He should have had Carries last yr. I dont want to see us bring in another Old Running back when we have two perfect running 2nd yr player now , although you might as well call them Rookies because they didnt get any Carries which really dumbfounds me.

Allen had three carries for 8 yards in Week 3 against St.Louis.

As I mentioned before, I'm a big fan of Allen and look forward to seeing what the kid can do. Also looking forward to seeing what berry does this preseason. Still waiting for the Mcclain supporters to jump on here and say... But what if rice goes down?

I would also like to see after a full offseason what he can do in a pro game situation. We need a RR backup and Allen comes cheap on the rookie contract. Saves us cap money and also saves us the hassle of choosing someone else in free agency.

I'd rather sign McClain due to his familiarity with the offense plus his ability to ram it in at the goalline, which we had some difficulty doing this past season

I've watched Anthony since college, and have seen lots of vid on him and i dont know if it's me but it doesn't look like too many players are willing enough to tackle him head to head. The man refuses to go down, keeps churning his legs and has a high motor. I dont believe we got him in the draft and where we did. Anthony should have a nice NFL career with Baltimore..

Im excited to see the competition throughout the pre season between Allen, Damien Berry(who showed some spark last preseason) and whoever else we add to the training camp roster. This is where you really find the diamond in the rough. Like how last year qe found Laquan Williams who lit it up in pre season last year. So im excited to see who becomes Rice's backup. I see alot of potential in Ant Allen but you never know who might sneak up on em!

Honestly, im not impressed. Im excited about seeing a new back in our system and what he has to offer, but im not willing to elevate him over anyone else yet. Those highlights didnt look that impressive to me, as someone said, lack of jukes is going to be huge because he wont be able to run over everyone in the nfl and if he doesnt hold on to the ball better, there could be a lot of protection issues

Allen couldn't get more carries last season due to injury. He didn't get healthy until the end of the season when the Ravens were wrapped up in a playoff run. Can't just give unproven rookies a look-see at that point.

As for the hair, he cut it during the season.

On the subject of his lack of juke moves, I see that as more of an issue for Madden 13' opposed to an actual issue for the Ravens. Because Allen basically ran from the Fullback position in college, his vision and ability to read/set up his block in our zone scheme.

We saw Ray struggle with this at times last season and hopefully a full offseason will help all our backs with that.

At nearly 230lbs Allen won't be and shouldn't be concerned with juking defenders. You look at a guy like Foster, he didn't juke and run around the Ravens in the playoffs, he set up his blocks and ran hard behind his pads.

That's what will be important for Allen.

In the preseason, albeit limited, Allen showed the agility and explosiveness to be able to make enough defenders miss.

you hit on a good point. what he did in college should actually make him better in his current position. I think he mentioned it himself how the game really "slowed down" since he can survey the feild instead of only seeing ground and the qb/line bums he also has like 3 extra yards to work with.

Allen is very raw given the offense / position he experienced at GT, which is why he wasn't drafted higher. I agree that he is a diamond in the rough though based on sheer ability. We will have to wait and see what that translates into, however for a guy that is 230 lbs he has incredible quickness to go along with his bruising / bouncing running style. His 40 time may just be average, but check out his other combine results compared to that of other notable RB currently in the league. Impressive!

What if he performs better than Rice??? like Ricky was in the playoffs. Im sure Rice would still get the obligatory carries over the guy with the hotter hand

I can tell you that AA will take this break and enjoy life and start to get himself ready like all great players to show case what he has to offer. It is going to be a great spring and watch out! A HERO in the making.

Next year Ray Rice will be the starter and we should rotate Leron McClain and Anthony Allen a bit as Rice's backups. McClain can be a FB and RB, and Allen is just too good to sit on the bench all the time!

I like Le'Ron cause he has already been in baltimore and ran over 900 yards the year we moved him to RB, however i see him being a big expense in the fact that he would have to shed some weight and move his focus to running instead of blocking. In that sense i see Allen being a smart decision, hes already signed so we might as well just save the money and go with him, then wait until preseason to see if he can prove himself as a third down back

Allen's size and running style are more along the lines of what I want the team to do, and I'd like to see what he has to offer. Still, for the sake of having a backup plan, I'd like to sign a veteran power runner just to be sure we have that necessary production from another back. You can't run just one back in this league, and if Allen didn't perform it's going to be a long season of no gains from Rice.

Le'ron McClain burned his bridges in Baltimore, and I don't expect him back. Look to Ozzie to sign another Ricky Williams type guy to hold us over this season, perhaps Tomlinson or Ronnie Brown.

Because people have to draw battle lines. Either you're a hater or a fan-boy. There's no happy medium.
