKinnie would make sense for another year, but we really need to address this position in the draft. Oher's contract comes up next year, too. Why don't we consider taking another Eagle (Jamaal Jackson) at center rather than go with Birk again? He is younger and has the experience that a rookie like Konz can't learn over the summer. Forget about Jacobs and Benson and let Allen be the backup this year. We really don't have the money to spend.

Whoa u touched like 10 different "topics" in that post
I'd almost bet there is 0% chance we lose both Webb and Cary. I don't see us losing either tbh

I'd say the idea behind the interest in Winston is this.. If we sign Winston and move oher to LT, that would still make our line as a whole better. Mckinnie's is gonna be a year older and oher could do as well as mckinnie's did last year (possibly) and of course Winston can do his thing at rt

And if we drafted say knoz? He would ample time wore the season started to learn the system and e ready for the season. Obviously he would have the experience of a seasoned vet but there are pros and cons to each

The latest WalterFootball.com, has us taking Konz in the first and Mychal Kendricks in the second.

Walter Football is so stupid. I don't even listen to them anymore when it comes to the Ravens. They know nothing about our team. Well, they know some, but they don't know any more than we do. I would actually say most of us know more than they do.

At least they're somewhat knowledgeable that we pick the best available player. Also, they do know how the Raiders pick.

Top notch teams are not making big splashes in FA. Teams typically with losing season records or enough cap room are.

Just wanted to say that I just discovered that website 10 minutes ago when looking for a good off-season moves tracker. I like the site. I haven't looked at any of the opinion or analysis pieces or anything, I don't really care what they have to say in terms of that, but I like their off-season moves tracker a lot. It's easy to read, it's quickly updated as events occur, and it keeps a concise list of each team's free-agents and what's happened/happening with them all.

They have some nice analysis on players, moves, etc. I agree with you there. Easy to read website, too. I just think they have no idea what they are talking about with their mock drafts & stock for players. Lol.

I've never heard that odd comparison, but it certainly makes sense!

You know what's really funny? I just read the article on BR.com & it says that "more like buzzards than ravens" referring to the way we do business. Lol. I was thinking "did they read my message on here?"

Lol.

The idea of us being buzzardlike has been around for a long time. Nothing new/

I'm not taking credit for that or anything, I just thought it was funny that I used a similar line & they did. I find it highly unlikely he read my post on an insignificant message board, lol.

Walt is funny, and he usually has a lot more prospects listed than most draft sites - but his analyses a lot of the time are terrible. If you really are interested in prospects, look at multiple sources - I use Walterfootball, CBSSports, Draftcountdown, and fftoolbox. Still, when Al Davis was around Walt had a ton of funny things to say - and he was spot on with most of his Raiders picks during that time (not hard to do, since you just had to look at all of the combine warriors i.e. DHB, but still).

They also have us drafting a CB (Casey Hayward) in the 3rd round.
The first two I get, but Hayward, just no. Especially since he has Tommy Streeter getting picked right after that. I mean if Streeter is still on the board in the 3rd round and Hayward is the pick, I have to wonder what Walt is smoking - especially since he claims we have CB depth issues - maybe in the past, but CB is one of the deepest positions on our team right now.

I don't think we'll pay through the nose for Webb. He didn't play particularly well his first couple years; we need to see him do this again before we break the bank for him.
I too agree, he could be another Foxworth (doubt it but you never know) where they play one really good season and a couple other decent seasons and then get paid a mint. Then the following season they get burned, slow down, or get injured. Im not saying Webb sucks or anything. He looked great last year and showed flashes of excellence throughout his rookie season and up until now. BUT you just never know.

Inconcistency is one of the worst, but most common factors when it comes to players. One year they might look superb, then fall off the following year. I think one more season Webb will show he truly playes like a top corner and deserves the Finnigan-Esque contract. Besides right now I dont think he would be satisfied with the contract we would offer him.

And I think the same could go for Flacco too, he didnt have the greatest season last year, with this year he could improve and assure the coaches and us fans he really deserves the big bucks.

It's obvious when you read what they wrote about Ricky Williams to justify our drafting a RB in the 5th.

They do tend to become more accurate as we approach the draft. But really, their mocks are crap until April.
In the future we're going to need to replace Ed Reed. We already have the answer in Lardarius Webb! $10 Million on a shutdown cornerback is worth it. The guy didn't give away a TD and you saw him in the AFC Championship, where he made Brady to think twice to throw at his direction. It will be great to have him under the tender contract this year with a $4 Million dollar Signing Bonus, so we use this restricted year as part of his long term deal. Next year, we're going to get a lot of money freed up with dead money from the released players, TV Contract, Ed Reed's contract, and more money from the Cowboys and Redskins. So This year, we're playing the survival game to keep our team intact for long term. At least nobody will have a problem giving up big money to Webb, Flacco, and Rice, when other crazy teams are giving up big money to mediocre and troubled talents like Eric Wright, DeSean Jackson, and Matt Flynn.
Could you elaborate on your comments about Ed Reed's contract? You think he'll retire or not get resigned?
