Im more shocked about this then the Redskins Rams trade.

This will affect Flaccos deal though.

Both deals show how much a franchise QB is worth today, even though Sanchez isnt worth a third of that contract.

6th highest paid QB. Getting about 14 million a year. Crazy!!
Yeah, LaCanfora just reported on the value. Wow!!! Skins and Jets are awesome!

I hate the Jets. This will probably end up affecting Flacco's extension. Why in the world would they give some crappy QB an extension? I am sorry but Sanchez is not a good QB. He isn't even worthy of carrying Flacco's jock strap. I am not being a fanboy. Freaking Tim Tebow is a better QB than Mark Sanchez. Heck, Gabbert looked better than him!

I am so mad it is unreal

I like what Rotoworld is calling it "Jets give Sanchez $40.5 Million 'apology' extension. In fact that is what it is. They were going after Peyton and didn't sit there and think happens if they didn't get him, now they are stuck with Sanchez and doomed for years and I guarantee that contract extension is the nail in the coffin for Rex Ryan as Head Coach, hell I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the nail in the coffin for the Jets GM who will get fired as well as Rex.

From a Jets forum...

" Hell yeah. They probably freed up space with him too, I'm glad this organization is being smart about our QB"

Idiots...it still has $20M guaranteed and its still MARK SANCHEZ!! Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

LOL

the Jets are crazy for real man

Sanchez isnt any good imo....and like I said they will waste 5 years at minimum on him

why extend him now? makes no sense....an article I read said this makes him the 5th or 6th highest paid QB in the league

...Joe Flacco's agent is probably thrilled ....haha but the Jets? C'mon SON

I want Joe to get paid. But not a ridiculous amount. Like Grim said Sanchez can't hold Joe's jockstrap. Joe SHOULD be paid more than him but now I have to hope he won't be.

Of course they would say that, they are from New York after all. Lol they are too stupid acting like they are better than everyone to know better.

I hope the Ravens give Flacco some 8-yr deal now, because it will probably take a lot of money or a long time here to get his deal done. There are things I want to say but can't or I will get warned so I will leave it at that. This makes me highly incensed.

Only reason this is logic is Rex tries to mess up the Flacco contract talks so he might have a chance bringing him to NY when his contract here is over …

But after all there is no logic… it’s just stupid… and even more stupid when you look at all the young QBs in this and next year’s draft… I am sure Keenum, Moore and Weeden are better QBs than Sanchez…

Wow.

Talk about not being smart. Even if they didn't get Manning, they could've just sat and waited another season to see if Sanchez is their QB without tying up cap space in the future.

Dumb move.

If anything, this tells us Sanchez is a better talker/negotiator than he is a QB.

Theyre saying it was to lessen Sanchez's $14M cap hit this year. Well, guess what? There could/should have been a better way to do it. I am all for making cap moves/adjustments, but to extend Sanchez with $20M guaranteed is hilarious! Whats even more silly, is most Jets fans are just simply looking at the reduced cap number and calling their FO genius for doing so. Ha, wow!

If only this had happened AFTER a Joe extension. And I guess they're out of the running for Manning now.
They already were out of the Manning running. Manning had a list of three teams that he intends upon visiting, and from what I understand, the Jets weren't one of them. Then *boom* Sancheese gets an extension.

$14M/year? Holy crap. No wonder Flacco's agent wanted 15 a year. Let's see if they still want that lol.
I know. I think Ryan did it to spite us, that mashmallow man.

I would offer Flacco a contract like 12M/yr over 8yrs. Throw in some escalators if he makes the playoffs, wins playoff games, gets to the Super Bowl, wins the Super Bowl, etc. I really think Flacco is special & if we are in this like we say we are, then get the man locked up for a while. The way I see it is if we think he is what we tell the fans & the media he is, then you are committed to him. Give him a long contract and get it done. They say he will win multiple Super Bowls, then lock him up like he will. It is a risk, but then again it will also be a risk if we do a 5yr deal and he ends up winning 2 Super Bowls & we have to re-sign him for even more money.

And if Flacco isn't the player we think he is, then you do sign someone like Peyton & move on. I hope this doesn't sound like I am supporting the idea of signing Manning. I am only saying that I hear Ozzie & John say "Joe's the guy. He will be here long-term. He is the franchise QB." I am just sick of it, frankly. I love Flacco & think very highly of him, but we need to make a decision with him & do it. If that decision is that he really is The Guy, then you lock him up for a while so you don't have to worry about it for a while.

Joe and his agent are smiling ear to ear this morning... he's going to command $16-17M per year on average now. Thanks, Jets. SMH.

Does anyone else think that Flacco and Linta's next conversation will be a little like this?

I'm not sure whether or not the Jets had any credibility left after the Superbowl guarantees, but if they did it's gone now.

Lol, yeah, good point. I forgot New York's team is the Giants, and Jersey gets the leftover Jets.

I don't know why they just don't call them the New Jersey Jets, since that is pretty much their team anyway. I guess the name "New York" sounds better.

This is hilarious. This after they publicly state he played poorly in 2011, his teammates are on him, and they flirt with Manning.

Terrible signing and it will ultimately cost Rex Ryan his job. LOVE IT.

Forget Flacco's conversation, what is Drew Brees now going to be able to ask for?

Why should we care? Drew's not our quarterback, although I understand what you're asking. I'm sure Drew's grinning quite happily right now too. Let's see how the Saints respond to this..

They will most likely put a bounty on Rex Ryan.

I don't understand how you can pay a guy more money and free up cap space. Why did they make the cap work like that? It should be the team's overall pay for each player. Not just some number randomly associated with a contract.

Not sure I understand the logic here. The owner calls him out publicly, Rex basically does the same, and the team pursues a 35-year-old coming off a serious spinal surgery... the fans are already jumping off the Sanchez bandwagon like it was on fire... Trent Dilfer and others have already called out Sanchez for his poor work ethic...and then this.

How does throwing more money at this problem make any sense?

If you're basing it strictly on merit, and Sanchez is making about 15 mil a year... then Drew should be able to ask for 100 million a year.

Sanchez on extension: "New Deal shows I'm the leader of the Jets."

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/10/mark-sanchez-new-deal-shows-im-the-leader-of-the-jets/
“I’m going to be the starting quarterback for the next few years here, and that’s exciting,” Sanchez said, in comments distributed by the Jets’ P.R. staff. “It gives the team just a reminder that I’m the leader of this team, and I’m excited to get back, and I’m going to be working my tail off these next few months to become the best possible starting quarterback that this franchise can have.”
Leader of what? Eating hot dogs on the sideline? Leader of dating high school girls, I mean come on at least Ben chooses girls that are legal age.
