If The Pats Go For Webb

From todays LFW, if the pats offered up a 1st and a sheet we couldn't match, doesn't Webb still have a choice to turn them down?

Hopefully he would.

I really feel like we lose the off season if we lose Webb. I want the dynamic duo of Jimmy and Webb to last a long, long time and it is much harder to find an elite CB than it is a Guard or RB. Just saying.

And when Webb gets older or we have a logjam at Corner, he could go back to his natural position of Free safety. Sign the man!

I love Webb, but I'd take a chance on a secondary of Cary Williams, Jimmy Smith, Gorrer and Brown and have Two first rounders.

How do we know that Webb was a one year wonder?

How do we know that Cary's season wasn't because of Pagano's schemes? Webb's been the most versatile corner we've ever had in Baltimore. That includes CMac, Rolle, and Starks. No corner can play man, zone, blitz, punt return or tackle all in one package like Webb has done. Others were better in certain aspects, but not the whole versatile thing.

If Webb accepts the Patriots offer, I'll be frankly pissed and disgusted. He knows the Ravens are going to sign him long term, we just have a crapload of guys right now that are FAs or big time signs next year like Flacco and Rice.

In a passing league with one legit pass rusher and the schedule next year. I would have to disagree.

Webb said he wanted to be a Raven for life. I wouldn't even take a 1st round pick for him. In my opinion it won't be long until he cements himself as a top 5 cb. There's a really good chance there isn't a db as good as Webb in this whole draft. This is all speculation and hype, Webb won't be going anywhere, that's a guarantee.

If Peyton Manning goes to Miami (which seems likely), the Patriots will NEED a shutdown CB. So, I can see that they would go after Webb since his stock is up and coming rather than already high. However, Webb did say he wants to be a Raven for life and I'm sure Ozzie can recognize that he should be the top priority as we'll now likely have to deal with Big Ben, Dalton, and RG3 a total of 6 times/ yr for the next several years.

Webb is a must...no doubt about that. Also, in terms of the league becoming more passing, I'd like us to draft Mark Barron from the AL as the next man up for Ed Reed. Barron is a highly intelligent player, was key to positioning that vaunted AL D, and is a BALL HAWK. Let's get it done!

Agreed, hopefully oz has already worked out a plan in case it happens. Just have a few players ready to restucture their contracts to open up the cap space if needed. Hell, I'd make cuts to keep Webb here.

Kinda sucks that they got rid of the 1st + 3rd tender on a player. I'd do that in a heartbeat for Webb. However, I really think it's unlikely the Patriots go for Webb given that they have an even bigger hole at safety. I think they take Barron with one of their first round picks. It's never been Bellichick's style to swipe RFAs, I think he values his draft picks as much as Ozzie Newsome does the Ravens draft picks, and lets face it, Bellichick had a corner who was a pro-bowler last year and then fell apart this year. 1) he is probably more interested in rehabilitating McCourty than a free agent corner, and 2) he may be leery of taking Webb and running the risk that Webb falls apart next season like McCourty.

Why would he? It's not like NE is a crappy team.

And actually, unless he 'accepts' their offer, there's nothing for the Ravens to match. NE has to sign Webb to an offer sheet before the whole 'match thing' comes into play.

Webb to me is more important than Rice and Grubbs. If there was one person I really hoped we locked up long term this off season its him. He has the hands of receiver and his coverage skills are great. Rice is nice but I honestly wouldn't be mad if we franchised him twice and let him ride.

If there's any concern about Webb leaving, I say get a deal done with him and hold off on Flacco until next off-season if we have to. But I hope he doesn't want to leave.

Im worried a team will do this, i think someone will thats the whole reason they lowered what a tender can be

I hope the Ravens are talking to his agent trying to work something out

losing Webb would really suck

Teams just need to keep their grubby little hands off our players and learn how to draft on their own.

I can't see the FO letting Webb walk. I would be very disappointed if that happened and have to (gulp) start doubting how capable our front office really is.

For the love of god we are not moving our BEST corner to safety when he is vastly undersized.

I hope he goes to the pats and trolls them, and then gets cut and signs back here. Thanks for the first NE.

But seriously............. no

ohh, I'll go nuts if new england even tries something like this; webb is a reasonable person and respect our organisation for being there for him when he needed most, so can't see us not reaching a deal with him before anything else happens

This is what needs to happen. I think Joe needs to respect this and play his contract out like everyone else has

I doubt they're working on an extension for him at the moment. If someone else offers him a contract I'm sure we'll match it.

Not if it is front-loaded. We don't have the cap room to match and the Patriots have more room then us.

If someone signs Webb and we can't match, I will be very disappointed, but not devastated. We could pick up Upshaw and Hightower (or Barron) in Round 1 and Chase Minnifield in Round 2, along with Blake at center in Round 3. We'd have the best defense in the NFL for the next 5 year.

A year ago, many were ready to run Webb out of town. Now he's a cornerstone.

Flacco is the top priority with Rice a close second.

Webb will probably get a long-term deal with us.

Realistically, Webb's a Raven long-term, but I just gave my opinion that if the Pats offered for Webb, I'd gladly take the first rounder.
