Saints are an absolute mess right now.

In the span of 2009-2011 they were paying players to try to injure their opponents... Smh.

I lose a lot of respect for Sean Payton as of now. Always thought of him as a good guy, and great coach.

Investigation is still ongoing.

Right now it looks baaaaad.

I knew there was always some dirt underneath the squeaky-clean image. So stupid. Apparently the league came to them with this, warned them to stop, and it still went on?

Personally, I still remember them playing dirty against us last year - Will Smith putting a knee into Flacco late and getting away with it. Wonder if that was a part of it?

Throw the book at them. There's no place for that in any sport.

*Also, this is why Rex Ryan bugged me even when he was still in Baltimore. Suggs (hopefully) joking that we had a bounty on Hines Ward. It's wrong and it can come back to hurt a franchise badly.

You know who is really going to be angry when they hear this? The Minnesota Vikings & their fans. Remember, this occurred when the Saints won the Super Bowl--by beating a red-hot Vikings team with Favre at the helm. The Saints won that game especially when Favre became injured. I promise you someone will correlate that injury to them losing and this bounty revelation.

It will not look good, and it will carry over to the Rams.

Is it a coincidence that Bobby McCray is the same player that is involved in both the injuries they are investing? Brett Favre and Kurt Warner.

Also remember back to AP this season saying he felt that the saints went hard at his injured ankle, he felt it was over the top.

Makes you wonder. If they find players guilty, coaches guilty they have to be banned from the NFL for life

That is really interested. I forgot all about AP & the ankle. It just keeps getting worse and worse. You're right that some players could be done period. The team itself will be penalized. From what I read, they may lose some draft picks as well.

Things do not llok good in the Bayou.

Never really cared much for that franchise. Once Drew Brees retires in about 5 years or so, they'll be the laughing stock of the NFL like the Colts were this past season. I knew when we played them 2010-2011, they didn't know how to play defense.

Ahhh New Orleans Saints vs. Brett Favre. No one feels sorry for the New Orleans Saints after Hurricane Katrina anymore! Super Bowl 44 ended it! Who dis?

I would argue that, while Spygate was pretty bad, this could actually be worse because Saints defenders were trying to injure opposing players, effectively shortening said players' careers and threatening their livelihoods.

Affecting the outcome of a game is one thing. Affecting a person's quality of life is another thing entirely.

This. I was shocked at how dirty they played us. My brother and I left that game stunned because the Saints had such a pristine reputation. Now we know what all the cheap shots and late hits were about. I guess they don't show the extra-curricular stuff on TV and you only see it in person.

No wonder why Gregg Williams left for the Rams, he thought he could escape this before his name was thrown in it but looks like he is caught in the middle.

Yeah, this is exactly what I am thinking. I think the Saints will be heavily penalized for this. And the players & coaches involved? There will be some suspensions & bans, possibly. If the Pats lost a 1st round pick because of Spygate, what does NO lose? And on top of that, how will it affect other teams where they acquired players & coaches from the Saints? Fujita is one FA who left NO that I can think of off the top of my head.

Here's what I think, a $500,000 fine, a 2-3 Year Suspension for Gregg Williams and since the Saints traded their first round pick to New England, that pick becomes void just like the Patriots pick did for Spygate and the Saints also lose their first round pick in 2013 as well.

Not to advocate this kinda behavior, but this has been around for years and years. Many teams do it. It's become part of the game, classy or not. We've done it, they did it, I'm sure the Steelers and Jets have as well.

I'm not condoning it my any means, I'm just stating that it's been around almost as long as football has.

While many teams and players may do this, not everyone does -- and I think that's what's being lost in translation when players are wondering why fans are upset about this.

They don't have to play this way. They really shouldn't play this way. It's unprofessional, dangerous, and completely unnecessary. It also taints many fans' perception of players playing for love of the sport.

I think that's why this public backlash is healthy and why the Saints need to take the full brunt of the consequences here, so that an example is set and this type of behavior is phased out of the game.

I think it will be more serious than that. By taking away their 1st round pick this year it hurts the Pats not them. I see them taking their 2nd round or possibly even 3rd, but they will almost definitely lose their 1st round pick next year.

About Williams, I see him getting a serious suspension. It's dating back to the Redskins. They will burn him hard. He could be finished in the NFL. I only say that because of how long this has been.

I think this is going to really hurt this team. I also thought about something else: how will this affect Brees' contract? Will Brees even want to play there anymore? Imagine if Brees hit the market because of this. It would be insane. The Saints would be sent to the Dark Ages.

Brees is already (understandably) offended by their GM's assessment that Brees is a "very good" QB but "not a great one." The GM said that just because he doesn't want to pay Brees the contract that his market value dictates.

One of the worst parts about this whole scandal? Brees' good name is being dragged into it by some people, even though it appears that the bounty was strictly limited to the defensive side of the ball. Brees, by all appearances, is a good person. Shame to see this happen.

Thats what I'm thinking. It could actually kind of help Ravens a little. If Saints franchise Brees (which looks like they will).
Then they most likely wont be able to resign Carl Nicks. It could also affect how teams who were interested in going after Grubbs could change their approach and try to push for Nicks. It could also be bad for us if Nicks gets paid bank before Grubbs does.

I forgot all about what he said about Brees being "very good". The more I keep thinking about it, the more I see Brees walking away from them. How bad would that be to lose Drew Brees? Imagine the QB free agent market, too. Brees & Manning both potentially elsewhere. If Colston & Nicks walk away as well, you have a really messed up Saints team.

Hahah right! And people say he doesn't show emotion like most QBs show....
I think we could make out most of what he was saying lol.
& If that was Brady then they both would have probably been fined for htting like that.
Real talk lol.

There is a lot that could go into this. This could hurt or help the Ravens. The best situation for us is if the NFL takes away their ability to use the tag. It would cause Brees to hit the open market. This would allow him to get a long-term contract elsewhere. His contract would help shape Flacco's. The same can be said for Manning. Their contracts will influence Flacco's. If they don't get some crazy deal, it will help us. If they get a great deal, it could hurt us.

I could see it helping us with Grubbs' contract, too.

I'm guessing they forgot to put a bounty on Marshawn Lynch, who in turn was playing for a bounty of skittles.

Greg Williams and Jim Schwartz come from the Jeff Fisher coaching tree and Fisher played for Buddy Ryan with the Bears and the Ryan was famous for the Bounty Bowl against the Cowboys. The link is there..

Also only $1000/1500 a hit? How is that worth the risk of a fine which would be 10x that amount?

God I hope Brees walks. I don't even like the Saints, but it would be awesome for him to sign elsewhere. He's my favorite QB ever. He doesn't need to be in this mess
