Surprise Surprise, Jets Interested In JJ ?

54 posts in this topic

I like JJ alot, yet another underrated player who doesn't get any attention until his contract expires. But i think some of you need to look past the loyalty part and realize he is past his prime and past his 30s. Although he was great at sealing the edge he was never a good pass rusher. And whatever pass rushing ability he had took a hit the last 2 seasons. One thing we have been looking to improve was LOLB, and now everyone wants to jump on his bandwagon when his contract is up. We let Ryan take JJ on the later part of his career like he did Bart Scott or we can try and improve at LOLB.

I think a guy who doesn't get enough opportunities and playing time is Paul Kruger. If you havent seen this guy in college, he had the ability to step back and cover even though he was a DE. This was amazing and showed the guy was versatile. His rookie season we saw him make a similar play in coverage with a pick against the steelers. His ability to pass rush is even better. All this guy did was make plays when he subbed in last season, 6 sacks as a backup speaks for itself.

I thought Antwan Barnes was a very good pass rusher too, but he didn't get his chances because we had our iron man JJ playing ahead. Barnes is now the leader sacker for the Chargers with 11. I realize people are unsure about Krugers ability to play LB but i actually think he is the perfect mix between the abilities of a LB like JJ and Barnes because he can pass rush and cover. C'mon guys, its time to give some of our other guys some opportunities and i think we might even unearth a pro bowler.

I agree we need a new OLB. JJ doesn't provide the pass rush we need. I would rather move him to ILB if McClain were to walk. He would also provide insurance if Kruger, Kindle, or our draft pick doesn't perform like we need.

Yes, because his horrendous coverage ability and athletic deficiencies wouldn't be exposed at ILB...

Let JJ go o the Jets. His best years are over and he's slow as crap.

Oh how many sacks did he have this past year?

I really like JJ as a player and a person, but I hope his time here is up unless he comes at an incredibly good price. I just can't justify paying him millions when we need a true pass rusher opposite Suggs. I think Kruger has earned his chance to start. If not, I'd prefer us to go the rookie route. Our LB corps are pretty old on the starting front. It's time to get younger in the next couple of years (except Suggs who will stay), and it has to start with JJ unfortunately.

bold prediction - rex picks up chris carr, d fox, and lee evans cuz he can't resist anyone who has ever been in a ravens uniform. good luck with that.

LOL. I would laugh so hard if Rex picks up Haruki, Zbikowski, JJ, Redding, Carr, Fox, Evans, Lawrence (I'm sure he's gone), Reed (David, not Ed...though maybe Rex will see Reed has been released and get excited and sign him without looking), McClain, BA. He would be well on his way to making his Ravens team. We all know Grubbs will probably go to Washington, because they target almost all our O-linemen. So could Carr & Foxworth, because they love our CBs.

I would rather re-sign some of those guys, though. I really want Haruki, JJ, Grubbs, & Rice back. The rest could walk as far as I am concerned. Yes, I am including McClain & Redding. I love Redding. I loved him ever since he picked the ball off of the ground & walked into the endzone against Pittsburgh in the playoffs. I don't want to lose him, but I think we have to in order for McPhee to get his shot. Redding is a solid player I would want back here.

As for Zbikowski, BA, McClain, Carr, Foxworth, Evans, Lawrence, Reed I believe we will be fine without them. I believe we should make an effort to re-sign Redding, JJ, Grubbs, & Rice. I'm sure I am forgetting someone, but yeah. Oh well.

If JJ stays here, and takes less then what the Jets would offer him. He would become probably one of my favorite players. I want to hear him say publicly "I dont want to get involved with that mess."

I could see him staying here, but no chance hes actually going to diss the Jets. He has said on multiple occasions how much he loves Rex.

Do people really want JJ back? What does he bring this team besides setting the edge for stuffing the run? What does he do for the this team during passing teams?

Let him go. He is old and slow and if we want to get most out of Suggs and his contract, we need a Von Miller/Lamaar Woodley type player who can keep an offense on their toes so Suggs isn't double teamed. We need to unleash the hounds, not the hound. Anything Kindle can do at this point is bonus, we can't rely on him so we will have to turn to the draft to get our guy.

JJ is a great guy, but I don't care, I want us to win and he doesn't contribute enough to have a new contract with us.

Let's hope we can get him back. He's regularly referred to as one of the most underrated players around the league, and it couldn't be more true.
This reminds me of when we lost Bart Scott. He wasn't meant to be a star in New York, the way Rex wanted him to be. But, next to Ray Lewis with a role carved out for him, he was a huge part of this defense that I don't think we've ever really recovered from losing. What linebacker to you regularly see crashing through the line to throw off a running play nowadays? It used to be Scott. Now, the running backs run into the line and fall forward instead of backward.
We can't lose another unselfish, role-defined player. It'll hurt us more than it helps whoever signs him.

His career will fall of the face of the earth if he becomes a Jet. Look how great of shape that organization is in. I mean a huge contract extension for Sanchez? What are they thinking.

Good for him that he found a contract, I am very glad he is out of Baltimore though. We need to incorporate youth and this will force Ozzie to get some OLB early. JJ was a great run stuffer, but he hurt Suggs value by not being a serious threat in the pass rush causing double Teams for Sizzle.

While I don't know if Kruger can be that threat, but it looks like for the time being he is the starter. Good luck to him.
