Kiper really is not a good evaluator of talent. Mayock is much better in that realm.
I disagree. I go with Kiper hand's down.

Reading Comprehension fail.

@Ravenswin I like Kiper too because he always sticks up for the Ravens and he gives the FO a lot of props (deservedly so), but I think he does more listening to what teams are thinking than actual evaluation.
o yeah, thanks for reading it right think before you write says yoda.

anyway..i really laugh when draft comes around and they're always joking at his love for crabcakes (specifically berman). he does represent baltimore well but as much as i like the guy, i just don't agree with his ideas and opinions very much. i'm still bashing him right now for saying konz is a great pick and how any center after konz stinks (b/c i'm a huge fan of david molk)

Mayock actually played in the league and is easily one of the best talent evaluators on television.
Mel is a joke Ravens allegiance aside. Compare both mock drafts when they are final and you will realize how much better a talent evaluator and draft "expert" Mayock is. I dont know why people here dislike Mayock so much, hes not a bad analyst and he really can spot talent.

So you'd overpay for a journeyman guard. Who are you? Dan Snyder?
HAHA He is easily the one of the top 3 guards in the league. Some say he is even better than Grubbs...

I personally was never too big on Mathis anyway so um not too upset. As said he's a journey man, coming off his first break out season and has usually not made it through entire seasons if I'm right. I have the same feeling with the line the line as I do with the wr problem, draft and let them grow together. No reason to over pay when this draft is full if interior line man. We need to stop getting stop gap players and build this line and wr core for the long term as we start to purge the older players such as McKinnie, Birk and Boldin. The offense needs some sort of continuity.

Not sure why you quoted me. I clearly wrote I like Mayock.

But you base who you feel is a better draft analyst on how accurate their mocks are? Wow.

Lmao.. That whole thing came off wrong. I agreed with you and meant to quote who you quoted. Yea its all about the mocks, but really no I judge by the persons success and Mayock is usually spot on about a persons success in the league. It seems like kiper will promote and praise anyone. Mayock does his research. Side note his mocks are usually pretty accurate.

Fair enough. I disagree it's all about the mocks, but that's a discussion for another thread. I agree that Mayock projects career arcs better.

We got used.
Check out the interest from Baltimore and go back to pump up your demands

Malcolm Floyd did it last year

Not a nice feeling to get used

Would rather draft then trial by fire. Ozzie for the most part is pretty damn good at finding o linemen. Cheaper, younger and going to get better. You've probably seen the best of Mathis.

Don't feel bad. Both of their teams didn't make the playoffs last year. We have a more complete team than both (even though that SD game was a nice wake up call). Seriously, I'm sure both were just after the money.

No he didn't. Jamison Hensley got played by everyone last year, everything he reported was just blatantly false.

Well he was right, Russell had the talent to be a great quarterback in this league. The problem is it seems like he was more focused on snacking at all of the buffet tables and spending his millions than training to be a football player. Again, why I don't want any part of players, no matter how talented they are, who obviously don't care enough to work hard.

Pretty upset with the way the O-Line is shaping up. Birks a great guy and a knowledgeable veteran, but without a strong guard he might get in trouble. I didn't expect Oz to pay 35m/5y for Grubbs, but not paying 25m/5y for Mathis kinda surprises me. Hometown discount?

No. We made Mathis an offer, the Eagles told him they'd match it. He mulled over it for a couple days and resigned with them.

And what about the years before? I find it funny when a players best year comes before they are a free agent when they have been in the league a decent amount of time.

Before you close this thread, I just want to quote ESPN's fairly negative article about our failure to sign Mathis. The wrote, "In terms of free agency, the Ravens could sign either a veteran cast-off like Eric Steinbach or Robert Gallery, or pursue someone younger like Chilo Rachal, who lost his starting job in San Francisco after a solid 2010 season. Its not like this is his first stint as a free agent. Tons of other factors can influence why he's just now blossoming. Its pointless to speculate now, but he was just playing at a very high level. We made him a fair offer for his situation.

Not sure how you see it, but I think that game more than anything was just Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd schooling our young corners and Norv Turner proving his experience trumped Pags' brilliant ideas. No shame in losing to a pro-bowl quarterback and his pro-bowl receiver when they clearly outplayed you the whole game.

You talking about Malcolm Floyd? Yeah let's see how did that work out? Chargers missed the playoffs and we were 1 game away from the Super Bowl. So Mathis decides to go back to a 8-8 team who missed the playoffs over us who were 1 game away from the Super Bowl... makes sense. /sarcasm.
Just wanted to respond to this: The Ravens got beat bad against the Chargers with Floyd going almost 100 yards and a TD against us. Had had over 850 yards in 2011 in only 12 games. That's just a few less than Boldin had and more than Torrey Smith. He had nearly 20 yards per reception. Evans, who we basically only got because we couldn't get Floyd, wound up failing to hold onto the impeccably thrown and easily catchable pass that would have sent the Ravens to the Super Bowl, and had less than 75 yards receiving on the season. I find it absolutely absurd to suggest that the Ravens weren't hurt by the way Malcolm Floyd jobbed us and wasted our time to get a better offer from the Chargers leaving us to sign Evans instead.
