Ravens RFA-EFA Tenders

Actually, they can't anyway. To sign a RFA to an offer sheet, you must possess your original draft pick in that round or better.

Since the Rams traded down, they are prohibited from even signing Webb to an offer sheet (not that they would even consider it for the 6th pick either).

This rule keep teams from trading down and then getting away with giving up less to get an RFA.

Good catch. I wasn't even thinking that they acquired it in trade.

I have no idea. I am also confused. I wouldn't call him a bum, but I don't think he is worth that tender. I think the Ravens feel like we will lose McClain, and we will need some experience LB who could start next to Ray if necessary. We were probably worried someone would poach our LBs again. If you think about it, the Colts could have done it. Pagano might really like Ellerbe.

I think this is a depth decision, mainly for the reasons that you stated. With Ray up there in age, and McClain and Ayanbadejo being UFAs, there's a great lack of depth at the position.

Plus, since Ellerbe was undrafted, there's no draft pick compensation for him with the low tender, so that could have made him more attractive to other teams.

If McClain is re-signed and a ILB drafted early, there's always the possibility that they could pull the tender from Ellerbe, since it's not guaranteed.

All that is true in regards to the Rams, but what about the Pats? They can certainly afford to give up a 31st pick for Webb, and since they have a second 1st round pick why not? I just hope they are more concerned with a couple of WR and spend their picks that way.

No way the Rams give up the #6 pick for Webb.

Wow, just think of who would be available at #6 (Claiborne). As much as I like Webb, that would be an offer that the Ravens can't refuse. Still, we can dream all day, but at some point in time we all must wake up and smell the coffee.

Id without a doubt rather have Webb, who is proven and hitting his prime, than Claiborne who has never taken a snap in the NFL.

Claiborne is most likely going to the Bucs at 5. I'd still rather have a proven Webb over an unproven Claiborne though.

I'd look out for the Rams along with the Pats in the Webb sweepstakes.

I really think It's unlikely that Webb's a Raven next year.

The Pats could make the move. But the Rams won't. If anything, a CB needy team will make a move on Cary, since they could get a CB who was very good as a starter last year AND keep their first round pick.
