Where Do The Jets Get All Their Money?!

15 posts in this topic

I looked at NFL.com today, and the main page was discussing who is in the running to sign Peyton, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the Jets going after him!

Where do they get all their cap space?!?!?! They have a lot of highly overpaid players on their squad as it is. And as the Colts found out the hard way, in order to have Peyton on your team, the rest of your squad has be making rookie minimums because Peyton sucks up like 3/4 of your cap room each year.

I don't think the Jets can afford Peyton, and even if they can what would that say for Sanchez? His career would be over and he'd spend the rest of it bouncing from team to team holding the clip board.

Well that is what Sanchez should be doing anyway

What, you mean not doing GQ shoots?

They're really not in any better cap situation than we are. They could make him fit if they wanted to, but it comes at the expense of upgrading other parts of their team and restructuring contracts. The Jets are always a media hog, any big story someone can make up about them will get made up. And since Manning is the biggest story right now and the perception is that he automatically makes them Superbowl favorites, this is bound to happen.

The past couple of years the Jets have been extremely short sided in the way they've pursued FA's and operate their team. They think they're right on the precipice and are willing to mortgage their future for a chance to win now. Anybody remember how they were scrambling to throw enough money together to make a bid for Nnamdi?

They're just bone-headed and wreck their cap with high profile signings in hopes of instant results.

Imagination. They talk a big game to FAs but they're not going to sign Manning... just like Asomugha, last year. And... if they do sign him, I'll be laughing.

Agreed & unlike the ravens, the jets will continue to have cap issues that aren't easily fixed.

When it comes to working the salary cap, the Jets FO is one of the best in the business. They're very good at structuring contracts to get "hit" at the right time.

They get all the money from the savings on food after Rex got his stomach reduced and him cutting back on his wifes pantyhose budget. I have no idea. The world will never know. To have so much money spent on players and such a mediocre team is really surprising to me though.
