Why should we care? Drew's not our quarterback, although I understand what you're asking. I'm sure Drew's grinning quite happily right now too. Let's see how the Saints respond to this..

Not just them - Atlanta has Ryan's contract coming up, and he could argue his regular season numbers have jumped every year and get a huge deal. There are a bunch of young quarterbacks now that could start getting out of control figures. Quarterbacks in general I think, are about to start having their contract numbers go up like wildfire - 20 million might be lowballing a guy in say, 5 years. Drew Brees was specific, but I guess what I meant is that QB salaries were out of control as it is, and now Mark Sanchez, a guy who has never completed more than 56 percent of his passes in his career, a guy who has thrown only 4 more TDs than picks in his career, who has performed below league average in every one of his 3 seasons, just got paid like a multi-time probowler would have only 10 years ago. Either somebody's going to have to do something about salary caps, or in the future it wouldn't surprise me if top quarterbacks commanded half of their teams' cap room.

I mean come on at least Ben chooses girls that are legal age.

...and then rapes them.

Oh, cognitive dissonance...

I don't understand how you can pay a guy more money and free up cap space. Why did they make the cap work like that? It should be the team's overall pay for each player. Not just some number randomly associated with a contract.
its not a random number, your cap hit is your salary that year, and if its a 5 yr contract, a 5th of the signing bonus, or s 8yr contract, and 8th of the signing bonus etc etc, as well as any roster bonus.

Sanchez cap was something around million, but about 10 of it was salary, so they now re work the contract to give the salary as a signing bonus (no extra money to him or cost for the team) the only difference is for the cap, the 10 million is now split over 5 years of his contract, instead of just this year.. these are just numbers ive used to explain how it works, im not sure of the actual figures.

So in summary, its not a made up number, it can just be manipulated a bit

Theyre saying it was to lessen Sanchez's $14M cap hit this year. Well, guess what? There could/should have been a better way to do it. I am all for making cap moves/adjustments, but to extend Sanchez with $20M guaranteed is hilarious! Whats even more silly, is most Jets fans are just simply looking at the reduced cap number and calling their FO genius for doing so. Ha, wow!
It's like the Jets were playing Madden and had an epiphany like, "Wait...if we just simply add years to a contract in Franchise Mode, we free up cap space! So...why don't we do the same with Sanchez in real life??? BRILLIANT!!!"

I take it their front office has never heard of restructuring a contract. Or they just didn't feel like dealing with all the legalese that goes into a restructure. -_-

I want Flacco back and I was cool with his $11-15 mil per season price tag, but anything beyond $15 mil is pushing it. Thanks a lot, Jets...

Lipstick and powder... that sounds about right.

What's that saying, though...?

"You can put lipstick on a Rex Ryan, but..."

What kills me is, the Jets basically rewarded Sanchez with another $2.75 million for a 26-turnover season. Yes, they did it to save cap, but the right move would've been to part ways with him entirely via trade or release and start over.

Mark Sanchez isn't the answer for the money they're paying him. It's not like Jets fans are on-the-fence about him like some Ravens fans are with Flacco -- a large portion of the Jets fanbase wants Sanchez gone, and the local media there is echoing those sentiments.

Sanchez has shown steady improvement every year and last year was his best ever. At this rate, he will be average in about 4 years or so.

This is hilarious! Although, I think "average" is being a bit friendly to Marky Mark!

I agree, I'd even say Greg McElroy would be a better option than Sanchez. Hes done nothing to warrant a pay increase and the Jets FO has displayed their overall stupidity by paying him more money for nothing but a lackluster career so far
