Texans Release Eric Winston

136 posts in this topic

If I were the Ravens brass , I'd be looking at all OL possibilities out there. We need to address the OL early and often. We can't be sitting on our hands waiting for some team to become disappointed with a OL guy that comes in weighing at 400 lbs or is too old.

IMO the OL is not a place to mess around with faulty goods.

I don't care if the pieces don't fit, get quality pieces in and find a combo that works. I'm not saying Winston is the guy. I'm just saying we need to explore.

I saw that on PFT as well, we're one of the teams that may host Winston for a visit.

If we're interested in him I wonder what that does for Oher. Winston is 28, so in his prime now, and plays in the exact blocking scheme we are trying to implement in Baltimore.

I just saw the same report via WNST. This would be an OUTSTANDING pickup. The man's a freakin' beast.

Don't know but Oher CAN'T play LT so I don't really get it. Unless they plan to cut him but I don't think he takes up much money, does he?

Oher does not play like a 1st rd tackle.

I don't know if I like getting Winston. What's the point of having three RTs on the team? I understand depth, but Jesus. I don't see Oher as a LT, I'm not sure Reid has the footwork for it, and I'm pretty sure Winston would be on the right. So, I don't understand signing Winston unless it's for the vet minimum for 8 years & we can trade Oher for a 1st round pick.

I'm confused. I don't see how this is a possibility, especially when we need a G. Do we think Winston would be a better guard, or are we putting Oher at G?

Seems moving Oher to RG is the natural decision if they're getting Winston.

Also means we're moving Yanda to LG.

Is that a difficult transition? RG to LG?

In this case we would be moving Oher to guard I would assume. Or maybe they would toy with Oher at LT one last time? Either way Winston is a better RT than Oher is right now unfortunately, considering Oher was the #2 ranked RT his rookie year.

We don't have the cap.

I guess our front office disagrees...

I think it would be better for Oher to play LG if we had to choose, he has experience and muscle memory on the left side which would make the transition easier.

I agree, though I still seriously doubt we sign Winston. It just doesn't seem very likely to me, but what do I know. Lol.

I do like the idea of having Oher move to LG. He's played both tackle positions. Let's see if he can play center & guard. Hahaha. I don't think he's smart enough to play center, though. I really like Oher as a person, though. He seems like a pretty good guy. I think he would move to guard and be happy about it. That's what I like about the guy. He just keeps changing positions and he doesn't seem to care about it. He just goes out there and does what he needs to do. He's a team player, really. If he came cheap, I would re-sign him as a guard for us. I think it's the one position he could play very well. He would also give us amazing depth at the tackle positions.

I agree it seems unlikely, we would probably have to cut McKinnie and move Oher back to blindside but the increase in athleticism and mobility alone would improve our zone based ground game.

LOL No. Sorry, but I'm not gonna move my probowl RG to LG, just because Oher could play RG.

If Oher's playing guard, it will be LG. Smh.

Winston would be a great addition. Great pass blocker and already plays the zone running scheme. As for the cap space, we don't know his price so we really can't assume we can't afford him yet. Wouldn't mind seeing: Oher (LT) Hutchinson (LG) Philip Blake ( C ) Yanda (RG) Winston (RT).

Let's say we do sign Winston. He would be our RT, I agree. That would set the edge with Yanda & Winston. We could then pursue Marcus McNeil to be our LT, possibly trade Oher or move him to LG. We would obviously release McKinnie. With that, we re-sign Birk & we're solid for a while. The line would actually be young, and the only question mark would be LT, LG, & C. I think McNeil can turn it around & get back to his old form, so I see him as a long-term LT. I would keep Oher as LG because of his versatility to back up any line position except center.

That would, however, leave Reid as the odd man out. He would at least be quality depth. I think we would have a very solid line with that line-up.

I hope Ozzie is engaging in creative thinking, too.

The only flaw with this logic is that most of you already have conceded that Grubbs is gone. If Grubbs stays, then we wouldn't be hurting to have Oher back at LT.

Unless Oher is filling in for an injured player like McNeil, I don't want him playing LT ever again on this team.

Hopefully, Ozzie will sign someone before the end of the week. This will let us feel a little better if we lose several of our FAs.

Agreed, I am assuming that Grubbs will not be back. If he does come back, obviously my logic goes out the window. Hope I'm wrong and he does resign.

It would be nice for us fans, but I wouldn't expect it. Not saying you are, you know. Lol. Anyway, I'll amico mio, I would say that you should expect us to make a move no later than 2 weeks from now.

I really hope we sign McNeil. He's the one FA I really want, and I don't want many. I know he has injury concerns, but if he checks out with our medical staff then he is the guy to get. Signing Winston would also be nice, but I think Reid & Oher could both man the right. I won't be upset signing Winston, though.

I asked my magic 8-ball if Grubbs would be back. It said "Outlook not so good"

:(

I hope we do get him back. Having him & McNeil on the left with Winston & Yanda on the right would be a dream. One I don't see happening, honestly.

Has he ever played Left Tackle Professionally? If we were to sign Winston, would we be releasing Oher? Because if We move Oher to LT again and Cut Bryant we will have a 2010 season all over again.

Winston is a RT, we need a LT or LG.

I just flashed back to the movie "Blindside" where the ketchup bottle was attacking the hot sauce on the table. It scares me to move Oher back to LT.
