If The Pats Go For Webb

well the dominos are falling for DB's and it started with Cortland Finnegan signing with the Rams. Just puts the spotlight on Webb a little brighter for FA Teams to look at him

In a passing league with one legit pass rusher and the schedule next year. I would have to disagree.

Well said. This is the answer why its such a bad idea.

Same could be said for Lardarius. He started 4 games in 09, 0 in 10, and 15 last year. Webb has started 19 games, Cary 17. I think the deciding factors, if a guy takes one, will be 1) will you give up a first round pick for Webb, or a second for Williams (i.e., the Bucs aren't giving up a top 10 first round pick for Webb, but they might give up a top 10 second round pick for Williams), and 2) as dumb as it sounds, Williams has 3 inches on Webb, and some team may covet a taller corner.

Oooh good math Realli. LOL. Good number though seriously I wouldn't have guessed they played close to the same amount of games.

I will only be ok with webb leaving if ozzie uses the first rd pick to steal mike wallace

If we can't afford Webb, then how the heck are we supposed to pay for Wallace?

I guess my point was both had great seasons last year, but neither corner has proven anything beyond one season - I think they're both ascending, but remember Devin McCourty made the Pro Bowl last year and he was horrible this year. Even Aso, as great as he has been, had a down season. So I think even though these guys looked great this year, a team will stop and have to think "is this guy a one-year wonder", and I don't know if many teams would risk giving up a first round pick for a guy who might have just had one great season, especially a team like the Pats who just experienced a major letdown with McCourty.

Not sure if this was posted yet but here's a very good article on how valuable Webb is
https://www.profootb...orth-the-price/

That brings us to this season where he went from being someone to keep an eye on, to one of the top performing CBs in the entire league. A quick glance at our positional rankings shows that Webb was second only to Darrelle Revis (+23.1) in coverage, but that only tells part of the story. When you delve a little deeper into his season, it becomes clear just how good he was. He played in 18 games for the Ravens, seeing a total of 638 snaps in coverage, and didn’t allow a single touchdown reception in that time. Of the 102 times he was targeted by opposing QBs, Webb got his hands on 20, with eight interceptions and 12 passes broken up throughout the regular season and two playoff games.
What impresses me the most about Webb is his ability to cover in the slot as well as on the outside. In 231 snaps in coverage against the slot, he was targeted just 30 times by opposing QBs, giving up 18 receptions for 203 yards. Fans of our Signature Stats will already have seen how highly Webb ranks in our Slot Performance section. He came in second among all CBs with a reception allowed just once in every 12.8 plays in coverage in the slot.
we have 6 mil cap space, we have to sign draft picks, we need to add a few depth players, tell me where we have the money to sign webb longterm without getting RR of the tag
Arnie I don't come up here enough so I didn't see your question. But didn't we just offer Mathis 5 years 25 mil? It is all in how you structure a deal. Do you think Webb would sign a similiar deal if we offered it to him now? I'm sure he would. Next year that kid's price tag is going to rise. I say try to sign him now. I'm not saying it's easy and concern is there but if it is a priority, we could make it happen now. He is going to count 2 mil against the cap anyway. Structure it so he only counts 3 mil or so this year. Also, if we get Ray Rice done, he won't count 7 mil against the cap like he does now. That gives us a little more breathing room. I am sure the numbers crunchers for the Ravens can make it happen if it's a priority.

im pretty sure after brady restructuring they have around 20 mil in cap space. if they want to get into a bidding war over webb im pretty sure we wont win unless webb wants to stay here.

very few ppl are immuned to reject big chunk of cash throwing at them.....I hope Webb is one of the very few ppl..

I'm sure Ozzie will make Webb to be a very rich CB in the league but he can't make Webb to be highest paid CB in the league....

Lets hope the Pats stay away from our spiderman and Ozzie will finish dealing with Webb's contract soon....

PS: The key to finish up the deal quickly is guaranteed money, just like Ngata's deal.....

i agree. the pats are definitely getting ready for something though; they restructured brady so they have an extra 7 mil now. they didnt do that for show.

i alwas thought that players don´t think money first. but at the end of the day it´s all business and we all know that they follow the $$$.

if the pats really like webb they gonna get him. he is in a group with revis, samuel, woodson and a few others. a true number one corner. he was a third round pick and developed into a star with us. the best thing with him is that he plays very big in the important games. he is a playmaker like ed reed and would be a huge loss..

we can only hope that he likes it that much to play with such many future HOFers that he wants to stay in baltimore...

The only option is for the Pats to sign him to a below-value contract that we can't match because it would be front loaded. But if we restructure Ngata, Suggs, Yanda etc to reduce their cap number so we can take on the front loaded contract. They would do this because the cap hit later from those players would be compensated by a lower future cap hit from Webbs front loaded contract. We're not in a position like the Steelers where there is no place for them to increase their cap, we just don't mortgage our future and signing Webb long term would not be mortgaging the future.

They could offer Webb a 20million a year contract we couldn't match but that's not going to happen.

I still don't think many teams are interested, especially the Pats. Remember they just drafted a corner and he went to the probowl in 2010. He had a bad 2011, but my guess is they'd rather rehabilitate McCourty than go after a RFA.
