Texans have released one of the top RT in Eric Winston. The only downside would be the price. He is tough and the last time he missed a game was in 2006.

Do you guys think we should make a push for Winston?

Yes. Erik Windstun would be a great addition to his team. Then we could trade Oher. He also practices against the Texans so he would know where to attack from since Cam obviously doesn't.

If we had the cap, I'd jump on him. But do refer to the first part of my sentence. He'll likely find a hefty contract from a suitor with money to blow.

He is a RT, and right now I don't want to move Oher back to LT. Oher has already switch from LT to RT, back to RT, it would hurt him if we moved him back to LT. Can't Oher stay in one position two seasons in a row?

Why not move Oher to... another team for a draft pick

Very Odd. Why would Houston release one of their best o-lineman? Maybe they're trying to generate money for Mario.

I think hes worth the hefty pay check, but we don't have the money unfortunately.

I don't understand it neither. It certainly caught me by surprise. They could already lose one of the NFL's best Centers in Myers, so I thought they'd at least keep the continuity should he find another home.

He's the best right tackle in the AFC

Texans Oline is incredible and this a shocking move
Freeing up money for Super Mario?

Eric Winston is a class act and a great addition to any team
Unfortunately, don't think we have the cap room to pay him

Ozzie would need to work alot of magic to make this happen, but I dont see it happening. Our pressing needs at O-line are LT,LG asnd C.

I don't understand it either. Thing is there is no need for Houston to break the bank for Mario. Mario is much better as a 4-3 DE and will be a better fit for a 4-3 team rather be a 3-4 OLB. Houston can draft a player who is more fit for the 3-4 OLB to replace Mario and they can use the cap to re-sign Center Chris Myers, and even bring back Winston at a lower cost. I know Houston would love to keep him but I think they will make him a reasonable offer but some other team will offer more money for him. Only way he stays in Houston is if Mario takes a 'hometown discount' to stay in Houston.

Well now they need a RT along with a Center. Personally they should trade up for Peter Konz if they want to replace Chris Myers and either re-sign Winston at a lower price or find another veteran OT to fill that spot.

Freeing up money for Myers, not Mario...

This. They can probaly afford both Myers and Briesel now, so in reality it will probably help them keep their line intact.

If this was a Left Tackle we were talking about, that would be one thing. But we have Jah Reid at RT and Oher as well (although Oher will probably not be here next season)

What makes you think Oher won't be here next season? I find it highly unlikely the FO cuts him loose.

To echo what everyone else has said, I'd be all over getting him but we don't have the money. We also traded up to get Jah Reid, so he at least deserves his shot. I just hope Oher can return to his rookie season form. And we need to see what Ramon Harewood has to offer when his knees aren't knockin', ya dig.

Due 1.7 million, Can't play LT, although his penalties have lessened, he is very lack luster in run support and appears to be doing the bare minimum of his job. His rookie year was his best year, much more intense, now he is just there and with Jah Reid waiting in the wings, we have the option of going in another direction. If we do keep him in 2013, we probably won't pay to keep him in free agency unless he improves this season.

Definately something to look into.

I wonder what took him off texans roster spot? They arent really strapped. Something really suspicious.

Would it be unnatural for him to play LT, or is he too small?
[/quote]

Do you want another Oher switch-a-roo disaster?

I agree that his play has been less than stellar. He seems to have regressed instead of improve, but 1.7M isnt really that much to pay a starting OT. I guess I thought you meant he would be gone before this upcoming season which I cant see happening. If he doesnt make any improvements though I doubt he will be brought back after his contract is up, but I would be a little surprised if he is let go before that unless Jah Reid beats him out for a starting spot.

If Winston could play LT then Oher wouldnt be switching again, but in reality I think both are RTs only.

Lol, I'd rather we got rid of McKinnie and slot Winston in at LT.

I've just been roaming the fan forum of the texans, and besides of the surprise, most of them actually agrees with the cut. They are saying he was a liability in pass protection missing his assignments and had too many penalties. Looking purely at his stats you can definitely see his play is slipping. Giving up 2 false starts, 5 holdings and 7.5 sacks for a 5.5$ mio. a season seems a bit expensive. Especially since I think that Oher provides more or less the same but for half the price.
AND Winstons agent is Drew Rosenhaus. I would say no thank you and rather sign Demetrius Bell from the Buffalo Bills. That's just my two cents :)
