BTW, anyone knows if the rookie salaries - the money our 2012 draft picks will get - count towards the cap space? Because right now we may only have roughly enough money for them, if they do...

Yes ... they do count toward the cap.

That is not an immediate concern, because the effect of those contracts will not hit until we sign them (which is in the summer), but will need to be considered in the team's overall budget plan. There will likely be additional moves we can make to clear a little more space and with the rookie scale, makes that process a little easier.

We have an RG3 right here in T2... Taylord Taylor... He is every bit the athlete that RG3 is and if you compare Tyrods college #s with RG3's ... Tyrod did the same but aganst better competition.

I'm glad the Ravens didn't go there. Is he really worth all that money? Not in my mind he isn't. His rookie season and this past season he had double digit sacks. The other 5 seasons he averaged 2.7 sacks/year. That's just not good enough to sign him to that kind of deal. The Bills seem to really like throwing money at defensive lineman in hopes of getting to Brady.

Mohamed Sanu ran a 4.41 and 4.44 at Rutgers pro day today. PLEASE Baltimore if a WR is what the Ravens ultimately take, he's your guy!!

What are the Jets doing??? I give Rex credit... he and the Jets are not afraid to go out and get guys but this is not Madden 2013... you cant just plug guys in and hope it works... personalities and philosophies need to be considered. The Jets do not seem to get that and may be this years version of the 2011/12 Eagles!

Good. I don't want us to sign any FA except our own. We already have a team built and don't need to go out spending money to fill any "holes" because we don't have many if any at all. McClain, Webb, Williams, and Ellerbe are the guys we should sign RIGHT NOW.

if they stopped spending money bringing these guys in and paying for their hotel and dinner , maybe we would have some money left
Haha, I don't think that counts towards the cap space - but I like it

Our Front office is now paying for it. Sometimes It's not always good to wait for Bargins in FA! This is probably our worst beginning of a off season we've had in recent years. ''Ozzie We Trust'' though, right fans? (Sarcasm)

The only thing you can do is wait when your damn near broke.

Are the Ravens becoming the Orioles of the NFL??

Yes: the team representing Baltimore.

Ah I see. I have faith in Ozzie and all, but I'm not liking how free agency is starting out for us.. Hopefully we pick out some good people in the draft, and maybe we can find a diamond in the rough in free agency..?
That's the was free agency usually starts for the Ravens - well, maybe not with s many starters leaving the first few days... but as for the incoming UFA-contingent... just like most of the teams with strong rosters and thus small free cap space, we're usually quite quiet the first weeks, when the prices always go sky high. After the draft, in August - that's when the Ravens FA-period really is ;)

Be sure, all the holes are gonna be dealt with by the time the pre-season games come.

Did anyone watch RG3 at Baylor's pro-day. Boy this kid is fluid. this kid looks as athletic as any QB i've ever seen, and his 40 times have been better than WR's at combines. MARYLAND: you'll have competition now with the Skins.

I'm a rather reserved and calm person, I seldom get excited about people just because they do what they do well - but when I saw Griffin play - and what and how he did mentally (like the interviews), I said to myself there goes the true #1 of this year's draft class. The guy is simply awesome. I hope we'll play v the Redskins and the Broncos as early as possible, when RGIII and Manning won't develop the chemistry too well yet...

Thx for the info.

One more reason to trade out of the first round then: cap space considerations :D

Well, even then we would need a legitimate successor for Grubbs - but otherwise I agree. If we can somehow retain all of those players, that's not gonna be a bad FA period after all...

The biggest question is McClain. We're lucky Denver has probably moved on - but there may be other teams with much more cap space left than us (which is basically about 28-29 of the 32 teams).

BIO...IDK - RG3 is a freakish athlete but that doesnt always translate on the field. The Radiers have one of those freak athletes right now(T.Pryor) who is just hoping to make the team. For a QB ... I feel like it is more about the system / scheme and team that make all the differnce. (i.e. Steve Young went to a bad Tampa team and was nearly ran out of the league... he goes to the 49ers and becomes a Hall of Fame QB)... system / team and Scheme made all the difference. I kinda feel like it is almost a curse for a QB to be taken #1 overall... it may be better to be the 3rd or 4th QB taken... bc then you are going to a better opportunity with time to grow...not thrown to the wolves bc expecations are so high and destroying another carreer

@Bio: Denver has definitely moved on. They signed 2 MLB's and passed on McClain. Priority #1 right now has to be a tie between retaining Webb and signing Rice to a long term deal. After that, our huge hole at LG (we could draft Konz and put Birk at center, but we have needed someone like Mark Barron for years now). Then, either McClain or making a new deal with Flacco. Flacco might have to wait, though. I'm absolutely positive Ozzie and the Ravens front office have a plan, and we'll be one of the best in the league next year.

Week #1 will probably be a division game again (my guess is either in Cincinatti or in Pittsburgh) but after that... I'm all for it :)

Hi,
sure, anything can happen... I don't think too many pundits wuld have gessed Ryan Leaf r JaMarcus Russel to be such huge and immediate busts... RGIII can end up as the next one for all we know now... I just don't think he will :) My prime reason is that degree of calm self-confidence I saw of him during those public interviews and video segments. Not that usual "I'll show them I'm confident" stuff, but just like I was watching a veteran QB.

That of course, is no guarantee to anything - let's just categorize it as a gut feeling on my part :)

BIO...I hear you... its easy to like the kid... I think that Jamarcus was another product of a bad system... Leaf well he was just good marketing that showed why salesmen... I mean Agents can ruin this game!!!
I like what RG3 has to offer but if he goes to the SKINS i think that they can ruin even someone that talented! Remember ELI refusing to go there... Elway choosing to play baseball to get a better situation...

Hi,
I agree with you on basically everything here.

My only note is about Konz: I'm not sure we should use our #1 pick on someone who couldn't stay healthy for a whole season even in his college career... The NFL is much tougher. Remember David Reed: the guy said he din't have one single injury throughout his whole college career. Not one...

Well, TBH, I would hate to see the guy wasted... But we'll see. Now that they have targets for him... He might even start producing... Cam Newton became the rookie QB of a rather week Panthers, but that didn't keep him from having a heck of a rookie year - which wasn't particularly successful thanx to said team... but Newton was great, IMHO...

BTW, I'm curious what we'll see of his brother Cecil throughout the camps and maybe even some pre-season games (provided we don't pick a C this draft)...

CAM... had a great WR in Steve Smith...a good 2nd option in Brandon Lafell -Two good RB's in Deangelo and Stewart (plus mike goodson)... they had some weapons -injuries and Olin play hurt the Panthers... they did make some nice addtions and Cam seems to have some weapons... so overall not a horrible place to be?
The Skins... OLine issues... Helu looks good at RB and they seem to have made an effort inthe WR department... looks okay for RG3 on the surgface but Shanahan with QB's ...IDK scheme???
