Ravens Releasing Chris Carr

75 posts in this topic

Jason La Canfora reports on Twitter that the Ravens plan to release CB Chris Carr. (LINK)

Best of luck to Chris Carr. He was a class act here in Baltimore. I'm sure he'll catch on with a team quickly enough; his nickelback skills are still solid. He'll likely end up in Indianapolis with Chuck Pagano, the guy who pushed for him to come to the Ravens.

Class act, I respect him a lot, but I am glad that he's gone. Too expensive, and he never seemed to fit as a "Ravens defender" to me. Hope he catches on elsewhere though. Indy would be a good fit.

Dang, breaking news from Franny!

The writing was on the wall, the dude hardly played last season even though he signed a long-term deal and he has virtually no trade value. Hopefully there won't be much dead money.

Good luck Carr! Had a good run. I'm confident he'll get a job somewhere else (Indy). Next up, Foxworth.

if the ravens release chris carr they may bring him back but just at a cheaper contract

Let's hope so, but how many times does this happen?

If someone as reliable as Carr at nickelback can get released, then yes, a former starter like Foxworth is presumably next. If not, I expect to see him take a significant pay cut or restructure his contract.

Rarely do former starters get released and re-signed for less pay. Granted, Carr was a rotational starter, but he's still a young guy and he's seen significant action. He's not a superstar but he's also not a scrub. I don't see the Ravens being able to secure Carr's services if Chuck Pagano or Rex Ryan come calling.

He asked for starter money and a prominent role last offseason and couldn't get on the field . They have cheaper, younger, better players at the position so the writing was on the wall.
It still bugs me that we kept him over Wilson

I was expecting us to trade Carr, was thinking that we could have found teams to give us at least a 7th. Ohh well such is life... definitely Fox is next. Probably he's been given the chance to retire before being cut, would be more honourable this way... can't really play with a shattered foot.

Great player. Im not sure releasing him before pulling a draft from him was a great idea. But...business is business. Got to release cap on way or another.

Oh no. Not Chris Carr! Oh well. He will be joined by Foxworth.

Jason La Canfora reports that Foxworth is expected to take a physical soon. He speculates that Foxworth could be brought back at a lower price if he passes, but could be cut if he fails or doesn't want to restructure. I also noticed on LaCanfora's Twitter that he said Foxworth could be back at a lower price. Interesting. I don't see why we'd do that.

Wow, that is crazy. I would have never expected us to keep Foxworth over Carr in that situation. If the Ravens keep Foxworth, I will believe he has some dirty pictures of Harbaugh in his closet or something.

I hope he fails it. I don't like Foxworth and never have. He showed promise but I am bitter about these past 2 years, I won't lie.

I wouldnt bring back Crapworth even if he pay us to be on our 53men roster.

His is the worst trade bust in Ravens history.

I really like Chris Carr, class act on and off the field. Unfortunately his services are no longer required, but I will miss the guy. Best of luck to him on his next step in the NFL.

it saves us 600K unless we postpone the savings until June 1st, then it would be a $2.5mil saving total, but then carry $1.9 mil dead cap in 2013.

We should have just kept him around if that's the case. Not much savings there.

well 2.5 is a good bit, thats more than a quater of RR franchise tag, im sure they will put it off until after 1 just, just means you have to carry the difference (1.9mil) as dead cap next year, but they will expect the cap to go up to nulify that

Yeah, I slipped out of the mobile skin just I could neg this <deleted> post. First off, Foxworth wasn't a trade, we signed him as a free agent. Secondly, even though we overpaid for him he played well until his injury. Its a shame that so many fans treat him with this kind of disrespect. He sacrificed a lot to help the Lockout end. Not many people ever give credit for that around here.

He's a great guy and was integral to us even having football this last season but keeping him around is bad business. I just don't see the benefits of holding on to him, even if it is at a discounted price...

no disrespect or anything, I do agree with the first part of your post, but let's be honest - we paid fox to play not for his contributions on the cba... and we didn't get much back for what we paid
