[News] Baltimore Ravens Rumor Mill

769 posts in this topic

"While he's not a free agent, talks continue between quarterback Joe Flacco and the Ravens, and they're "moving in the right direction." Jeff Zrebiec reports he's told, "It was a good meeting. Pat Moriarty is a pro. We're going to plow through this process and hopefully come to a good conclusion."

Thank God! Finally some important, meaningful news!(sarcasm)

It would have been nice if we didn't let Mathis leave the building without a contract but hopefully he will mull it over and decide that this is where he and his family should be. Once we get him (knock on wood), we'll be one step closer to having our O-line rebuilt.

UMMM... yea Noone is saying we have to sign big contracts for big players like the skins or the other [profanity deleted]ty teams of the league have done... but we are letting go of a lot of key players and aren't even offering the right deals to fill the gaps. We still don't have Flacco signed, nor webb. We are being cheap as hell this year. I dont get it, did the Ravens run out of money cuz I mean theres definitely cap room now with all the players we've let slip away.

I hope Birk isn't getting too much money... I doubt his knees will hold up for a whole season. And let's face it, he wasn't exactly great in the playoffs...

"Contract for Matt Birk to return to Ravens expected to come in at around $3 million." -- Aaron Wilson

I would expect it is a one-year deal, as well. I don't think we want to extend him beyond that, so we need to bring in the "heir apparent" now.

I don't get it. Wilfork schooled him in the Playoffs. His age showed.
We need to get younger at the Center position.

Yes, we do. So, if we aren't going to get younger via FA, then it is the draft. Will Konz be a focal point for us? Perhaps, but there is no guarantee he'll still be there at #29. I think that would be a solid pick, but we'll see how the draft breaks and whether he's there or if there is someone else we think is of higher value.

Not a big fan of Birk coming back, and I tell ya the main reason I think our line struggled had a lot to do with him and the reason we struggled so much with Grubbs being out is because he knows he has to carry him somewhat.... I would have prefered to see Jason Brown back and we get younger at that position and not be forced to use the draft to address the center position....

off the subject a bit here, but with what Mario Williams just got from Buffalo, I think we got extremely lucky to retain Ngata for what we did. I know they play different positions, but both are D-lineman. I'll take Ngata over any D-lineman in the league. Thanks FO!

I do not mind Birk coming back as long as the Ravens know they must draft a Center. It appears that we will not be getting another via FA.

as a backup yes but as a starter i can not trust birk to get the push up front needed to get the short yardage. he got manhandled in the playoffs. rice could not get it going and we could not convert on short yardage.

as i said in an earlier post it would not surprise me if we have a down year due to the fact we have a tough schedule and younger players being phased in but it will be worth it 2 years down the road

losing zibs and nakamura is no big loss imo. they are a dime a dozen type players

Just add it to our list of needs. We have zero depth at the saftey position.
