it seems like our teaming is being taken piece by piece. i hope we are able to have a strong draft this season because we will need it.

From Aaron Wilson: With 42 players currently under contract, including the Matt Birk deal, Ravens are $4.664 million under cap Includes Ray Rice $7.742 mil tag

Not looking like we'll be signing anyone for the most part. Draft will be the key as always.

Cap Update per B-more Ravor

We have 42 players under contract, Rice is franchised, there are 3 RFAs tendered and 6 ERFAs tendered.

So, as of now, we have 52 players signed or tendered and are $4.664M under for those players (the $1.5M carry over is already included in that figure).

However, because only the top 51 players count, $390K is added back into that Cap space, creating an accurate Cap number of $5.054M.

I'm not an expert on the cap, so perhaps you know, have an idea, or someone else who does know could answer this question: when it comes to our rookies, how will they affect our cap space? I know only the top 51 count, but after that I get a little confused.

Thanks.

They'll need to be signed to contracts just like anybody else. Luckily, there is now a rookie wage scale so the outrageious contracts of the past shouldn't come up but first and second rounders do still get a good deal. What we do in the draft will dictate roster moves afterward. There may may a few more cuts depending on what we get.

most of the rookies contracts count towards the cap, maybe just the 7th round, 6th round guys wouldnt be count because they wouldnt be in the top 51. They come in then the lowest contracted guys would drop out, replced by the larger contracted rookies

Everyone should read this article

http://www.csnbaltimore.com/football-baltimore-ravens/ravens-talk/Why-are-Ravens-so-quiet?blockID=674814&feedID=6703

It explains everything perfectly as to why the Ravens aren't/can't make any moves in free agency

its just the reality, its what i been trying to tell people but they dont understand for whatever reason

when u have a lot of good players u want to keep, you sign the ones u can and they take up a large part of the cap..now Flacco, Rice, Webb we have to have money ready for them....its tough

The Ravens could have 40 million in salary cap like the Bills and the Bucs but that means we'd have a lower talent level like those teams do too

UPDATED Cap status:
PRESENT SALARY CAP SPACE: The Ravens have an adjusted Salary Cap of $128.128M. This includes the $120.6M league-wide Salary Cap, the 2011 carryover of $5.831M, the league-wide Cap adjustment of $1.643M for the Skins/Cowboys penalty, the $1.5M borrowed from future Caps and a debit of $1.446M for the 2011 incentives carryover.
Including the 3 RFAs and 6 ERFAs that have been tendered, Ray Rice’s franchise tag and the 42 players that are currently under contract, the team has a total Cap commitment of $123.463M. This leaves the team at $4.664M under the Salary Cap.
This is the number that has been reported recently as the team’s Cap space.
However, at this time of the year, only the top 51 “salaries” (and all bonus prorations and dead money) count against the Salary Cap. Because of this, the lowest salaried player ($390K) will be removed from the team’s Cap, leaving them with an actual Cap number of $5.054M.
Just curious...does that number include Carr's actual/potential savings? You know, the money we save before/after June 1st?

Thanks!
We only saved 600k or something. We took the full dead cap this year so to not carry dead cap next year. Right now I think we have no dead cap next year.

stole from Ravor again

"Because of the Rule of 51, each of these 4 signings will cause the removal of another player from the top 51 salaries.

So, there will essentially be a credit of $1.56M (4 x $390K) against what the 4 new guys will count."

So we are at $5.054 + $1.56 = $6.614 less the cap hit for the year of the 4 signings today.

Lol, nice.

I hope the contracts for Graham & that other guy were cheap. I would hate for it to cost us a supplementary draft pick. Anyone know if they were free agents or cuts? I assume they were both free agents. I haven't been home so I haven't had the chance to check yet.

FA's and given they are 1 and 2 year deals respectively, I think we're okay. Ozzie wouldnt have spent much on these guys, although I am anxious to see Graham get some work in on both STs and defense. 3 INTs and a FF with the limited defensive snaps he took last year is impressive!
