I don't care if all 32 teams did it, time to end it!

And that's the key that a lot of people and players are missing. It doesn't matter how rampant or common this is -- there's no room for it in professional sports. These players already make enough money. Incentives are fine, but do it within certain parameters and within the rules of the system. Don't incentivize the harming of other players. Don't put a price tag on threatening another man's quality of life after football.

If it's rampant throughout football, say, how do you take it out of the game? People are always going to find some way around the specifics of the rules. Do you make all incentives illegal? Because that changes a lot of contracts. Do you make certain types of contact more punishable? Because that changes the game. In the end, "bounties", whether real or not are always going to exist because injuring a great player on the other team always improves your chances of winning. The league might just recognize it as something they can't control, but once publicly assumed must be dealt with (as in this case). But whatever happens out of this doesn't assure the elimination of all incentives to injure players, because that is always goung to exist. In the end, you can do what I do, and just find a team to root for that seems pretty respectable even though they're not your hometown heroes. That's part of the reason why I'm a Ravens fan.

I was at this game so I didnt know this happened, plus the first time I saw it I didnt think much of it..

I remember seeing that and actually rewatching the game when I went home to see what Joe was all hot and bothered about, I saw a lot of what I would call 'dirty' but most of the times the refs disagree with me lol That was worse then a Steeler game.

If I recall Suggs made a joke about a bounty on Ward and got called on in by Goodell, if that was not enough to deter Williams I don't know what is.

A safe prediction: Saints will be disciplined far worse than the Patriots were for Spygate.

If they lose Brees because of all of this, this franchise will be doomed.

Nope.

"I'm not pissed. It's football. I don't think anything less of those guys. Said or unsaid, guys do it anyway. If they can drill you and get you out, they will." - Brett Favre on the Saints bounties.

Players doing it ok I agree but when coaches are telling players to do it, I think it crosses a line.

According to Jay Glazer a penalty may be handed down in a week or two.
Sources now tell me Saints penalty will be handed down prior to NFL Owners mtg that starts last wk of March and possibly within next wk or 2
There are all other sorts of legal issues involved....would the bounties put the Saints in violation of the salary cap. Are there tax evasion issues. Sorry Blood, I disagree. This is a big deal that could have legal ramifications outside the league itself.

I'm going to say a year suspension for Williams. The Saints will lose their 2013 1st round pick, their 2012 2nd & 3rd round picks & monetary penalties. I see the high profile players getting a game or two suspension. I see Vilma with a 2 game suspension.

That's my guess. I only say that because Goodell is really coming down on safety and I think he will make examples of people.

I don't see the Redskins or Titans being penalized. I also think Payton will be fine as will Fisher. I could see them getting penalized, though.

Glen Younis from 105.7 was actually saying that this whole thing isn't wrong, "since that's what players are paid millions of dollars to do anyway". I have always felt like this guy was an idiot, but he has really dropped of the charts of human intelligence. Players are not paid to purposely injure other players. The guy is a moron.

Right. One of the articles I read earlier this morning said that Goodell will be watched on this, especially by guys like James Harrison. Any sort of light punishment isn't going to go over well.

Goodell will drop the hammer on this, look what he did with spygate and nobodys safety was in jeopardy for that.

Oh yeah and since he is so hell bent on making player safety # 1 priority and taking away what football actually means, he'll come down so hard on the Saints that people will be saying that it was too harsh.

There has to be some pretty serious consequences for this....harsh or not.

I'd agree that goodell needs to stop over protecting the qbs and stop messing with the game.

Yeah, I can see Harrison having fits if the league goes lightly on the Saints. Which I really wouldn't blame him.
