PFT posted the official cap numbers for every team. They have us as $14 million below the cap.

They say and I quote "The numbers is based on the 2012 unadjusted cap of $120.6 million, any 2011 carryover, any adjustments, and franchise tenders"

I'll assume these numbers are accurate which would mean that the number that has been going around is false and we have 14 million minus restricted tenders.

Then you would assume incorrectly.

That number does include the carryover from last year, but only includes the 41 players that are currently under contract (and Rice's franchise tender). It does not include the tenders that will need to be made to their RFAs and ERFAs. Once those are made, that number will drop to around $6M under.

After looking at both your links, both back up what I put. They used the same numbers... As I said minus any tenders. So you are arguing against me with the same information. I'll just take a league source as more reliable then a number cruncher who is doing this on his own time.
you do that then but don't come complaining to the board when we lose a lot of our own free agents and don't bring in any big names with our 14 million cap space

OK, well, I wasn't arguing with you, just saying that the PFT number doesn't include certain things.

FWIW, the number from PFT actually backs up the numbers from the article (to the penny), so "the number cruncher" is correct and the numbers in the article are more accurate since it includes the information that PFT didn't - ie the tenders for the RFAs and ERFAs.

I won't be. I don't think the ravens should resign Grubbs, JJ or Redding. We have capable backs up for the D-Line. JJ isn't worth the money that he will probably be offered by Jets/Colts and Grubbs is an average lineman who is going to request big bucks.

Just posting the updated articles from B-more ravour on our salary cap.

http://www.ravens24x7.com/columns/The-Money-Clip-Baltimore-Ravens-Salary-Cap-Analysis/SALARY-CAP-UPDATE-Ravens-estimated-to-be-5.945M-under-cap

This one is an article explaining restructures and our players specifically

Why do people think signing Flacco will give us more cap room?
because his cap number is huge this year. That salary will likely form part of his signing bonus in the new deal which is divided evenly over the length of the deal, and his salary will be reduced down to the vet minimum , reducing his cap number. Restructing is explained in the article i posted above.

We are all assuming he would be restructed and extended, rather than keeping his final year as status quo and just extending him

He is making ~7 mil this year apparently. If we give him a new deal, he will make much more than that.

you dont understand.. that seven million will be given to him as part of his signing bonus ( he still gets the seven million) and his salary will be reduced to around $1mil which is vet min. Say we sign him to a 6 year extension ie 7 total years. For cap purposes, that seven million is split evenly over the life of the contract, ie 7 / 7 = 1 million per year. You then add that to his salary which is now reduced to 1 million, and his new cap figure is $2mil, with a saving of $5million.

Obviously these numbers arent correct and he would get more than a 7 milion signing bonus, but thats just laid out in an easy way to explain it.. in reality we would save $2mil at most probably, but thats a lot of money saved

I keep hearing, Offensive, Offensive and Offense, but as far as I'm concerned, this team was built around Defense and its the Defense that enables this team to have a chance to go to postseason - not the offense. The best the offense can do is score more than 14 points and keep from turning the ball over.

I see big losses in linebacker to free agency and players getting older without quality backups, and missing a good pass rusher at end. Next season bodes for more injuries (age) and lack of speed and depth. We already don't have any pass rush without Suggs, and the two guys they picked up, don't look promising. There are going to be some young teams coming up that are going to be a lot tougher to beat, especially Cincinnati and Houston, teams who have playoff experience and are young and hungry. I don't think the Ravens are going to be as good as 2011, and they need to try to hold on to Johnson, even if its means putting Flacco off for another year and look to make another cut. Johnson is 30, so he's got a least 3 or 4 more good seasons. They could probably pickup another linebacker at McClain's skill level with a number 2 and still go for the best defensive player with their first pick, then look for a lineman. After the 2012 season, its likely that there will have to be changes at starting middle linebacker and safety and that would give the Ravens more room to pickup an elite linebacker, while signing flacco.

All teams just got 1.6 million in extra cap space besides Cowboys and Redskins, who get taken behind the shed and beaten.

Schefter tweeting that the Cowboys and Redskins are getting $ removed and that other teams are gaining space, except for Saints and Raiders.

$10M and $36M from the Cowboys and Skins, respectively. WOW.

Saints and Raiders get no change. Everyone else gets $1.6M additional.

From Aaron Wilson's Twitter, Ravens would be $16 million under(prior to exclusive rights and restricted free agent tenders) with the added $1.6
According to ESPN, teams are gaining $1.6 million with penalties against Redskins, Cowboys. So, Ravens would be roughly $16 million under
stop syaing that lol. Thats before we sign our ERFA and RFA, after all that we will have about $8mil, it was 5.7 with a $120 cap, then the cap was set at $120.6, so that brings it to around 6.3, now we get an extra 1.6, so we are sitting about $8mil

I didn't say it, blame Aaron Wilson who said that lol. I didn't see the part where he put in that it's before the signings of ERFAs and RFA so I went back and edited it to add that in.

Good question. I have to assume the Saints don't get any due to the whole bounty thing and it's part of their punishment, as for the Raiders well I don't know.
