Done Deal, and it's not that bad either.

I thought we could have matched that tbh. That was a very reasonable contract. We must have low balled him a bit
My sentiments exactly. Either we low-balled him by a lot, or he just got greedy. I actually think he got greedy, honestly. I think we offered him close to or Yanda money.

I wouldn't be upset if this was 8M a year. I would be OK with it. But 7.2 average? Come on, man.

Where did the Saints get all this money to keep or replace their three pieces?

Drew Brees - Tagged $15-16 Million
Marques Colston - Resigned $9 Million
Ben Grubbs - Signed $7 Million

However, they gave up their defense, so I guess the Saints are going to have to shoot it out to win games.

They got a QB, RB, WRs, TE, and a O-line.

However, their defense is definitely weakened, but they have the key pieces there to be somewhat complacent. I guess their draft is Defense, Defense, and Defense.

Haven't you been watching the news? They had a bounty program. Gosh. Lol.

Bounty Program or not, they still have Brees, Graham, Colston, Moore, and a O-line!

1st Round is probably gone, yet they still got pieces to win games.

I think their future is going to be tough because they're going to be limited in salary space with all these big contract.

We're in the same situation, but we haven't made moves yet.

I think he got a better offer to play for a better offense. In my opinion we would have had to over pay him to keep him. There are to many options out there to over pay him.

It couldn't of been all about the money since he is only making like 7.2 mil. Think we probably offered around the same but like 52strong said, he gets to be apart of a better offense.

You think he took 7.2M because the Ravens aren't as good of an offense? I'm not sure if you're implying that he took a discount to play with the Saints, but that's kind of how I am reading this. If that's the case, I'm sorry but that's one of the craziest things I have ever heard. I think Grubbs just saw more money with the Saints so he took it. I'm sure the fact that they had a prolific offense helped because he wants to win a Super Bowl, but 7.2 is an insult to the Ravens as I see it.

Come on, really. If we offered him Yanda money, which is about 6.5M average, then he went to play for the Saints for 700,000 more? You mean you can't give your home team a hometown discount of 700K? That's chump change to what he got.

This just irritates me all around. I wish I knew the contract we offered him, but I am irritated he went to another team for so little. Not that 7.2M is little, but I feel like our deal was probably close to that & he took the bigger contract with the Saints.

If that's the case, then he's insulting the Baltimore Ravens. If the Ravens & Saints offered him around the same money & he chose the Saints, that's kind of insulting your old team in my eyes.

Dang it...

I wonder how much Ozzie offered him. Probably same as Yanda's contract. However, I guess Grubbs want to play with the better offense and probably got tired of protecting a slow and immobile QB that has to hold onto the ball until the WRs are open, since our OC is an idiot.

Football fans are funny

Heap, Mason, Gregg, Carr, etc all had contracts, Ozzie broke the contracts and cut them and it was just business. Just the way it works

A football player goes out and finds the best deal for them and they get called greedy

Lol, what? I never called JJ greedy. I think he did the right thing, as did Redding.

It's just a little surprising when you have the Ravens saying they want to keep Grubbs, they are trying, they made a very reasonable offer & this is an offer both sides believe is very reasonable, then he leaves to go to another team. Now, we don't know the contents of the offer, so it's very difficult to assume. My problem is that if we offered him Yanda money (which seems to be the most likely case), then he leaves to go to New Orleans for almost the same amount (700K difference) then that's a little insulting.

I expected Grubbs to leave. I never thought he would stay, honestly. I wouldn't even be upset if he got 8M average. I guess what has me irritated is that it's very close to what I expect we offered him and he left for another team.

Should have franchised Grubbs and signed Ray Rice. Oh well, you move on. I think this almost locks up Peter Konz in the first round.

I have a feeling the Saints are going to start trading away players to make cap room. Maybe bargain time!

They just signed like $34 Million per year (Brees, Colston, Grubbs)

We know Vilma is gone.

Agreed. He will be working with a better line, better qb and a better offensive coordinator and gets to play in a dome.

He wants a ring and HE feels the best chance is with Saints. He is replaceable, hence why Mathis is in the castle right now.

No, as I said he got a better offer. as in more money. Grubbs made it clear that he was going to the highest bidder.

I dont think the Saints have much more room than we have to sign Grubbs after tagging Brees and giving a hefty contract to Colston. Hopefully, Grubbs will see the light and remain in Baltimore. New Orleans also has that bounty-gate debacle to worry about. It's not a place I would want to sign.
Wow! You were so wrong on this one. I was expecting Grubbs to sign with N.O. after it was first reported that he was interviewing there. Nicks left a void that they needed to fill. Now we have the same void in our line. Enter Mathis.

Agreed this is a business. They are entertainers. They are paid to do a job, and they are the best in the world at what they do and they deserve to be compensated accordingly!

well the only good thing about this is that ray rice will come much more cheaper. he got tagged this year and we will try to sign him. maybe we sign him after the next season. no way that he will produce numbers similar to hist first three years. we all could see how he played without grubbs.

sad day for the ravens. but a logical step for grubbs as we didn´t do anything to become a better offense over the last three years (boldin didn´t change our game. don´t let me even get started about his production as a raven)

Maybe the Saints have a better offense. They pass more and run less. I wouldn't call Flacc slow and immobile. Occasionally, he breaks lose for a run and can throw from outside the pocket. Grubbs just wanted to be closer to home and the money was slightly more. I totally agree with the part about our OC being an idiot. If it wasn't for Cameron, then we'd be bored to death on here every day.

How could we not have matched that? Arguably the best LG in the NFL and we lowball him. I hope we can get Mathis on the cheap

Sure it is a business, but I don't think Grubbs wanted to be a Raven. We said "goodbye" to Jason Brown and now we said "goodbye" to another interior lineman. All the more pressure to draft an interior offensive lineman in round one because I don't think a WR will be able to snap the ball.

7.2M a year is an awful lot for an above average OG. Let's hope we can ink Mathis to less. That's almost 1M more than Yanda is making even though Marshall is considerably better IMO.
