Jameel Mcclain To Test The Market

68 posts in this topic

The Ravens will let MLB Jameel Mcclain test the market to get an idea of what type of value he is worth.

Drafting Dont'a Hightower is starting to sound pretty good...

Figured this might happen. You knew Jameel would get attention from some desperate team with more cash to burn than we have. Hopefully he choses to stay here rather than get paid, but this is the NFL.

Right, but I'm kind of hoping he might decide winning a ring is more important than getting paid right now, and that if he takes less to stay in Baltimore he has a better shot of winning a ring than, say, going to Philadelphia or another ILB-needy team.

Take Bart Scott - you can't tell me that he thought at the time he was going to a New York Jets team that just went 9-7, had their quarterback leave, and had to compete in the same division as a Patriots team coming off a season where they went 11-5 without Tom Brady, and a Dolphins team that had just won the division in 2008, and have a BETTER shot of winning a Superbowl than the 2009 Ravens, even if Rex Ryan had just become the head coach. I feel a lot of the reason he left was because he knew he would make much more money with the Jets and he'd be "The Man" in New York as opposed to being "the guy who plays next to Ray Lewis" in Baltimore.

I believe Bart chose money and star power over staying with an elite team with a great chance to compete for the Lombardi Trophy. I don't want Jameel to do the same. Some team like Indy with Chuck now there could use him, and with Manning gone they probably could pay more than we could. Philly had a terrible run D and needs ILBs, Detroit might take him if they part with Tulloch, Dallas has needs, etc. I understand if Jameel goes, but I don't WANT him to.

A guy coming off of the rookie contract he had is going after the money right now. He'll focus on the ring later in his career.

Pagano maybe?
Or possibly go to his hometown Eagles who are weak at linebacker

He'll get interest. Not huge offers now but enough interest that I don't think he'll be here next year

you make a great point here!

but to me...IF....my company was going to let me "test" my market value, i would definitely do it! why? because what some one "under values" someone else "values." that's just the way life is! for the record, i am with you....i hope he stays but i will understand he if leaves.

Jonathan Vilma is going to get cut by the saints most likely. Aside from all the "bounty gate" hooplah surrounding him, he could come for cheap. He could provide some solid depth. However he could face suspensions for the scandal, but its still unknown. I wouldnt mind having him on our team.

Good... let Kuechly drop, I hope the Eagles or Colts sign a LB, not necessarily McClain. I hope we get to keep him here, but someone will over pay for him.

I meant paid more than we can offer him. Since we aren't tendering him I believe he will go to another team who can pay him more than we can. Who knows, maybe it will cause Kuechly to drop, in that case it would be worth it, but I like Jameel and would rather have him here - I feel he could be our starting ILB for years if he stays.

He's not a good fit in the 3-4.

He's unrestricted... and with that being said I still hope he comes back.

I might get ripped for this, but I think McClain is more important than JJ. JJ "brings it" and is a great Baltimore personality/locker room guy. But I think McClain really started to play like a Raven last season too. He really played solid, seperating himself from Ellerbe and outperforming JJ at times also.

McClain isn't exactly irreplaceable or an important cog in our defense. This is actually smart on our part -- once McClain sees how dry the market is for guys like him, he'll be much more inclined to take a cap friendly offer to return to us.

Neither of which is really saying much, to be honest...

I think this is our year to get younger at linebacker. I think Ronnell has to be our guy, his versatillity will be key. He can play inside outside pass rusher run stuffer you name it. He is going to be an impact player by day one. Its not like we need him as a starter but he can come off the bench and give our LB corps depth that we obviously need.

Right, but I mean he really deserved the starting spot next to Ray. He didn't just "have iit." At the beginning of 2010, he got the job and a lot of people thought it should have been Ellerbe instead. Now that move looks more than justified.

I'm curious as to see what his market looks like other than us, Philly, Indy and the Jets.

If we lose McClain we will need him as a starter... even if we resign ellerbee.

He still hits the wrong holes on a regular basis, the game hasn't really slowed down for him and he doesn't have dominant physical tools to make up for it. Average player.

I'd like to see him come back, but wouldn't necessarily miss him if he left.

The position needs to upgraded regardless.

it would suck for McClain to leave. When Ray Lewis went down McClain showed he can be the leader of the defense and he made the right calls as well when he saw certain things from other team offense. I think McClain is very important linebacker and it would be good for him to come back
